DIY Tricks to Replicate Spa Treatments By Josie Feria, Director of Spa Operations at Lapis Spa at the Fontainebleau

Summer fun, unfortunately, can give your skin and hair a beating. Below are some DIY tips to whip your skin, hair and hands back in shape. For a clean, shiny and touchable face •Prepare pot of boiling water with several bags of chamomile tea, allowing tea to steep. •Place face over steam from pot and cover head with towel to trap steam. •Place cucumbers or well-squeezed, icy chamomile tea bags on eyes to reduce puffiness. •Dab off excess moisture. Apply scrub cream in gentle circular and upward motion to face, neck and chest. Place emphasis on beard and neck to help lift ingrown facial hair. •Rinse thoroughly with warm, moist washcloth. Apply witch hazel, rose, or lavender water with spray or cotton pad. •Apply moisture lotion/cream in upward massage strokes placing slight pressure on temples and under forehead bridge line to release tension. For softer and shinier hair with improved scalp circulation •Mix lemon juice and warm green tea. Apply mixture to scalp with brush or applicator. Pour remaining amount throughout hair. •Allow mixture to remain on scalp for a few minutes to cleanse scalp and hair follicles. •Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Apply a combination of two parts fresh avocado and two parts yogurt. Massage into hair in circular motion to relax the scalp and stimulate hair growth. •Gently massage temples and base of scalp line. Place plastic shower cap on hair and wrap in warm towel for 10 minutes or until towel cools off. •Rinse thoroughly. For clean, soft and luxurious hands •Buff and moisturize rough skin using a scrub cream and oil/body lotion. •Mix four parts kosher/sea salt with one part warm grape seed, canola, or olive oil. Mix into a paste. •Massage into hands in upward strokes and circular motion. •Remove with warm/wet towel. Follow by pushing back cuticles and filing rough nail edges. Apply body/hand lotion. •Wrap hands in warm cotton gloves or place in plastic bags and wrap with warm towels. azhealthandliving.com | September 2013
