MAINTAINING THE EIXAMPLE Rather than fill the whole site with program, activity spaces have been moved to the perimeter to remove dead walls, retain the traditions of the courtyard and create a more interactive play between indoor and outdoor rooms.

INDOOR URBAN FARM Part of the project utilizes an existing abandoned building for an indoor urban agricultural farm. The roof collects rainwater and slowly releases the water into the three-storeyed green wall. It acts as a teaching tool for the girls and a means of income to keep the facility going.

PROJECT GUIDELINES 55 Precipice shifts the dynamic of a recieving home from a social burden to an asset. This facility will allow the means for the girls to learn not only how to make a living but how to make a life.

The proposed building typology allows for more variation, vibrancy and begins to break down the scale.

PIECEMEAL DEVELOPMENT This project addresses London’s mounting affordable housing crisis and has designed an urban typology that employs a kit of parts that slows the development process and allow for more hands with lesser means to be involved.

This strategy will celebrate the people of the Hill District using relationship-based tactics that will be served by the physical realm rather than the other way around- ensuring equitable growth that entrenches residents in the Hill’s future.

STUDENT SUBMISSION Responsibilities Graphic Design Fabrication Programs Adobe Suite I have been commissioned to design a Condominium building that is for and inspired by Japanese Haute Couture designer, Issey Miyake. My inspiration comes from his more recent line, Pleats Please, where one small gesture [pleating] becomes something exponentially more as it is replicated. The goal is for the parts that make up the whole to be able to resort back to its natural state through the process of manipulation. His work depicts women being transformed by the clothing they wear and, in turn, an otherwise flat and lifeless object becomes animated.

CHEFCHAOUEN, MOROCCO Chefchaouen’s urban and architectural form is the direct result of its position near the coast which created a natural barrier that has left their culture largely untouched. They use raised entrances, receding exterior doors and inner courtyards in response to water run-off and high temperatures.
KIGALI, RWANDA Rwanda is in a temperate climate with warm summers and cool winters. Traditional construction of dwellings often use compacted mud brick that surrounds a wooden frame. The resulting envelope is both sturdy and insulated.

NEW DELHI, INDIA Although the area lacks up to date infrastructure such as sanitation, building codes and height limits, what results is a cohesive character as defined by the people who inhabit the area. Crevices become particular to this neighborhood giving this urban village an identity
KINGSTOWN, ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES Development in Kingstown is textbook tropical architecture. Narrow streets, arcades and overhangs are employed to withstand high velocity rainstorms and shade from hot temperatures.
