FROM THE EVP’S DESK Cheers To Your Wealth

All wealthy and successful entrepreneurs share something in common: they have written, laser-focused goals and business plans. You can have all the ambition and best intentions in the world, but without a clear and written plan on how to get from Point A to your Point B you will miss your destination. There’s a saying you may have heard before, “A goal without a detailed plan is just a wish”. If the goal in your head is that you will take 25 listings or 50 loan applications or sell 100 title policies, etcetera in 2013, congratulations for giving it some thought and making that wish. Converting those wishes to goals is the next step. When you take those goals out of your head and commit them to paper, something magical happens. It solidifies your commitment to achieving the goals and it automatically starts you on the goal planning process. As with most things in life the first step oftentimes is the hardest, especially if it’s embarking on something we’ve never done before (like writing a proper business plan). If I’m driving somewhere I’ve never been before. I need something to tell me how to get there. This is the same with goal setting. Having a destination of Point B is useless unless you have a written plan on how to reach it. Consider your business plan as your own GPS system – Goals, Plans and Systems! Don’t know how to start or complete your business plan? Keep reading to find out how the AAR is going to assist you: To help you create your business plan for 2013 the AAR is proud to offer a Business Planning seminar on Thursday, December 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.in the AAR building. The AAR is proud to invest in our members’ success so the cost of the seminar is FREE. The seminar is strictly limited to only 40 students so please visit www. TheAAR.com and go to “Upcoming Events” to register. To summarize, I’d like to share an interesting story I read in a book aptly titled “Goals” written by Brian Tracey. In a Harvard University experiment, a graduating class from the university was asked about goals they had for their life after graduation. In following up with the same students 10 years later, those students who had goals in their heads were earning twice as much as the students with no goals. Those students who had clearly defined and written goals were earning – get this – 10 times as much as the other two groups combined! It’s the AAR’s goal to help all our members increase their production in 2013 and you have our commitment that we will provide you with the tools and resources you need to do that. I wish you a joyous and healthy holiday season and I’m looking forward to having you as a member for what promises to be an exciting 2013. Cheers to your wealth,

Andrew Cooper

Further, the I.R.S. can redeem for the amount of an I.R.S. lien within 120 days. Additionally, the possible redeemer has the right to possession of the property until the redemption period runs. President’s Farewell Message & Year In Review By Ryan Asao, 2012 AAR President

As I reflect on all that has happened in my life personally and professionally in 2012, I am most proud of the many successes I achieved during my Presidency of the Arcadia Association of REALTORS®. I began this year striving to make a difference for our members in this difficult economic climate. At the AAR, we have not only retained our membership in a challenging market, our membership increased by over 7% YTD. The success of our members was always the main focus behind every decision we made this past year. With AAR Executive Vice-President, Andrew Cooper’s and AAR Director of Education, Stephanie Maertens’ efforts, we increased our educational opportunities 3-fold with relevant classes to help our members make more sales and get educated! Through education, we provided more services than ever to our members. We increased communication through our new website we launched earlier in the year and we provided broker/ member outreach programs (ex: New Member Welcome Reception). I am also very proud of starting the AllStAARs Toastmaster group for our members who would like to improve their speaking and presentation skills. I am very proud to be the founding President of this amazing group. This year Andrew and I focused on reducing Association expenses without sacrificing services. The Budget and Finance Committee did an amazing job in changing the budgeting culture of our Association. We made smart decisions that will benefit all the members in our great association. Our community outreach has really grown this year with the new direction of our Public Relations Committee. We sponsored and attended many community events in our surrounding areas where we promoted the AAR, the strong value of using a REALTOR® and the virtues of home ownership.

We did so well this year, I was asked to be a panelist at the California Association of REALTORS® President’s Forum. I had the pleasure of sharing the amazing things we are doing in Arcadia with all the other Presidents and President-Elects throughout the state! On the panel, they asked what my favorite and least favorite moments were while I was President of the Arcadia Association of REALTORS®. There are so many things I really enjoyed about this Presidency. I really enjoyed making a difference for our members and I enjoyed the relationships I made this year. The most challenging responsibility is having the weight of the Association on my shoulders. I realize many of our members are struggling this year. Business has been difficult but I hope you took advantage of all the education your association offered this year because education will improve your business and help you grow as a professional and to keep you competitive and relevant in this market. A prime example of us trying to meet the needs of our members is the free Business Planning Seminar we’re hosting on December 13th in the AAR building. I challenge you to find another Association willing to do this for their members. I would like to thank all of the Board of Directors, Committee Chairmen, Committee members, amazing Association staff, volunteers and Affiliates for a great team effort this year. I would also like to offer a huge thank you to Andrew Cooper, (in my opinion one of the best Association Executive’s in the country), who helped to coordinate and facilitate everything the Association did this year and helped to contribute much to the success of the AAR. I hope you, as members, felt the difference! I surrounded myself with great people who shared my vision and passion for making a difference. I had a phenomenal year as your President of the Arcadia Association of REALTORS® and I look forward to a promising future. In closing, I hope I have inspired others to follow in my footsteps and to get involved with our great Association! The Presidency actually forced me to grow professionally and personally and I am a better person because of it. I had to learn how to become more efficient with my time and I surrounded myself with hard working people. Everyone told me my business would suffer during my Presidency. I thank God every day that they were wrong. I had the best year of my career! I attribute that success to making great contacts through my volunteerism across the country and in our local market in addition to tireless hard work, great focus and of course to the endless support of my wife, Paula and our three wonderful children. Thanks again for everyone’s support and I loved representing you all this year as the President of the Arcadia Association of REALTORS®!

“Truth Is In. Myths Are Out” By Helen Spencer, Pacific Advisors

Myth: You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks: Nope. Just because a dog is approaching its more senior years doesn’t mean it can’t learn a new thing or two. In fact, with approximately 15 minutes of training every day for two weeks straight, even the most stuborn dog can usually learn how to sit, stay, fetch, roll-over or whatever your heart desires, regardless of age. The same is true of the myth that you can’t benefit from life insurance unless you die. If you take the time to learn about a policy’s living benefits and the different ways you can use them, you’ll discover some neat new tricks yourself. Myth: Double dipping puts germs into the dip: True; but so what? You run the same risk from breathing the same air as the double-dipper, or shaking hands with them, or kissing. It’s like the myth that “whole life insurance is a lousy place to put your money” – that’s true, too, if your idea of “good place” is somewhere you risk losing a lot on the chance of double-digit returns. If you prefer moderate but safe cash value growth, tax deferred, and an income-tax-free death benefit for your heirs, whole life is a very good place to put your money. Myth: Red cars get more speeding tickets: Busted: There are several plausible theories why this myth could be true. The trouble is, there’s no data to support any of the theories, much

less the myth itself. The same can be said for the belief that “all life insurance is created equal”. Although all policies seem to serve the same purpose, the differences can be profound. The safety and security of your whole life policy depends on the insurer you purchase it from. And with the customization options of riders or other special features, no two policies are the same. Myth: Hair and nails continue to grow after you die: False. This might look true, but it’s just an optical illusion. Bodies dehydrate in death, causing the flesh to pull away from nails and hair. Another illusion that is still being perpetuated by ‘financial experts’ is the myth that “Once you retire you should cash in your life insurance policy.” That might look like a good idea, but what we find is that all too many people get to retirement and find out, too late, that they’d be better off with a lot more insurance! Whole life insurance as part of your financial strategy can provide financial freedom, an additional level of security, and a legacy for loved ones. Everyone’s life situation is different. However, for all of us, death only comes once. There are many life insurance questions you should ask yourself. The key concept to understand is that you should not leave life insurance out of your budget unless you have enough assets to cover expenses for your loved ones after you’re gone. You can contact Helen Spencer at (626) 252-6047. Recently, Randall Traw, National Association of REALTORS® Presidential Liaison to Singapore traveled the country to attend business meetings with other Presidential Liaison’s and N.A.R. Leadership. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss upcoming events and movements to better establish real estate systems in Singapore. N.A.R. funded this trip. Thank you to N.A.R.!
