What is the Best Way to conduct Ignition Coils Test? What are Ignition Coils? Ignition coils are small parts present in every vehicle that enable the car to start by amplifying the voltage generated by the car battery and helps to fire up spark plugs. Ignition coil packs are easy to replace without the aid of a mechanic but only genuine and compatible products must be used. Otherwise, the car would experience breakdowns on a regular basis and the performance of the vehicle would drop. Process of Testing The first step to conduct a bench test on the Crown Victoria ignition coils is to grab a pair of insulated pliers and then use it to hold the plug wire of the vehicle. The next step is to search for a proper grounding point around the engine. The spot must be easy to access and the metal in the area must be exposed. The best place to use for this purpose is the engine of the car.

While holding the spark plug wire with the insulated pliers, it becomes essential to make contact with the chosen grounding spot with the threaded area of the spark plug. There should be someone present to start the engine of the vehicle while paying sufficient attention to the spark plug gap. The object to look out for is a bright blue spark that will jump across the gap i.e. the electricity. If the person is able to observe this blue spark in a clear manner, even during the daylight, that indicates that the spark plug of the vehicle is in good condition.

Importance of Multimeter Test

The bench test is not the only test that can be conducted on the ignition coil. There are loads of other tests that can be performed to understand the F150 ignition coils better. The most accurate information regarding the status of the ignition coil can only be gained when a multimeter test is performed. The test happens to be extremely accurate in determining whether or not the owner of the vehicle needs to replace the coil.

It is possible that the owner of the vehicle chooses to rely on the bright blue spark that they view in the bench test but if that spark happens to be rather weak, using the defective spark plug can cause the vehicle to run in a rough manner. The spark plug happens to be one of the most crucial components of the total ignition system of the vehicle. It is up to the owner of the car to ensure that he gets the spark plug checked on a regular basis as has been recommended by the manufacturer. The spark plug needs to be kept clean at all times and it must be replaced once the life period has expired.
