I
t is November in Kuwait, the harshness of summer has receded leaving warm days and pleasant evenings in its wake. A crescent moon, the symbol of the faithful in this part of the world, hangs in the blackness above the horizon. As the lights of the stud flicker on, the only sound that breaks the silence is the gentle cascade of water from the nearby fountains and the occasional call from a stallion. The grooms are beginning to turn out the stallions, mares and foals to their paddocks for the night, having spent the day sheltered from the heat. This summer routine will soon be reversed as winter brings cooler days. A L G H A N AY I M S T U D > 1 < W O R L D
We are at Al Ghanayim Stud, the equine paradise built by Mr. Ayad Al Thuwainy that is literally a stone’s throw from the Saudi border in Al Wafra, southern Kuwait. “In the beginning, this was not the plan,” recalls Ayad with a smile. “It was supposed to be a small facility with a few horses for fun, just a hobby. With time the hobby became a passion and things became more serious. With an increase in the number of horses, came an increase in the number of staff and of course, greater requirements for their care. When we started in 2015, I never envisioned it would reach the size and scope of what it is today.” Upon entering gates of the stud, the most striking aspect is the incredible expanse of grass that carpets the entire property. It is truly unique in the Middle East.

The farm boasts 99 stalls and 20 turn-out paddocks, along with walkers, and a state of the art equine pool to help condition horses. As for equine residents, Al Ghanayim Stud includes fourteen stallions, forty-six broodmares, five recipient mares and thirty-five young fillies, colts and foals.

Ayad nurtured his love of horses with his uncle, who was one of the largest Arabian breeders in Kuwait before the Iraq invasion. From October through April, Ayad would spend every day after school at the racetrack with his uncle’s horses. This deep understanding of the Arabian’s utility reverberates through the stud as all the stallions are ridden for their daily exercise. Even older stallions, who were not started under saddle until arriving at the farm, are ridden.
The most recent addition to the facility is an impressive air-conditioned barn that includes stalls, walkers, and an equine pool with a unique area to entertain guests and present horses, allowing the entire operation to move indoors during critical times of the year. “The Kuwaiti weather is very harsh in summer,” explains Ayad. “We also have about a month and a half in winter that is cold and windy. So, we have five months when we can’t live outside. Because of this, we decided that we needed to have an indoor facility for the horses' comfort, and ours. This allows us to operate 365 days a year no matter the weather.” Soon the facility will also include a state-of-the-art breeding center that is capable of handling fresh and frozen semen, as well as performing embryo transfers. Any time spent with Ayad makes it clear that the most important aspects of his involvement with horses is to share them with family and friends. “I have two presentations a week,” says Ayad with a smile of genuine pleasure. “I show my horses for myself, then my family and friends. Because of this, it is important for them to be presented properly.” There are two paddocks, on each side in which to present horses, enabling the viewers to escape the breeze or sun depending on the direction. There are movable glass panels for when it is nice, or enclosed with air conditioning or heat depending on the seasons.

A facility is nothing without proper management, and in this regard Ayad made an astute choice, bringing in William Oppen who has a wealth of experience and is also a popular international judge. Trained as a vet, William was hired out of university by the well known and influential Zichy-Thyssen Arabians in Argentina. From there, William played an integral role at the world renowned Al Shaqab Stud in Doha, Qatar in 2002.
“After working more than 20 years for Zichy-Thyssen, including the two periods before and after Al Shaqab, I knew I could only work for someone with a first-rate breeding and show program and with the best possible facilities,” explains William. “In 2019, I had an offer to come and see Al Ghanayim Stud in Kuwait. After meeting Mr. Ayad I realized this was the place I was looking for. Mr. Ayad is well educated, an entrepreneur, and a gentleman, and those qualities made my decision easier.”

Recently added to the staff is fellow Argentinian, Lucas Fernández, who handles the training responsibilities. This is the first time that Al Ghanayim has handled training in-house. The 22-year-old gained experience at Luca Oberti Training Center in Italy and Al Khor Stud in Qatar before arriving at Al Ghanayim. “I have only known Lucas for a couple months,” explains William, “but he is humble, disciplined, hard working and an astute horseman. He is also a good person and gets along with the staff. I see a bright future for him in this industry. “We are also very lucky to have on staff Dr. Dayvory Zalotini," continues William. “He is probably one of the best veterinarians I have worked with in my career and we could not be prouder that he's here at Al Ghanayim Stud.”

While the facility and staff developed at Al Ghanayim Stud is impressive compared to the best in the industry, what really makes Ayad’s vision unique is his commitment to breeding black Arabians at a level few have ever attempted. Currently there are in residence ten black stallions, eighteen black mares and seven black colts and fillies. This rare, hand-picked collection rivals any program in the world, and is the core of the Al Ghanayim breeding program. One of the recent imports to the stud is the Italian-bred black stallion Jakhal Alfabia (ZT Marwteyn x ZT Magna Psyche by ZT Magnanimus). Bred by Gigi Grasso, Jakhal

Alfabia paints a striking profile with his length of neck, incredible throatlatch, beautiful head and length of leg. He is also a sensible horse, easy to handle, and in the Al Ghanayim tradition is ridden regularly for exercise. “We have had a lot of black stallions since the beginning, mainly of Egyptian blood. Jakhal offered something that we were missing, a black stallion of nonEgyptian blood to serve as an outcross for our Egyptian mares, as well as useful on our purebred Arabian mares,” explains Ayad. “When I went to see Jakhal for the first time, he was very close to the black Arabian stallion ideal that I had in my mind. I saw in him certain characteristics that would complement our mares.”

Jakhal Alfabia had been used sparingly prior to being purchased by Al Ghanayim. “You could probably count his foals on one hand, but I liked what I saw, I liked the quality, and was convinced that he is what we needed,” remembers Ayad. “And to be honest, I also liked the fact that there were limited progeny, as he would be exclusive to Al Ghanayim. I wanted to create my own niche with him.” It stands to reason that Jakhal Alfabia is not available to outside breeders, standing only for the mares of Al Ghanayim.
Jakhal Alfabia’s first foals at Al Ghanayim arrived this past breeding season, and the results are spectacular. Not all are black, but enough are, and all have huge eyes, beautiful faces and long upright, well-hinged necks. “We are really lucky and proud of this most recent foal crop,” continues Ayad. “We are starting to see what we were hoping for with Jakhal. So I am also very hopeful about what is coming in the next few years.”

The Mares of Al Ghanayim Stud “Al Ghanayim also breeds horses of other colors, and identifies these as “non-blacks” from the stud’s perspective. “After I established a good foundation with black mares, I started to look for non-blacks, mainly of Egyptian breeding,” recalls Ayad. “Thanks to some of our dear friends and breeders, many who have been breeding much longer than we have, some 25 years, we were allowed to acquire some of their best mares to add to our foundation. We also bred them to some excellent outside sires, and the results are very gratifying.”
The black breeding program can be divided into straight Egyptian and non-straight Egyptians. Furthermore, the straight Egyptians are divided into descendants, on the sire's side, of primarily the two Nazeer sons, *Morafic and *Ansata Ibn Halima++. “Ayad's mind as a breeder is different,” comments Shawn Crews, who has worked with Ayad on the selection of a number of his straight Egyptian foundation stock. “At first glance Ayad’s thought process in breeding resembles the chaos of how a puzzle looks when you open the box and see hundreds of pieces. What Ayad sees, and sees differently than anyone I have known… is the spectacular picture that those pieces create. That is the mind of a great breeder. From what Jeff and I saw on this last trip, it is going to be an exciting time at Al Ghanayim Stud.”
A Unique Breeding Philosophy On the pages to follow, you will find lists of Al Ghanayim Stud's straight Egyptian mares arranged by sire line. Although the importance of the mare’s tail female lines were key in Ayad's aquisition process as he assembled the highest quality foundation mares, in most cases the physical traits of the mares most resemble their sire's family. So much so, that when glancing across the field, it is quite easy to know which mares are descendants of which of the three famous stallions that most of the herd traces to…*Morafic, *Ansata Ibn Halima++ or Sameh. By using his diverse group of stallions, Ayad breeds those mares to both concentrate the stallion line and desired traits as well as to blend and cross the three groups. In addition, he is using the strong Egyptian gene pools to blend with his Arabian purebreds. Whether Ayad and his team are making breeding decisions for their straight Egyptian mares or choices for their purebred Arabian stallion, Jakhal Alfabia, the sire lines play an integral role in their decision making process. • Mares pictured throughout the story. The recent acquisition for Al Ghanayim Stud is an example of Ayad’s continued search for something special to enhance his breeding program. He found it in the black mare Dana Alkhamiss (Sabea Al Muawd x Durrat Alkhamiss). The 2016 mare exhibits an
incredible attitude and the exotic type that is treasured in an Arabian mare regardless the color, even more so when it is black. Currently in Belgium, she will join the broodmare band at Al Ghanayim, where Ayad is looking forward to seeing what she can produce.

It becomes clear that Ayad’s mission is not just amassing a collection of high quality horses, it is what his influence can mean to the future of the breed. “The proof of every breeder is his progeny,” says Ayad, with a seriousness in his tone. “How will history will judge what we created here? Two years ago, just before the pandemic, we entered some of our first homebreds in shows here in Kuwait. Almost all won their classes, either first or second. I was very pleased with those results.” The show was the Kuwait Breeders Cup for Straight Egyptians in February of 2020. Those who have been to Kuwait, know these shows are quite competitive with over 20 entries per section. The group of homebreds was led by the grey Rowah Al Ghanayim (Shamekh Al Danat x Tabasheer Al Wafy) who won her section of yearling fillies, as did stablemate Zainah Al Ghanayim (Samir Ali x Safina RCA) in the class for two-year-olds. One of the farm’s first successes with black horses was Abjar Al Ghanayem (Bellagio RCA x Kavetas Miracle RCA) winning three-year-old colts. Al Ghanayim has also won laurels internationally. Aljawhara Al Danat (Ezz Al Danat x Al Massa Aldanat), purchased from good friend Mr. Mohammad Al Omar, owner of Al Danat Stud, has carried the banner for Al Ghanayim. In 2018 she earned a Bronze Championship for Yearling Fillies at the Straight Egyptian World Championships in Vermezzo, Italy.

As enthusiastic as Ayad is about his first foray into showing, he is even more keen to build on their initial success. “I am very excited for when shows start up again in Kuwait, I think we will be more prepared and even better positioned,” explains Ayad. “I believe the quality of our foals has improved, as has our ability to prepare the horses for shows. So this is something I am really looking forward to. But the overall direction of the breeding program, rather than the show results, is Ayad’s focus. “I believe the next five years will be more interesting than the last five,” relays Ayad with excitement. “The first five years, we began from nothing, constructing a foundation of mares, the facility, everything. Now, we have reached a proper foundation to actually start building something of note. I am really optimistic about where we are going. “Now, I come more often, and am involved in all of the details of the stud, especially during foaling. Whenever I have any extra time, I am here to check on the horses, discuss plans and future breedings. Horses have changed me completely from the man I was before. They give
me the greatest joy, especially when you start to see some successful results. In some ways, it reminds me of my children – when there is a foal I want to know everything, is it okay? How is the mare? I just want the best for them. They have become like my family.”

Ayad’s passion for horses is something he shares with his family on a regular basis, and has been a pleasure for all of his children. “We are happy my father got to fulfill his passion and create this environment for the horses and us too,” explains his daughter Ghaneemah, capturing the sentiment of her siblings. “We do not get bored when we come here, there is so much to do. I think his passion has become our passion as well. We have connected on a very personal level with our father and the horses.”
“Breeding a horse is different from buying one. It is nice when you buy a horse and develop a relationship with it, but when you breed them, the relationship is much more intense,” explains Ayad, his face more serious now. “You agonize over the decision of the stallion, you celebrate a healthy foal, but then began to worry whether anything will happen to it.” It is a sentiment shared by true breeders all over the world. Breeding has never been a science, a linear equation, but more a seemingly unrelated pattern that the best are able to see clearly. The best breeding decisions are often guided more by intuition or feel than an articulation of facts.

Purchaser hereby acknowledges that I/we purchased breeding to the above-named stallion to be used during the current breeding season (year), to a mare of my choice, for the sum listed above, after having made the high bid and being declared “Purchaser” at auction in Scottsdale, AZ. I acknowledge and agree to the listed fees. Purchaser also agrees to be responsible for compliance with the requirements as set forth in the breeding contract including, but not limited to health papers, vaccinations, normal mare care fees and miscellaneous charges. Purchaser has the right to sell or transfer breeding, but must notify the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona with new owners contact information. Purchaser further agrees that a nonrefundable down payment of FIFTY PERCENT (50%) OF THE PURCHASE PRICE IS PAYABLE AT TIME OF SIGNING OF THIS CONTRACT; balance is payable to Arabian Horse Association of Arizona prior to time of service of mare, or April 1 of auction/breeding year whichever date is the earlier. Purchaser agrees to pay the bid price in full on this date, or on the terms provided in this contract and to execute a promissory note for the remaining balance due. It is further agreed that at time of full payment of the breeding fee, a certificate provided by the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona will be forwarded to Purchaser and that the certificate must be presented on delivery of the mare to the stallion owner prior to breeding of the mare or at request for Semen to be shipped.

If Purchaser defaults in the payment of the balance due under the terms of this contract, Purchaser will lose all rights to the Breeding and nomination to the Scottsdale Signature Stallion program, and the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona shall have the right to handle the situation as it deems fit, including selling the Breeding to a third party or completing the Purchaser’s performance of contract by payment of the balance, if any, due hereunder the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona, and shall then be entitled to utilize said breeding without any further obligation to Purchaser. If the purchaser defaults on the auction breeding, purchaser is still obligated for full payment on the auction breeding even if the auction breeding is resold. If there is a lawsuit related to this Contract, the prevailing party shall be entitled to reasonable attorney’s fees and costs incurred in such action. This Agreement and any disputes arising under this Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Arizona.
In the event the stallion owner by reason of death or injury of the stallion is unable to fulfill this agreement, the breeding deposit will be refunded without interest, unless there is frozen semen available. If the stallion is sold, leased or relocated with in the United States of America prior to the conclusion of the breeding season, the stallion owner shall be responsible to the Purchaser for increases of fees and costs in breeding to the stallion in excess of those fees set forth in the Stallion Owners Breeding Contract, including but not limited to boarding and foaling fees, etc., and/or the costs of shipping semen to be paid by original stallion owner. If the stallion is relocated outside of the United States of America, the breeding deposit may be refunded, without interest, to the Purchaser upon approval by the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona. It is further agreed that the breeding herein purchased is subject to the rules and regulations of the Scottsdale Signature Stallion Auction & Futurity sponsored by the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona, and that in the event Purchaser fails to comply with the terms and conditions of this sale or the rules and regulations of the Futurity, the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona may retain the down payment as liquidated damages and declare the contract

AUCTION & HALTER/PERFORMANCE FUTURITY GENERAL RULES General Rules
A. The Scottsdale Signature Stallion (SSS) Auction, Halter & Performance Futurity consists of three sections: 1. Scottsdale Signature Stallion Halter Yearling Auction 2. Scottsdale Signature Stallion Halter Futurity 3. Scottsdale Signature Stallion Performance Futurity B. Only nominated offspring from purebred mares who have been bred to nominated SSS Stallions are eligible. Mares must be nominated each year they are bred for the resulting foal to be eligible to compete in the futurity. All Auction breeding must be nominated as well. C. The Arabian Horse Association of Arizona Board of Directors shall have complete authority to handle all disagreements concerning issues in the SSS Program. The AHAA Board of Directors has final decision making on all dispute resolution.
Right Holder Rules
A. A limited number of memberships into the Scottsdale Signature Stallion Auction & Futurity have been sold, each membership owner is referred to as “Right Holder”. B. As a Scottsdale Signature Stallion “Right Holder” you can: 1. Nominate at least one (1) stallion owned or leased by you into the SSS Auction & Futurity program on a yearly basis. There is no limit to the number of stallions a Right holder can nominate for a fee of $500/stallion/year. 2. Right Holders who do not nominate a owned or leased stallion into the SSS Auction & Futurity program each year will be required to pay a $500 right holder membership fee that must be paid by November 1. 3. Right Holders are eligible to nominate one (1) sponsored (non-owned) stallion each year. The $500/yearly nomination fee will be billed to sponsored in stallion owner. C. Right Holder agrees: 1. For each stallion nominated into the SSS Futurity the stallion owner agrees to donate one breeding for the SSS Auction each year the stallion is nominated. 2. Each “Right Holder” is subject to the General Rules & Regulations of the Signature Stallion Auction & Futurity. 3. Each “Right Holder” must be a current member in good standing with AHAA. 4. Each “Right Holder” agrees to abide by the current AHAA by-laws. 5. Each “Right Holder” agrees that the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona Board of Directors shall have complete authority to handle all disagreements concerning issues in the SSS Program. The AHAA Board of Directors has final decision making on all dispute resolution. D. Sale or Transfer of Rights: As a “Right Holder” you can transfer or sell your right(s) at your own discretion as long as you are in good standing with AHAA. Any unpaid SSS fees including but not limited to memberships, stallion nominations, auction breeding’s, etc. will cause the SSS Right to be in bad standing and the “Right Holder” membership will be rescinded and go back to the SSS Futurity Program as the official owner.
Nominated Stallion Rules
A. Stallion owner/agent must ensure that all breeding defects of the Stallion are included on Nomination Form and Breeding Agreement. B. If breeding is to be done by frozen semen only it must be disclosed and the Stallion owner/agent must ensure that at least ten (10) straws of frozen semen will be available for breeding. C. Stallions must be nominated each breeding year to participate. Stallion owner must fill out paperwork each year to officially nominate their stallions for breeding year and pay a $500 nomination fee per stallion by October 1. Stallions will remain in the program unless AHAA is notified of any changes. D. If a nominated stallion is pulled from the program for any reason before the auction a fine of $2,500 will be charged to the owner and the stallion will not be eligible for mare nominations into the SSS futurity for that year. There will be no refunds of nomination or entry fees. E. Stallion owners will be required to donate one breeding each year of nomination to the Scottsdale Signature Stallion Auction, which will be auctioned off at the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. The breeding donated for each stallion will come with a live foal guarantee. This breeding can be carried over to future breeding years, but the nomination to the Auction class shall only be allowed for foals conceived in the year the breeding was purchased (some exceptions apply). The stallion owner does not get an auction breeding in this program. F. If breeding is not sold at the conclusion of the auctions the stallion owner/agent guarantees to purchase back the breeding for $1,100. The auction will tentatively consist of three phases: the initial live auction consisting of horses that have a minimum bid of $1,700, a live auction on Sunday in the SSS booth and the online auction which will close on March 15th. The SSS Committee at any point has the option to change the format of the auction for best success. All owner/agents by submitting a stallion agree to the direction of the SSS Committee. G. Unpaid fees owed for any reason will go back to the AHAA Board of Directors, breeding’s, nominations, right holder memberships, etc. will be rescinded and resold. H. Stallion owner agrees to comply with Scottsdale Signature Stallion Service Breeding Agreement rules and must honor fees that have been indicated on the agreement. If stallion moves to another barn or outside the country all fees indicated must stay the same. I. If approved by AHAA Board of Directors stallion owners must honor a one-year carry-over of SSS Auction Breeding to stallion. Applicant wishing to carry over their auction breeding may only do so if the mare was bred and the breeding did not result in a pregnancy. Mare owner must submit a notarized vet’s certificate/note stating mare was checked in foal but is no longer in foal (vets note must be notarized, year of breeding, stallion and mare names must be included). Stallion owner must submit a notarized letter stating the semen ship dates and record of breeding history for the breeding in question. All requests and notarized letters must be declared (received) by December 31 of SSS Auction purchase year stating that they would like to carry the Auction breeding over.

Auction Breeding Rules
A. Each stallion nominated in the SSS Futurity is required to donate a breeding for the SSS Auction each year nominated. B. Stallion owner/agent must ensure that all breeding defects of the Stallion are included on Nomination Form and Breeding Agreement. C. If breeding is to be done by frozen semen only, such fact must be disclosed and Stallion owner must ensure that at least ten (10) straws of frozen semen will be available for this breeding. D. Purchaser of Auction breeding agrees that a nonrefundable down payment of FIFTY PERCENT (50%) OF THE PURCHASE PRICE IS PAYABLE AT TIME OF SIGNING OF THE CONTRACT; balance is payable to AHAA prior to time of service of mare, or April 1 of auction/breeding year whichever date is the earlier. Purchaser agrees to pay the bid price in full on this date, or on the terms provided in SSS Service breeding contract and to execute a promissory note for the remaining balance due. If the stallion is sold, leased, or relocated within the United States of America prior to the conclusion of the breeding season, the original stallion owner, not the Purchaser, will be responsible for increases of fees and costs in breeding to the stallion in excess of those fees set forth in the Stallion Owners Breeding Contract, including but not limited to boarding and foaling fees, etc., and/or the costs of shipping semen. If the stallion is relocated outside of the United States of America, the breeding deposit may be refunded, without interest, to the Purchaser upon approval by the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona. G. Only breeding’s purchased at the Scottsdale Signature Stallion Auction will be eligible to compete in the Scottsdale Signature Yearling Auction classes. Mares must be nominated into the auction class before December 31 of current year. There will be no fee charged for nomination into the auction class. The auction class is limited only to auction breeding’s purchased at the auction of current year of nomination (some exceptions apply). H. All breeding’s purchased at the auction will also be eligible to enter the Scottsdale Signature Stallion Futurity for a $100 nomination fee postmarked or emailed by December 31. These nominations will also have the option to participate in the Gelding Incentive for a $25 additional nomination fee. I. Only one Mare Nomination for auction breeding can be submitted. Mare Nominations are required to designate recipient mare if embryo transfer (ET) applies, prior to December 31 of breeding year. J. There is no limit to how many mares can be nominated into futurity to any one stallion. All Mare nominations must be postmarked or emailed by December 31 of breeding year. K. One Year Carry-Over of SSS Auction Breeding’s may be granted by the AHAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS at their discretion. Applicants wishing to carry over their auction breeding may only do so if the mare was bred and the breeding did not result in a pregnancy. Auction purchasers who would like to request a one year carry over must submit: i. A letter stating that they would like to carry the breeding over to the following year, letter must include the name of the stallion whose auction breeding was purchased and the mare that it was bred to. ii. A notarized vet’s certificate/note stating: year of breeding, stallion’s name and mare’s name that was bred, vet needs to indicate why the mare is not in foal (aborted, absorbed, mare was never checked in foal etc.) iii. A notarized letter from the stallion owner confirming the semen ship dates and a record of breeding history for SSS Auction breeding in question. iv. All information must be postmarked by December 31 of SSS Auction purchase year.
Nominated Mare Rules
A. Any purebred mare bred to a nominated stallion in the Scottsdale Signature Stallion program is eligible to be nominated. Nominated stallions list is subject to change, updated list is found on http://scottsdaleshow.com/breeding-programs/sss-futurity-information. B. The mare must be registered with the Arabian Horse Association or the Canadian Arabian Horse Registry. C. The Mare Nomination Form must be completely filled in, signed and include the nomination fee before the mare will be accepted. D. The mare must be nominated and the $100 nomination fee per mare must be paid by December 31 of the year the mare is bred. If nominations are postmarked after December 31 but before January 31 there will be a $200 penalty fee added to $100 nomination fee. A vet’s letter must be submitted at that time with breeding record stating that mare has not foaled as of date of submission. E. Mare owner also has the option to participate in the Gelding Incentive for a $25 additional nomination fee.
F. The resulting foal remains nominated and eligible to be shown as a yearling, two-year, threeyear old, four-year and older in halter division classes, and in the performance division classes, regardless of sale or transfer of ownership. G. Any purebred offspring sired by a Scottsdale Signature Stallion (ever nominated into SSS Auction & Futurity) can be nominated into the futurity and will then be eligible to compete in all SSS three year of age and older halter and performance futurity/maturity classes. The fee will be a one-time nomination of $7,500 (non-refundable). H. If the resulting foal from the mare nomination dies before standing to nurse, you may request a credit forward of nomination fee to the next time you submit a mare nominations. A notarized vet letter must be attached to the new nomination. The vet’s letter must state: year of breeding, stallion’s name and mare’s name that was bred, vet needs to indicate what happened with the foal (aborted, absorbed, mare was never checked in foal, died at birth, etc.)
II. Judging & Showing of Halter & Performance Horses
A. The resulting foals can be shown as yearlings at the Scottsdale Signature Yearling Futurity Class as fillies and colts/geldings. (2 classes) B. The resulting foals can be shown as two-year olds: Halter (fillies, colts & geldings). (3 classes) C. The resulting foals can be shown as three-year olds: Halter (fillies, colts & geldings) D. The resulting foals can be shown as three, four and five-year old in SSS designated Performance classes (Country English, Hunter & Western). E. The resulting foals can be shown as well in any additional Scottsdale Signature Stallion Classes that are added. F. Prize money will be awarded in each division (See Section III). G. Judging will be done by a 3 or 5 Judge Scottsdale comparative system. The judging system for each year will be published in the Prize List and the method of which can be modified by AHAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS at any time. H. The resulting foals must be shown by persons holding current USEF membership cards with amateur certification. I. Designated runners with amateur certifications will be allowed to run the horses into the ring for the owner in the SSS Auction classes, an amateur runner may only run one horse per class. Professional handlers will be allowed to show in the 3 & 4-year-old performance classes ONLY.
III. Prize Money & Ribbons Scottsdale Signature Auction Proceeds:

Scottsdale Signature Two-Year-Old Futurity @ the Scottsdale Show
A. Prize money for the Two-Year Old Futurity classes will be comprised of 100% of the Mare Nominations from breeding year. B. The prize money will be divided equally between colts, geldings & fillies and awarded to each as follows: Champion................................35% Reserve Champion .................17.5% Remainder of top ten .............47.5% (divided by 8) C. In the event there are less than ten entries in a class, the proposed payout will stay the same for those placed and the remaining prize money will be added to the performance division.
Scottsdale Signature Two-Year-Old Futurity @ the Arabian National Breeder Finals
A. Prize money for the Two-Year old Futurity @ the Finals classes will be comprised of 5% of the Scottsdale Signature Stallion Auction proceeds from the year of nomination. B. The prize money will be divided equally between colts/geldings and fillies (If numbers warrant the colts and geldings will be split and prize money will be offered in 3 classes) and awarded to each as follows: Champion:...............................35% Reserve Champion .................17.5% Remainder of Top Ten ............47.5% (divided by 8) C. In the event there are less than ten entries in a class, the proposed payout will stay the same for those placed and the remaining prize money will be added to the performance division.
Scottsdale Signature Three-Year-Old Futurity @ the Scottsdale Show

Scottsdale Signature Yearling Auction Classes @ the Scottsdale Show
A. Prize money for the Three-Year Old Auction classes will be comprised of 100% of the $100 - 3 year old Auction fee collected at the SSS Auction. A decision by the right holders in 2016 the last class will be held in 2019. This fee will then be redirected to the Gelding Incentive for all future years starting 2020. B. The prize money will be divided equally between colts, geldings and fillies and awarded to each as follows: Champion................................35% Reserve Champion .................17.5% Remainder of Top Ten ............47.5% (divided by 8) C. In the event there are less than five entries in a class, the proposed payout will stay the same for those placed and the remaining prize money will be used for sponsored purses.
A. Two classes will be offered, one for fillies and one for colts. B. The prize money for these classes will come from 35% of the stallion auction funds and be divided between these two classes. C. Each class will award a Top Ten along with a Champion and Reserve Champion, with prize money as follows: Champion................................35% Reserve Champion .................17.5% Remainder of top ten .............47.5% (divided by 8) D. In the event there are less than ten entries in a class, the proposed payout will stay the same for those placed and the remaining prize money will be added to the performance division. E. Horses entered in the Scottsdale Signature Stallion Auction classes at the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show must be registered in the name of the competitor or a member of the competitor’s family. Family is defined as including “husband, wife, parent, step-parent, child, brother, step-child, sister, half brother and sister, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, grandmother, grandfather, grandchildren, and in-laws of the same relation as stated above.” Combined ownership is not permitted unless all owners are members of the same family. Horses registered in a farm, ranch, syndicate, partnership or corporation name may only be shown in the Scottsdale Signature Stallion Auction class if the family is the sole owner of the farm or entity. “Owned” means, in addition to other legitimate methods of acquiring ownership, the bona fide legal ownership obtained for adequate consideration in reasonable relationship with the actual market value of the horse. For example, a $5 payment for a Scottsdale Championship quality horse does not meet the required character of required ownership for competition in the Scottsdale Signature Stallion Auction classes. F. Designated Runners who are amateurs will be allowed in the SSS Auction Yearling classes only. Runners must have current USEF and AHA cards to be eligible to enter the class. Designated runners with amateur certifications will be allowed to run the horses into the ring for the owner in the SSS Auction classes, an amateur runner may only run one horse per class. Professional handlers will be allowed to show in the 3 & 4-year-old performance classes ONLY.

If additional classes are added, at the discretion of AHAA, then the prize money will be divided equally among all performance classes.
