October 5th Government Relations Committee Meeting Chamber Conference Room, Spirit River Center 16010 Apple Valley Road, Apple Valley Noon – 1:00 pm Chairman: Pat Orr, Little Caesars

Shortly after relocating my business to Apple Valley in 2015, I joined the chamber and quickly got involved by being accepted to the Board of Directors. I have served on many committees, including as your Treasurer last term. I am excited about all the forward progress the Chamber has made over the last three years, and I am equally excited to see continued growth and strength for this organization, its members, and the shared relationships we continue to foster with the Town. We have just completed our annual Board orientation where all of your current board members met with the ambassadors. A number of great ideas were shared and many robust conversations were had; everyone left with a sense of what has gone well, what we need to work on, and with excitement for future additional benefits we can bring to the membership. I look forward to working with and serving you!

Victoria Martin

QUICK CONNECT

Effective Networking Made Simple…and Fun!

F

or many, the word “networking” conjures up visions of uncomfortable people, in uncomfortable settings, trying desperately to appear comfortable. The thought of milling about a room, striking up strained conversations with strangers who may, or may not, be interested in your business is enough to strike terror in the most confident business executive. Fortunately, there is a networking event that is actually effective and fun! Quick Connect, an informal gathering of area businesses, is quickly becoming a hot ticket. The leisurely meet-andgreet is held the first Thursday of every month, and is free and open to Apple Valley Chamber members and nonmembers alike. This unique opportunity offers companies a platform to

introduce their products and services in a relaxed environment. Upon entering the Chamber’s community room, the modern, Western-themed space instantly draws you in. The mood is always jovial and open as decision makers from a cross section of diverse industries connect. As an exclusive member benefit, companies can sponsor the popular event. Most recently, first time sponsor ITM Mobile hosted Quick Connect in August. Thomas Hallin, Founder and CEO of the Apple Valley-based IT and digital application development firm, wasn’t sure what to expect, but admits he was pleasantly surprised at the turn out and how much fun everyone seemed to have. “I liked the buzz in the room,” says Hallin. “It’s so good for businesses to connect; to make it clear what their business is about.”

By T. Faye Griffin

WHERE LEADS HAPPEN There is no doubt Quick Connect produces a certain excitement—and for good reason. From executives to entrepreneurs, each is given the chance to give an elevator pitch about their companies during the 90-minute proceedings. This is an especially vital opportunity for home-based businesses. Hallin, also a facilitator of the HomeBased Business Council says he’s pleased with the number of leads he secured, making it clear that both sponsors and attendees can benefit. With only 12 sponsorship opportunities available each year, Chamber members interested in hosting are invited to apply quickly to reserve their space on the 2019 calendar. Once a date is secured, the Chamber staff will guide the company through the

logistics of planning an event that best showcases their business and leaves a lasting impression. Here’s an insider tip: raffle prizes, good eats, and smileinducing libations will never go unappreciated. Hallin says it best by drawing an ironic parallel between his company motto and Quick Connect-“We [both] make connecting fun.”
