Apogee Journal

Apogee is an independent literary journal. We primarily feature fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry by writers of color, as well as non-hegemonic perspectives on racial, social and political issues by writers of all races. Apogee Journal is created by students of color and international students in Columbia University’s MFA writing program. The desire for Apogee grew from discussions among members of Our Word, a student group devoted to artists of color in the program. However, Apogee is an independent publication, independent of Columbia University and Our Word. We are writers of fiction, nonfiction and poetry; we have studied literature, languages, political science and development; we have worked in several activist fields and in the publishing industry. We are united by a desire to read and publish fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction that pushes social boundaries and explores issues of race and cultural diversity.
