GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION 

INTRODUCTION

The Malaysian Townplan Journal is a partial academic journal published by the Federal Department of Town and Country Planning, Peninsular Malaysia (FDTCP) yearly since 2003. It covers news, feature articles, peer reviewed articles (including book reviews) related to the results of experiment and research on urban planning and development in Malaysia and other countries. The objective of the journal is to promote urban and rural planning activities through exchange of views and sharing of information and latest knowledge. 

JOURNAL’S THEME

‘Planning in Multi Colour’ was selected as theme for Malaysian Townplan 2012 issue. It is a continuation from Planning in Red (2009 theme), Planning in Green (2010 theme), Planning in Blue (2011 theme). The idea behind this theme is to highlight the issues and best practices, the success and failure, the past and present, the history and the future of town planning. In detail, this theme shall cover various scopes, such as planning history, urban morphology, conservation, urban design, issues of urban and rural developments, transportation planning, planning information system, safe city, liveable city, sustainable development, etc. 

SUBMISSION OF DRAFT OF ABSTRACT

The researcher / author who are interested to contribute any article is required to submit the draft abstract, consisting of the proposed title and summary of manuscript in about 150 words, by email, to the journal’s coordinator not later than 30 May 2012. The acceptance of the proposed article will be informed to the author on 15 June 2012 after it is verified by the Editorial Board. 

SUBMISSION AND ACCEPTANCE OF MANUSCRIPTS

Articles should ideally be in the range of 5,000 to 8,000 words. Each manuscript should have a title page and an abstract of about 150 words. The title page should contain the title, full name(s), designation(s), organisational affiliation(s), a contact address, and an email address. All articles received is on the understanding that they are not under concurrent consideration at any other journal and is an original work by the author(s). The authenticity of the articles submitted will be reviewed by the Editorial Board before it is selected for publication.

Author(s) of accepted articles will be requested to provide a digital copy of the manuscript, preferably in Microsoft Word to the FDTCP (the Publisher) via email at alias@townplan.gov.my or anwar.ramli@townplan.gov.my not later than 30 July 2012. The manuscripts should be attached with the following items: i) ii) iii)

Latest colour photo of author(s) – passport size; Brief personal resume of author(s) – full name, designation, work place address and working experience; and Email address or webpage.

Summary of important dates are as follows: i) ii) iii) iv) v) 

Submission of abstract / proposed article – 30 May 2012; Notification of the acceptance of article to author – 15 June 2012; Submission of final article by author – 30 July 2012; Editing, artwork and text setting and printing – 1 August – 30 October 2012; and Launching at World Town Planning Day Celebration – 8 November 2012

MANUSCRIPTS LAYOUT

Articles should be typed in single spacing (including footnotes, endnotes and references) on one side of the paper only (preferably A4) with the following margins: i) ii) iii)

Right and left – 2.5 cm, top - 2.5 cm and bottom – 2.5 cm in 12 point Times New Roman font; Footnotes should be numbered consecutively and placed at the end of the manuscripts; and Tables and diagrams should be provided either in the text or on separate sheets at the end of the manuscript.

REFERENCE FORMAT

References should be placed in alphabetical order at the end of the text and should cited in the text by the name(s) of the author(s), followed by the year of publication. When an author has more than one publication, arrange the references by placing the most recent one first. For books, be certain to include the place of publication of all publishers; for a journal include volume, month and pages. Do not abbreviate titles or citations. They shall appear in the following format: Journals:

USE OF FORMULA, FIGURES AND TABLES

Formula (mathematical formula) should be used only when necessary and the conclusions derived must be explained and made intelligible to a non-mathematical reader. Wherever possible, authors are encouraged to place the mathematical parts of the article in an appendix. All illustrations, photos, figures and/or tables in the manuscript must be captioned in coloured form (especially for illustrations and photos) or clear black and white (greyscale) and ready for reproduction. 

EDITORIAL POLICY

The content of the journal’s manuscripts do not necessarily reflect the views of the FDTCP nor are they official records. Manuscripts or articles submitted which do not conform to the conventions of the journal may be returned to the authors for revision. The Editorial Board will not take any responsibility for any information published in this journal for their authenticity. 

COPYRIGHT

Once published in the JOURNAL OF MALAYSIAN TOWNPLAN, the copyright of the article is automatically vested with the FDTCP (the Publisher). The copyright covers the exclusive use of rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including reprints, photographic reproductions, microfilm or any reproduction of a similar nature and translations. 
