What’s so special about your TOOL you use for your creative process? Actually, I can make graffiti with anything. In the past, I depended a lot of spray cans, but now I use any material that allows me to express color. When I was a little boy, I made graffiti using grass on a wall.

I love the fluidity of his work and the materials he uses. It also reminds me of myself— always rummaging about in my large handbags for something!“

Art appeals to me instantaneously. I usually buy on impulse, the piece I love and can afford at the same time.”

Does anyone ever wonder why most fruits are either sweet or sour? The purpose of fruit is to attract animals so that they will eat them and scatter the seeds in the surrounding area—the fruit is only a means to an end. In Chinese medicine, we say food has a “heating” or “cooling” effect on the body. Fruits with a heating effect such as lychee are best consumed if you’ve eaten too much cold food or drinks. Watermelon, on the other hand, has a cooling effect and works magic to ease sore throat pain.

Who’s Next magazine rack is assembled from a cube frame overlapped with parallelepiped steel rods. Designer MARCO RIPA visualised only the essential structure for creating a reduced form of the magazine rack which holds books in various dimensions. “Who Are You”, an umbrella stand with a similar design concept, makes a matching pair.

This perfect arc of unbalanced mass is SPLINTER WORKS’ approach to a sculptural pool slide – Shoot. Firmly rooted on the ground, the impressive carbon fiber creation rises steeply towards its pinnacle before plunging vertically into the pristine waters below. The edges of the sculpture curl inwards functioning as a handrail while footholds are seamlessly combined with decorative shapes that ascend from ground level. Water recreation has never been so luxurious!

GOOD EATS: Chilean abalone: as famous as it is, Chilean abalone is actually a species of sea snail. Thick, juicy and tastes like heaven! Indulge yourself with a plate of ‘Locos con mayo’, but don’t be surprised if it gets translated into “crazies with mayonnaise” on English menus!

77

GOOD DRINK: Chilean wine’s reputation is growing yet you can still enjoy inexpensive and widely available choices. Pisco sour, a cocktail made of Pisco (Chilean brandy) is a must try mix of lime/lemon juice, egg white and syrup—a very refreshing pre-dinner drink! To wash down the chacarero, try Chilean beers like Cristal, Escudo or Kuntsman.

SHOPPING: love outdoor art markets? You’re in for a treat! Every day throughout summer, local handicrafts markets are held on the oceanfront promenade. Alternatively, Viùa downtown is full of shopping galleries that may be a little hidden, but find just one and spend hours exploring the rest!

81

SEAFOOD: with its long coastline, Chile is spoiled with choices. Local specialities include Congrio (conger eel), Reineta (pomfret fish), Salmon, Machas (surf clams), ostiones (scallops), choritos (small mussels) etc.
