DEALER & MUSIC EDUCATOR COMMENTS Try placing an Antigua OB3410 C oboe in the hands of one of your music educators… You may be surprised at how easily this oboe can win over a music teacher. The following comments recently made by teachers indicate just how impressive the Antigua oboe is and what a great value it provides at a better than competitive price. From a recent email from an Antigua dealer in Kansas:

Morrie Backun at work on the Antigua-Backun wooden clarinet project

Antigua is proud to announce the launch of the Antigua-Backun wooden clarinet. The creation of this instrument has been a joint project between Antigua Winds and renowned woodwind designer, Morrie Backun, who states,

“This is a state of the art clarinet showing what happens when you bring together two of the most sophisticated manufacturing facilities in the world and a mutual desire to make the best product possible.” Morrie Backun has been on the cutting edge of clarinet design for many years. For more information on the Antigua-Backun clarinet, check out the Product Spotlight article on page 2.

“I just got off the phone with the mom who took out the oboe for trial. I wanted to let you know what she said. They went right to their lesson with her teacher who owns a Loree (oboe) and has several oboe students. She played it and her teacher played it and was very impressed. They had tried several other oboes and were not impressed. The teacher couldn’t find anything wrong with it but saw the name on the case and said “oh they are the ones who make good saxes”. The student likes it better than her teacher’s Loree. The teacher asked if I can get more at the MAP price ($1,959.00) because she has students who will be needing oboes. Cool...Mom told me her daughter wants to play it for a couple more days but is 99.9% sure she’ll purchase it...” -Fred Sullivan of Lighthouse Music Services in Bel Aire, KS

From a recent phone conversation with an Antigua Dealer in Louisiana:

“The principle oboist of the New Orleans Philharmonic was in my store a few days ago and I asked her to play the Antigua oboe. She liked it so much she asked the price of it… she then said that it was a steal at that price. She said it was every bit as good as her $5,000 Fox oboe that she uses for practice. Also, she stated that she would send some of her oboe students over to my store.” -Sal Michon of Michon Music in Metarie, LA

dealer Spotlight antigua endorsees/artists Congratulations to long-time Antigua dealers Paris and Larry York and all the fine folks that man The Music Store in Tulsa, OK, that recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary.

Larry York, President, Joined the store in 1977

Paris York Original partner when store was founded in 1972

Opening its doors in 1972, the family owned business is now operated by three York family generations – Paris, Larry and grandson, Adam. Paris and Larry purchased partner Bill Harris’ half of the company in 1981 and since have managed the store. Another reason for celebration centers on the recent expansion of The Music Store to a 12,000 square foot retail space.

Leslie and Mike Faltin, Co-owners of Instrumental Music Center

Congratulations to Leslie and Mike Faltin co-owners of Instrumental Music Center of Tucson, AZ. on the opening of their second Tucson location. Mike, a percussionist and former band director, opened their first store in 1999; his wife, Leslie, joined the store full-time in August 2001 after a career in laser and fiberoptics. Now, they have opened a second store located on the north side of the city. This location means customers on the north and west sides won’t have to make the long drive to the store’s first location on the far east-side. “We’re thrilled,” said Leslie Faltin of the expansion, “because we will be able to offer a more convenient location.” 4 | www.antiguawinds.com
