We had a hui to celebrate wonder project and everyone is and discuss what is happening, and very busy! Thinking about Dramatic play…….. Petone Beach have been focussing on a number of ideas over the year… a key one being the development of dramatic play skills and scripts using ICT equipment. A nice anecdote is of one child who went on a trip to Kelly Tarltons, She began drawing penguins all the time. The addition of digital files on the Kindergarten computer and props to support them meant she could join a group of peers engaged in penguin play and benefit from a developing cooperative playscript on her topic of interest- something she rarely chose before. Nice to see the group using facts gleaned from the clips to extend their script and lovely to see this keen penguin explorer using dramatic play over the next week or so in a range of ways to explore her interest using another of the ‘100 languages!’ How cool to see her sitting on a pretend egg in the ‘snow’ waiting for her penguin partner to come! Petone Kindergarten goes live….

Well done to Petone Kindergarten as you come to the end of the first stage of the 2012 journey looking at communicating the programme with your learning community. You have develop some ideas around the template of your own blog, content, intent and rules. Check it out fellow ECE communicators! http://petonekindergarten.blogspot.co.nz/ What’s a blog??? Short for web log- it’s like a journal to record the programme in action. Recent ‘posts’ are on top of the home page showing us all ‘what’s on top’ in the planned programme. It’s a great way to get comments on what is happening… give it a go! If you don’t know how - the blog has a tab ‘How to comment”.

…. And Ascot Park goes fishing! What a great example of reaching out to families who you don’t see so often and using their expertise to help their child become an expert in the programme ….. With his peers seeking advice on a subject. Upon encouraging a Dad to share video footage of great fishing on a recent trip- our newly acknowledged expert shares his ideas with his peers. The team have a window of information to help him contribute and to plan for the extension of a range of concepts based on his interest…. ‘Te Manawa’ in action!
