ANNEX:Have you had any notable mentors that have guided you through the industry? ML:The best inspirational mentors for me are actually biographies of successful designers, writers and stylists! ANNEX:Why McQueen? ML:Each collection of Lee McQueen is a unique artistic expression. I admired his talent, passion and creativity. The way he was changing a woman’s silhouette each season was unbelievable. For me Alexander McQueen’s fashion designs are absolute pieces of art, which can substitute any Gallery or Museum art pieces. Aside from that, his brand was pure business success. I was interested in gaining experience in a creative and successful brand that is why I pursued McQueen Showroom in New York. ANNEX:What were your responsibilities? ML:The US McQ Team is fairly small thus my responsibilities were varying from daily Wholesale tasks to Showroom assistance. The greatest experience was assisting McQ Market Weeks.
ANNEX:Dress for success- what would you normally wear to the office? ML:Even though Fashion and Comfort usually stands on opposite sides, my life credo is if you feel comfortable and unique in the clothes you put on every morning you are already half way to your success! My favorite look for daily work at the Showroom: Blue jeans, simple top/T and a blazer! Simplicity always works! ANNEX:What was your biggest fear going into the position? How did you overcome this? ML:It is always exciting to start a new career path! Of course I was scared to make some silly mistakes, but if you are confident enough and keen to details you can handle any fears! ANNEX:Can you highlight the fabulous part about working in the industry and the ugly truth about fashion? ML:I think that fashion is the most fast paced environment. You never get bored of monotonous work because it is always different, always exciting. If you have enough knowledge you can actually see through Fashion all Cultural, Political and Economical tendencies in the world! As for ugly truth, everything that changes so fast usually is pretty shallow. ANNEX:What is your next step in the industry? ML:Right now I am trying to get as much experience in Fashion Industry as possible, so in a year from now I can see results of my hard work. ANNEX:Any advice for fashionistas trying to break into the industry? ML:You should know exactly why you want to work in Fashion Industry and be confident enough in order to pursue you career dreams!
