ON THE COVER

SO YOU KNOW

MICHAEL MARTINEZ Executive Director of the Angel Fire Ski Team, Michael Martinez, manages one of the most renowned educational and competitive ski teams in the Southwest. The ski team draws members from Albuquerque, Clovis, Amarillo, and Lubbock as well as local communities. “The kids love our program so much that many come back to coach.”

COMPLIMENTARY NASTAR RACING This winter members will receive complimentary entry into our NASTAR races on the mountain! New this year, members will receive an RFID card, which will allow members to go directly to the starting gates. NASTAR races are set to begin in January on Saturday and Sunday nights, weather permitting.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT All ABout the Girls Logan Orndorff and his girls; wife Kelly and daughters Katie, Corey and Abbey moved to Angel Fire in 2008. When Logan and Kelly decided to retire from their law practice and focus on their girls they concluded that San Diego was not the environment they wanted. They spent their first year of retirement traveling across North America and experiencing everything our continent has to offer. After their travels they wanted to move to a ski community. While researching ski areas, they learned that Moreno Valley

High School was a nationally ranked school. “We could have moved anywhere” said Logan, “we chose Angel Fire because it offered the best educational opportunity for my girls.” Since moving, Katie has graduated and is now on scholarship at UNM, Corey is a National Merit Semifinalist and Abbey has helped lead the Junior High to become the only school in New Mexico to receive an A rating for three straight years. When school is out, the family spends their time rafting, mountain biking, hiking and working in their greenhouse. Logan went on to say, “Beyond the schools, Angel Fire provides the perfect rural mountain life style.”

WHAT’S THE NEWS What’s Up for Winter Winter is well on its way and we hope everyone is excited to welcome in another season of snow and fun. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a trusted expert on weather, and has recently predicted below average temperatures in the South-Central US, and above average precipitation in the Southwest. This sounds like a perfect combination for a snowy white Christmas and successful winter season! OUR MOUNTAIN

The Mountain Operations staff has been busy this summer revamping and revising the terrain parks. One of the new parks will be called Night Rider; it will be located near the middle of Exhibition and contain intermediate jumps and rails. Railyard will be the new beginner park, easily accessed from the bottom portion of Headin’ Home. It will be chock full of smaller and lower features for the aspiring freestyle skier and snowboarder. Our signature summit park, Liberation, will continue to have its large table tops jumps and advanced kink rails, but will add a massive quarterpipe wall. Additionally, the easier features on skier’s right will be expanded. The snow-making team has made significant improvements to the entire snowmaking system, which will lead to more efficient snowmaking throughout the mountain! Angel Fire Resort Ski and Snowboard School will offer a Locals Program again on Wednesday afternoons for anyone looking to improve their ski and snowboard skills. This eight-week program will run Wednesday, January 7, through February 25, and includes personal video movement analysis and a wine and cheese party. All instruction is provided by certified professionals from our Ski and Snowboard School. Please call 575-377-4383 for additional information.

SKI MORE WITH THE AFR PASS This will be the second year in a row that we will be part of the Powder Alliance. This reciprocal ticket program allows Members with skiing benefits three complimentary lift tickets at any of our 12 partner resorts throughout the West, including nearby Crested Butte and our newest partner, Silver Star Mountain in British Columbia, Canada. Blackout dates apply; so be sure to visit powderalliance.com for all the details. Our traditional partner mountains of Ski Apache, Pajarito Mountain, Sipapu Ski Resort, Ski Cooper, and Monarch Mountain will continue to offer three free day passes.

ImPROVE YOUR ALpINE SKILLS Angel Fire Resort is offering ski and snowboard workshops exclusively for members! The workshops are designed to help members improve their technique through instruction and connect members with other members that share a passion for snow. The three hour workshops will be held on, January 14, 21, 28 and February 4, 11, 18 at 1p.m. in a group setting. For $199 you will be able to attend all the workshops, receive video analysis and enjoy an end of the season wine and cheese party. To sign up or to learn more visit the Ski and Snowboard Ticket office located at the Base of the Chile Express.

The Platinum Advantage Beyond the unlimited skiing, VIP parking, VIP lift lines and the VIP locker room, Platinum Members receive a free wax and tune for their skis. Take full advantage of the best membership value in North America and visit the Rental Shop to get your skis ready for a great ski season.
