What were you doing before you signed up for your first course with Matrix?

I worked in children’s services for 17 years. Specifically, I was managing a children’s home. This role had been my focus and expertise, and it was all I had ever known professionally.

Which course did you sign up for first?

I first signed up for Pathway to Aesthetics, which involved completing my foundation in dermal filler and anti-wrinkle treatments.

What made you choose this course? Why did you want to change career?

I chose Pathway to Aesthetics because I had no prior experience in beauty or aesthetics, aside from undergoing treatments myself. I felt the need to train in something new to expand my skillset and explore a different field professionally.

Opting for this course provided me with a range of treatments I could offer, helping me build confidence and paving the way for further progression.

I decided to train in something new because I recognised the importance of diversifying my skillset and exploring new career opportunities. Despite having extensive experience in managing a children’s home, I felt a desire for personal and professional growth. Training in aesthetics offered me the chance to embark on a new journey, expand my knowledge, and develop expertise in a different field. Additionally, I saw it as an opportunity to challenge myself, build confidence and open doors to exciting possibilities in the beauty and aesthetics industry. Overall, I believed that investing in training in something new would not only enhance my career prospects, but also enrich my personal development journey.

After the course, how long was it before you started to earn an income from your new skills?

After completing the course and qualifying, I wasted no time putting my new skills to use.

I began offering treatments in my sister’s treatment room. To attract clients and build up my portfolio, I offered discounts on treatments and even hosted giveaways.

Every bit of income I earned, I diligently saved and reinvested into further training. Because I was earning a steady income, I could afford to invest in advanced training only months after completing my foundation course. This early success motivated me to continue honing my craft and expanding my expertise in the field of aesthetics.

How long did it take before you were earning enough from your new skills that you could give up your old career?

Only a year after completing my foundation and advanced training in aesthetics, I reached a point where I could give up my previous position and focus entirely on building my career in aesthetics. I rented a one-room clinic for myself, learning about renovation in the process!

Where are you and your business now?

As I approach the two-year mark in my aesthetics career, I am proud to say that my business has flourished beyond my expectations. I now own a bustling salon equipped with three treatment rooms, six hairstylists, a sunbed, plus dedicated nail and beauty therapy services. I now have a team of four talented individuals working alongside me, with space for five more! We are able to provide a wide range of services to our valued clients.

In addition to managing the salon, I am also committed to furthering my own education and professional development. Currently, I am in the process of completing my Level 5 qualification, with plans to progress to Level 7 in the near future.
