Firstly, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to you for your support during the past season. Sales continue to rise, and this naturally puts a smile on everyone’s face. More and more shops worldwide are asking for our products, and we are of course incredibly proud of this. The fact that consumers love our products encourages us to continue along our merry way. The catalogue you now have before you is the kick-off for the spring and summer of 2013. We have developed several new products, and hope that these will be a success with both you and your customers. The themes for this season are: cactus, copper and fading colours. This issue of the magazine also includes a report on the Dutch national museum, the Rijksmuseum, and the products we have developed for the museum store. We also provide you with a peek at Hong Kong and China, where we go twice a year to develop and produce our products. When you are in Amsterdam, be sure to spend the night at our former & klevering store, and take the time to visit our two stores, & klevering Zuid and & klevering Centraal. There are several clear trends which will dominate during the new season. Metallics are not only widely used in the current fashions, but are also ever-present in this season’s interior decoration. For us, this trend is a real musthave; take for example the new tea lights with a shiny copper, gold or silver finish.

fake nature
Nature is not a new decorating trend by any means, but it is still going strong for the 2013 collections. We have designed a large series of cacti that are so lifelike, you’ll have a hard time believing they’re not real! The ‘Fake Nature’ trend!

fading
The fading technique has been a trend in fashion for quite some time, but we felt it needed to be translated to tableware. Gorgeous pastels, a soft boundary between colour and ceramics.

The last trend for the summer of 2013 is ‘Blue Wonder’. A variety of sources of inspiration, from 17th century to Delft Blue. Old plates made of new melamine, new takes on old utensils, in short, a blue wonder.

After years of extensive renovations, Holland’s national museum will finally be opening its doors again. The museum’s showpiece, Rembrandt’s The Night Watch, will once again be on display in its rightful place. A large part of the over one million pieces in the collection consists of works by famous 17th century Dutch masters. The stately building (1885) was designed by architect Pierre Cuypers. The Rijksmuseum will get a spacious, ultramodern museum shop, fitted with Corian. In addition to the bestselling standards such
as postcards, erasers and pencils, museum shops that want to stand out must offer something unique. In cooperation with the product developers and curators, & klevering was asked to translate the museum’s rich collection into a dedicated line of products. Museum shops have long since stopped being boring stores without personality. These days, tourists are accustomed to the likes of the beautiful museum shop in the MoMa in New York, and the high-end store at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. No exception,

the Rijksmuseum is not afraid to take on the challenge of making it onto the list of the best five museum shops in the world. & klevering is happy to be able to be a part of achieving this goal. The range of products in the shop will be cool yet luxurious, and will include beautiful jewellery, rugs, and bags, gorgeous tableware, well-designed books, and hip souvenirs. You will find a few examples of this collection on the following pages. Take the painted Gothic and Renaissance elements on the vaulting in the building, for example, that & klevering has used in the ‘Cuypers tableware’ series. And who wouldn’t want
a replica of the lovely Delft Blue Stapelvaas (stackable pot) in their own home? Or a practical tin with the sumptuous flowers of Jan Davidsz. de Heem? For the creative home artists, the Rijksmuseum has opened the website www.rijksstudio.nl. Jurianne was born in 1964 in a huge mediaeval house to artistic parents, and even as a little girl, she already knew that she wanted to become an Inventor of Beautiful Things. She was decorating, drawing, building machines, cutting paper, and making music all day long. After several occupational wanderings, she came ‘home’ in 1991 as one of the first students of the Interior Styling School at Artemis Academy in Amsterdam. This education gave Jurianne her love of styling and her slumbering talent for inventing beautiful things a sure footing. Designs

Jurianne originally designed her very first paper product – the little wishboats – as a kind of ritual to commemorate a dear friend and her mother who had lost their lives in the tsunami of 2004. Together with her sons she decorated paper boats that – floating away on a little clear river – were meant to take away the worst of the sorrow and give them back the joyful memories. It was only four years later that Jurianne decided to turn this beautiful experience into a product: the little wishboats were launched and proved to be a huge success! From that moment on, she designed two paper products a year for her own company, in addition to a lot of products commissioned by others.

All of Jurianne’s paper designs are multipurpose, and may be used as greeting cards, party decorations and interior decorations. An important characteristic of these products is the fact that they invite you to take some action yourself: write a personal text, pop them out, fold them, string them on a cord, etc. Jurianne: “I like to call them ‘Do-It-Yourself lights’! Most of my paper products are also ‘messengers’. They convey wishes and strength, and bring light and joy”. Eco-friendly
For Jurianne, a product is only beautiful if both nature and man have been considered in its development. All the paper designs are produced in Holland and are completely ecofriendly. The paper bears the FSC logo, and is acid- and chlorine-free. The Vega-Fast ink is a printing ink developed in the Netherlands that
is vegetable-oil based. Although they look as though they are made of plastic, the bags are actually produced using corn flour and are thus bio-degradable.

Design process
An important part of the design process is to create the right mood board. It takes Jurianne hours and hours to find images that depict exactly the right feel, colours, patterns, shapes and structures. The mood board is the tangible translation of the ideas that she have
Inspiration
Jurianne is inspired by Scandinavian design, mid-century modern times, nature, my own childhood, nearly-forgotten folklore traditions and old crafts such as weaving, felting, pottery and origami.
