SHOW HIGHLIGHTS ROCCO ENTRANCE INSTALLATION

BY BRUNO BILLIO Rocco, a new installation by Toronto-based artist Bruno Billio, draws inspiration from the ubiquitous, from the simple, yet profound repurposing of everyday objects.

The installation is composed by one hundred and ten individual sculptures wrapped in coloured string to the extent where their original identity is hidden and deformed.

This collaboration between Billio and curator Rodrigo Barriuso is deeply marked by a common interest in the representation of personal and collective memory.

In this special feature, the top contenders for the Canadian National prize are all digitally displayed in stunning detail using SONY 4K display technology. TYPE ARTIST COMPETITION

UNTAPPED EMERGING ARTISTS COMPETITION

The art of typography is as old as the printed word. This year, artists are challenged to create an original work of art based on the interpretation of the theme “TYPE”. This theme will explore text-based art and the relationship between art and the use of text and language. All competition entries will be on display and winners will be selected by a panel of jurors for cash prizes.

Artist Project supports the development of emerging artists in this dedicated feature space. Selected from hundreds of applications, 20 of the country’s best up-and-comingartists are invited to showcase their work for free. Visitors to the show can vote for their favourite UNTAPPED artist who will win a free booth in 2016!

INSTALLATION ZONE More installations than ever at the 2015 show! Explore the ways in which large-scale sculpture and conceptual art expands and transform spaces throughout the show.

Art Battle is live competitive painting where 16 artists selected from the show create the best work they can in 20 minutes. As they work, visitors can move around the easels and closely watch the creative process.

The audience votes for their favourite painting and bids in silent auction to purchase the artwork. Don’t miss this exciting live art tournament!

OCAD U PRESENTS RING BY ALEX BERIAULT OCAD University’s Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is thrilled to partner with Artist Project to present Alex Beriault’s sculpture and performance work, Ring, as part of the Career Launchers program. Ring investigates how one shares the experiences of intimacy and distance and how they are dependent on one another.

Performances take place on Opening Night from 6-9PM, Friday from 4-6PM, Saturday and Sunday from 2-4PM.

1–2PM MIA NIELSEN COLLECT, CURATE, COMMISSION Join Mia Nielsen, curator of Drake Hotel Properties, as she offers insights into building an art collection that is fluid, dynamic and different. Expand your personal style by incorporating memorabilia to create a space that is authentic and nourishing. Mia will explore art placement within the home and how to make art “mobile,” and encourage collectors to look at their art collections in new ways over time. She also discusses what it’s like to commission an artist to create unique works for your home or workplace.

3–4PM ANDREA CARSON BARKER NEW MODELS FOR ART COLLECTING The rise of e-commerce and social networking have brought significant changes to the art market, giving artists the ability to sell their work themselves, often directly to clients. How does this new landscape affect artists? Collectors? A panel of experts hosted by arts writer and co-founder of Artbomb, Andrea Carson Barker, discusses the impact of this model for buying and selling art on the cultural landscape.

At the same time, interest in art collecting is at an all-time high. What is the connection between a collector and a curator? Join Canadian Art associate editor David Balzer as he leads a panel on how beginning collectors can learn from curators to create and build interesting, meaningful collections.

3–4PM ZEV FARBER / DEREK LIDDINGTON A USER’S GUIDE TO LOOKING From performance to painting, this interactive conversation will explore the aesthetic and thematic similarities which connect contemporary art practices.

Zev Farber and Derek Liddington, both of whom are visual artists and instructors at OCAD University, will reveal links between selected works at Artist Project and wider trends seen locally and abroad.
