In 1912 opende modehuis Hirsch de deuren van het nieuw gebouwde ‘Witte paleis’ aan het Leidseplein. Deze en een tweede lantaarn stonden in de grote hal, aan weerszijden van de enorme marmeren trap opgesteld. Beide lantaarns zijn bewaard gebleven en bevinden zich in de collectie van het Joods Historisch Museum. De tweede lamp staat permanent opgesteld in de nieuwe opstelling van het Joods Historisch Museum.
In 1912 the Hirsch fashion house opened the doors of the newly built ‘White Palace’ on Leidseplein to the public. This lantern and a second one stood in the main hall on either side of the enormous marble staircase. Both lanterns have been preserved and are in the collection of the Jewish Historical Museum. The second lamp is on display in the newly refurbished permanent exhibition of the Jewish Historical Museum.
In verschillende museale collecties bevinden zich kledingstukken uit de diverse luxe modehuizen, veelal dameskleding. Heren- en kinderkleding is minder bewaard gebleven, want deze werd langer doorgedragen en vaker ‘opgedragen’. Het Amsterdams Historisch Museum heeft diverse japonnen van het modehuis Hirsch & Cie in haar kostuumcollectie. Speciaal voor de tentoonstelling zijn twee japonnen uit de periode 1910-1914 gerestaureerd en in oude luister hersteld. Deze japonnen zijn voor deze periode uiterst modieus: het silhouet is smal en de stof valt soepel om het lichaam. De nieuwe lage V-hals zorgt in het begin voor veel kritiek, maar is sindsdien niet meer weg te denken uit het modebeeld.
Many museums have clothes, mainly ladieswear, from the various luxurious fashion houses in their collections. Menswear and children’s clothing haven’t been so well preserved, as they were often passed on from person to person and were completely worn out. The costume collection of the Amsterdam Historical Museum includes several gowns from the Hirsch & Cie fashion house. Two gowns from the period 1910-1914 have been restored to their former glory especially for this exhibition. These gowns are extremely fashionable for this period: the silhouette is narrow and the fabric falls supplely over the body. The new, low V neck prompted much criticism at first but since then has become part of the fashion scene.

Deze paarskleurige japon staat afgebeeld in een album van Hirsch & Cie met gouaches en tekeningen van zomermodellen uit 1912. De japon in het album is mosgroen van kleur. Het Album robes d’été ligt in de vitrine opgesteld.
This purple coloured gown is shown in a Hirsch & Cie album of gouaches and drawings of summer designs from 1912. The colour of the gown in the album is moss green. You can see the Album robes d’été in the display case.
