Extra (weekend/after hours) 1 after hours weekday, and 1 after hours weekend, as rostered. They are not at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, but at a different hospital (e.g. RAH, LMH, TQEH). There is 1 Drug session and 1 Alcohol session, as rostered on the timetable. Tips •

Spend at least some time on the ward getting to know the patients, despite the temptation to ‘bail’ and just go home. Start with just small-talking the kids (e.g. chat about sports, movies, etc.). It will take a couple of days (at least) to build sufficient rapport to go into the more psychiatric stuff. Dr Hsu is an amazing man – watch and learn. Keep on top of the ‘adult psychiatry’ study. In particular, work consistently through the list of VIVA questions that are given to everyone at the start of the rotation.

Toronto Notes Each other – there are 4 of us on Boylan Ward so band together to do group study sessions. Boylan Ward has a lot of ‘fun’ activities since it is a children’s ward which you can use innovatively. For example, you can play ‘study’ table tennis (normal table tennis except you have to answer a Study Guide question whenever you lose a point), or ask the nurses for the deck of cards and play ‘study’ poker (bet questions instead of money/chips). The café on Level 2 – the food is fantastic.
