ENTREPRENEURSHIP 101: WHO IS YOUR CUSTOMER? MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE The American Spaces of the U.S. Embassy in Manila launched a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Camp on “Entrepreneurship 101: Who is Your Customer?” offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology through edX. Through this program, over two hundred young entrepreneurs learned innovative entrepreneurial skills to turn that bright ideas into innovative start-ups. Five American Corners, (Baguio,Bacolod, Batac, Dumaguete, and Iloilo) participated in the Entrepreneurship 101 MOOC which ran from September through October. Each MOOC Camp had five meet-ups and the Thomas Jefferson Information Center (TJIC) led two online meet-ups.

U.S. EMBASSY TALKS “U.S. – PHILIPPINES RELATIONS”

On September 23, U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Michael Klecheski spoke to thirty International Studies Students at Ateneo de Davao University American Corner about U.S. – Philippines Relations and how the Philippines and the United States remain as partners, friends and allies.

LABOR DAY PAPERSHOW EXHIBIT AT AMERICAN CORNER BAGUIO On September 4, American Corner Baguio commemorates Labor Day through an exhibit displayed at the lobby of the American Corner. The exhibit showcased the social and economic achievements of American workers.

AMERICAN CORNER ZAMBOANGA CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY On September 8, American Corner Zamboanga conducted a week-long exhibit with the theme “Literacy in a Digital World.” The event is in line with the celebration of International Literacy Day.


CONNECTING CORNERS CHALLENGE: THE ROLE OF GAMES AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY IN COLLABORATIVE AND CREATIVE LEARNING On September 18, Thomas Jefferson Information Center celebrated International Literacy Month by hosting a Connecting Corners Challenge with the topic, "The Role of Games and Digital Technology in Collaborative and Creative Learning." Over 200 educators from five American Corners (Baguio, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Tawi-Tawi, and Zamboanga) joined virtually and learned various digital teaching and learning and digital outreach tools shared by our wonderful English Language Fellows and Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative and YSEALI YOUnified - Philippines alumni.

MAKE-A-THON: DIGITAL STORYTELLING WORKSHOP AT AMERICAN CORNER ILOILO On September 23, U.S. Embassy Counselor for Public Affairs Carolyn Glassman, together with English Language Fellow Sean Edgley and United States Government (USG) Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) alumna Keziah Huelar, engaged with 30 senior high school students on a program called Make-A-Thon: Digital Storytelling Workshop at American Corner Iloilo. During the two-day workshop, the students learned creative writing, photography, videography, and social media literacy skills that aims to promote and share positive stories online, counter hate speech and disinformation, and use writing and social media as tools to make a difference in their community.

REGENERATING LIBRARIES AS COMMUNITY INFORMATION HUBS TALK AT AMERICAN CORNER CAGAYAN DE ORO On September 30, American Corner Cagayan de Oro in partnership with Misamis Oriental Librarians Association conducted a talk on "Regenerating Libraries as Community Information Hubs" with the Ms. Emmabeth Enghog Nanol, Special Collections Assistant, Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, California. 40 librarians were inspired by the speaker's message regarding the important role of libraries in facilitating knowledge creation in communities.


AMERICAN CORNER DUMAGUETE CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE DEAF On September 30, American Corner Dumaguete in partnership with Deaf community in Negros Oriental convenes at the American Corner to celebrate the International Day of the Deaf with the theme: "Full Inclusion with Sign Language." The gathering provides an avenue for the 45 participants to discuss issues and best practices presented in local and international conferences.

EMPOWERMENT FOR PEACE THROUGH INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION (EPIC) WORKSHOP AT AMERICAN CORNER MANILA AND AMERICAN CORNER ZAMBOANGA On September 25 to 30, American Corner Manila and American Corner Zamboanga, in partnership with the Peace Tech, hosted a 5-day workshop with over 80 out-of-school youth. The workshop empowered the participants by providing new ways to use technology to gather and share information.

NATURAL CALAMITIES AND DISASTER AWARENESS SEMINAR AT AMERICAN CORNER COTABATO On September 23 American Corner Cotabato conducted a seminar on “Natural Calamities and Disaster Awareness.” 90 grade school students learned what to do during natural disasters like earthquakes, flood, fire, or other possible event, and what actions to take in its aftermath. The program is part of the American Corner Cotabato Go Green Program.
