HE WORK OF DOCUMENTING, identifying, describing and understanding marine biodiversity (known as taxonomy and systematics) is undertaken primarily in state museums, herbaria, and facilities of CSIRO that maintain research collections. Maintaining and databasing collections is an ongoing task and requires dedicated collection managers and staff - collections do NOT look after themselves!
