ART

A work of art is the result of an artist's response to life. He is more sensitive to the deeper meanings in life than most people. That is why he is an artist. He has spent much time learning the technical means necessary to express in a formal way his responses to life in whatever medium he has chosen - painting, drama, music, poetry, etc. Art is life. When we are faced with a work of art we do not like, perhaps it is an expression of some phase of life we dislike. Both art and life can be pleasant or unpleasant. Both can be gentle or cruel, calm or turbulent, frustrating or soothing.

By instinct, human beings are constantly in search of an ordered existence. Such order is found in the human spirit. But life is usuall,Y chaotic because the spiritual is relegated to the background by immediate demands of the intellectual and emotional. The artist blends the chaotic material of life into an ordered form. He creates this form by a kind of balance between the intellectual, the emotional and the spiritual. Honest experiencing of the arts is a means to peace of mind and peace of soul.
