by Tatum Miller, At Large Director

Hi everyone! My name is Tatum Miller, and I am an At Large director on the AJCA board. I’m from Big Spring, Texas, and I am currently a sophomore at Texas Tech University, studying animal science with a focus on meat science.

Being a part of the junior Chi board has taught me so much, and it has brought me so many new friends. At my very first junior nationals, I remember the junior board members being so welcoming and encouraging to all of the other juniors. Now, I have the privilege of wearing a purple coat, and helping my fellow juniors do what brings us all together, showing cattle.

The community within our Association is so giving and helpful, and I have loved getting to give back to our Association by serving on the junior board. Not only do you get a sense of accomplishment from helping others by being on the board, but you meet amazing friends that share the same hobbies as you!

One of my favorite things about being on the board is helping the younger juniors. Those young showmen are the future of our industry, and it is so important to help them be the best they can be. They may be small, but there is no banner too big for them to chase. Remember juniors, the little ones are always watching you!

Some other duties of being a board member include helping set up for shows, organizing fundraisers and giving new ideas and perspectives to our senior board. I strongly encourage all juniors to run for the board at some point during their junior show career. There are so many opportunities within the board that would look great on resumes no matter what field you choose to go into.

If any junior is interested in joining our board, please feel free to reach out to me or any other board member if you have any questions. I hope to see you all at Junior Nationals in Chickasha, Okla., this summer. Until then, “Let the Good Times Roll!”
