Tonight, we also honor two very special dogs: Hunter, a standard Poodle, who provides therapy to cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point, to hospitalized veterans, and to special needs adults and children living in group homes; and, K-9 Loki, a therapy Rottweiler at the University of Maryland Medical Center, who provided remote therapy sessions during the height of the pandemic and inspired fundraising efforts to create "Hero Healing Kits" for hospital staff.

and as AMC faced unprecedented financial and operational challenges, our donors answered our appeal for assistance without hesitation and with extraordinary generosity. The same is true for your support of this very special Top Dog Gala. As always, the proceeds from this event will enable us to continue providing compassionate and collaborative care to companion animals, train the next generation of veterinary leaders, pursue research that will lead to advances in treatments for animals and humans, and provide the most up-to-date animal health information to pet owners everywhere. On behalf of my fellow Trustees and the staff of AMC, thank you for the many ways your support bolsters our efforts, warms our hearts, inspires our work, and paves the way for our future. TOP DOG HONOREES

AMC’S HEALTHCARE HER OES We are proud to honor AMC’s Healthcare Heroes with the 2020 Top Dog Award, which was created to recognize individuals for their unwavering commitment to AMC as well as their fervent belief in the human-animal bond. Our very own staff members—in every department and at every level of the organization—have been exemplars of both qualities throughout this challenging year.

AMC’S LEGACY OF COMPASSIONATE CARE CONTINUES The AMC staff takes great pride in offering the highest quality care to pets and their families. We hear daily from our grateful clients and they have been particularly appreciative during the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that AMC’s unmatched level of care would not be possible without the generous support of our donors. We are pleased to share some of the clients’ expressions of gratitude with you.

AMC has adapted incredibly well to the COVID-19 environment. All of your staff should be applauded for their efforts to come into work every day and provide the high level of care that AMC is known for. Thank you all!

Loki is a sweet, 3-year-old Rottweiler therapy dog. She was just ten weeks old when Caroline Benzel adopted her, the same week she was accepted into medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Caroline saw something special in Loki’s personality - a patient, gentle puppy that picked up on tricks and social cues faster than almost any therapy dog she had previously worked with. She trained Loki for therapy work over the next 10 months, but little did she know what an impact that Rottie, now known as “Dogtor Loki,” would have on the world. Dressed in her signature outfit – pink hospital scrubs and a custom-made white coat, Dogtor Loki brought joy and comfort to patients and staff throughout the University of Maryland Medical Center. When COVID-19 hit, Caroline decided to use FaceTime to conduct remote therapy dog visits. After noticing the physical effects that masks had on the

NO CONFLICTS. NO AGENDA. NO ACTIVISM. NO ADVOCACY. We cut through the sponsored content, clickbait, and noise to fill a glaring news and information vacuum: Quality journalism focused on dogs.

The Canine Review’s mission is to provide fair, complete, and unvarnished reporting focused on dogs. We believe that caregivers and vendors devoted to treating dog owners and their loved ones professionally and fairly deserve a spotlight – as do those who operate outside those important boundaries.

With enormous gratitude to everyone at AMC for the expertise, care, dedication, & love they gave to my sweet Diego.

“To call him a dog hardly seems to do him justice, though inasmuch as he had 4 legs, a tail, and barked I admit he was, to all outward appearances. But to those of us who knew him well, he was a perfect gentleman.” – HERMIONE G ING OLD
