Chairman’s Message Wishing You the Best in the Year of the Snake! Dearest AmCham Members,

APPY New Year! On behalf of AmCham, I wish all our members good prospects and great achievements in the “Year of the Snake”! In 2012, AmCham Southwest accomplished many remarkable achievements with the great support from the US Consulate, our members and sponsors. 32 new member companies joined us, increasing the total number of member companies to 230. AmCham hosted 54 events in Chengdu and 34 events in Chongqing, including notable large scale events such as the American Independence Day Celebration, The American Business in China celebration, and the Annual General Meeting. AmCham plans to increase the number of hosted events to 100 in 2013. We warmly welcome any suggestions and ideas to make our events and seminars more interesting and meaningful. Among our 32 new member companies are many renowned international companies including Fortune 500 companies such as Dell Chengdu and Dow Chemical China. For the fifth consecutive year, Chengdu will be American enterprises’ first choice for investment among all second tier cities in China. Chongqing will also ranks in the top 3 according to “China’s Business Climate Report” released by AmCham Shanghai with contributions by AmCham Southwest (to be released in February 2013). We believe that the continually improving business environment in Chengdu and Chongqing will be attractive to more American businesses looking to invest in the Southwest region of China.
According to statistics from the Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce, the US has become the largest trading partner, investment source and is emerging as a foreign investment destination of Sichuan Province. Sichuan Province is also America’s largest trading and commercial business partner of western China. In 2012, the US became the largest 4 | 2012 Fourth Issue
trading partner of Sichuan Province. The total imports and exports exceeded the EU by $12.9 billion USD, an increase of 23.3% YoY. Sichuan imported $2.49 billion USD in goods from the US, the majority of which were medical equipment, chemical products and optical instruments. With increased cooperation among both parties, we believe bilateral trade between the US and Sichuan will reach even greater heights. During the Annual General Meeting, held on January 9, AmCham held an election for the Board of Governors for 2013. The new Board and executive team will cooperate in striving to offer continued excellent service and devotion to the success of our members. HE AmCham Southwest Annual General Meeting and New Year Celebration was held on January 9th at the Holiday Inn Chengdu Oriental Plaza. Over 120 guests were in attendance including representatives from top companies operating in Southwest China and officers from the US Consulate in Chengdu. Media coverage included HELLO! Chengdu magazine, Western Finance, Tencent, and Dacheng Finance. The evening commenced with an overview of AmCham activities in 2012 followed by a sumptuous banquet provided by the Oriental Plaza’s hotel management. During dinner, guests were entertained by a riveting performance of Chengdu’s cultural face-changing (Bian Lian) and comedy show. Shortly after the performance, the 2013 Board of Governor candidates were invited to the stage to present themselves and speak to the members about their objectives for the future of AmCham. Subsequently, members voted on the best candidates to serve AmCham for the coming year. Raffle prizes awarded that night included a pair of Hainan Airlines round trip tickets from Beijing to Seattle and two one-night stay vouchers

for the luxurious JinJiang Hotel in Chengdu. The lucky winners were chosen by having their business cards drawn during the raffle. The evening concluded with a group photo of all of the newly nominated Board of Governor members for 2013. Everyone mingled freely with each other before calling it a night. On behalf of AmCham Southwest China, a big thank you goes out to everyone who attended and also the sponsors who made this event possible. We look forward to a successful year in 2013 for all of our members!

Membership Privilege Card Over 60 companies have joined the Membership Privilege Card discount program this year! They will provide discount services in catering, hotel, medical and tourism services to all AmCham Privilege Cardholders.
Corporate Social Responsibility Each year, AmCham cooperates with other Chambers on events to benefit charity. This year AmCham worked with the British, European, and French Chambers to hold the 2012 InterChamber Charity Christmas Party at the Crowne Plaza and raised a total of RMB 128,000 for Project Hope Charity to benefit children’s education in impoverished areas of Sichuan.

Doorknock This year our chairman, Benjamin Wang, joined the delegation from AmCham-Shanghai for a policy lobbying trip to Washington DC. At the capitol, AmCham Southwest lobbied for visa extensions, US export assistance, and greater market access for foreign firms operating in China.
2012 White Paper Each year, AmCham Southwest China cooperates with AmCham China in Beijing and other AmCham headquarters across China to publish the annual White Paper - American Business in China Report. The White Paper is a year-onyear compilation of observations, concerns and recommendations of our collective membership, representing over 1,000 companies. It includes insight and reports on the current business environment in China from local business experts. The main audiences for the White Paper are the Chinese government, the US government
and the business community. The Annual AmCham White Paper is the most important chamber policy initiative of the year and serves as a platform for dialogue and discussions with the Chinese and US governments. This significant publication greatly influences government policy affecting U.S. business in China.
AmCham Southwest China Membership Directory The American Chamber of Commerce in Southwest China released the 2012 Membership Directory at the end of August. This directory is an invaluable resource for our members that links the Chengdu Business community together by providing listings of our member companies, as well as business, government, and community resources, including consulates and key Chinese government offices. 2012 White Paper Release Celebration AmCham Southwest held celebration ceremonies to commemorate the successful release of the annual American Business in China White Paper in Chongqing and Chengdu. White Paper contributors are invited to give presentations about industry issues and their insights on the business environment. More than 80 members participated.

Visa Referral Program We assist our corporate members by utilizing the “AmCham Visa Referral Program” which is offered by the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu exclusively to AmCham Southwest. By the end of 2012 the total number of applications reached 687. There have been 666 approvals and for a passing rate of 97%. In 2011 there were a total of 632 applications. The AmCham Visa Referral Program has come one of the most valuable services to AmCham members
AmChatter Newsletter AmChatter is our quarterly email newsletter which includes all the events and news about our members and information from the Chinese government and the US Consulate. The official Apple Store in Chengdu full of customers on opening day

I
N recent years we’ve witnessed Apple products transform from an obscure symbol of luxury in China to a mainstay in the digital landscape. On an average day in Chengdu you might see hundreds of people clutching iPhones, from the subway to the park to the bank. It’s no longer just a symbol of affluence (although it remains that), but it’s become a practical tool of modern life that Chinese want just as much as anyone else. They want it so badly in fact, that Apple has recently taken major initiatives to court Chinese users. One of these is opening the first official Apple Store in Western China, located in Chengdu. The opening of this Apple store, on Saturday, December 15th, coincides almost perfectly with the release of iPhone 5 in China on the 14th, too. Between all of the recent product releases and successful expansion into China, Apple is almost certainly looking at record-setting fourth quarter revenue. We’ll see if that stabilizes Apple’s recently-tumultuous stock price.

Apple’s Laser-like China Focus Over the last two years Apple has come to not only understand the importance of the Chinese market. PC sales are declining in developed countries while Chinese customers with newfound affluence are buying Apple devices at a furious pace. This growth means that China is now Apple’s second highest-grossing market in the world after the United States. The growth potential for Apple is so great that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has said of China: “The sky is the limit”.
Chinese Developers Warm to Apple Once upon a time, everything in China required Windows. Whether you wanted to chat with friends online or manage your bank account online, China was for years firmly in the Windows camp (and even “boasts” the largest number of Internet Explorer 6 users in the world – an 11 year old operating system incompatible with thousands of modern websites). That is changing as China slowly adopts Apple platforms as they become increasingly popular. Taobao supports Mac OS X for sending funds and Chinese banks are slowly beginning to get the picture.

Chinese Services Baked Into Apple Products Sina’s super-popular Weibo service was added directly into both iOS (the mobile operating system that powers iPhones and iPads) and Mac OS X Mountain Lion by Apple in 2012. Input your username and password once and you’ll receive notifications whenever someone messages you on Weibo, automatically. Check out the “Mail, Contacts, and Calendars” section of the System Preferences on your Mac and Popular Chinese services here’s what you’ll find now: found in iOS options to add accounts for popular Chinese internet services like 163.com, 126.com, QQ Mail, and more.
On Combating Fakes In recent years fake Apple stores have been appearing all across Chengdu, usually selling Shui Huo (水货), or illegally imported, Apple products. How is one to know which Apple Store is the real one? I doubt much confusion will remain after the impressively large and unmistakably authentic Apple Store opens in Chengdu this weekend. One question regarding all the fake Apple stores is what happens to the impostors when Apple is in town? Only time will tell. One thing that I think is a safe bet, though: Apple’s influence in China will continue to accelerate. And at the very least, we’ll now have an official outlet
The new Apple store finds its home in the Mixc mall
Opening Day at Chengdu’s Apple Store I showed up at the Mixc Shopping Mall (designed by noted American architecture firm Callison) on opening day, an overcast Saturday afternoon. Luxury shopping malls are opening in Chengdu at an incredible rate, and this was yet another one that I hadn’t been to before. The mall itself was sparsely populated with holiday shoppers until I found the Apple Store on the ground level. The single-level store was packed with hundreds of customers, the crowd dotted by Apple retail employees wearing bright red shirts. Among the Chinese retail employees were a handful of foreigners working the floor. One I spoke to told me he had been sent to Chengdu for one month from Australia’s flagship location in Sydney. Others had come from other countries to assist in the opening of Western China’s first Apple Store. “The Asia Pacific region is of huge focus to Apple – especially China”, he told me. “There are 14 million people here, it’s incredible. My home, Sydney, is just four million people. This is my first time in China, I’ve never seen anything like this city before.”

How To Handle Chengdu’s Pollution Like a Pro

IGHT now it seems like everyone in China, even Xinhua, is talking about the pollution. Beijing pollution has reached record highs in previous days, a staggering 900 micrograms of particulate matter per square meter. And not just any particulate matter, this is specifically referring to the most hazardous kind, measuring less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter. Fortunately for us, the pollution isn’t quite as severe in Chengdu, but we’ve been breaking our own records recently. The pollution index has gone over 400 this week, which is a rare and unfortunate event for the city. Along with the increased pollution, the subject of air quality has become a topic of discussion in Chengdu like I’ve never seen before. With 14 million residents in the city, few foreigners have the illusion that Chengdu isn’t polluted, but the situation has escalated to perturb even the most laidback locals. On the Chengdu Forum, discussion of air quality has become a recurring theme among concerned residents.The truth is that we’re all looking for ways to cope with the side-effects of Chengdu’s development. With that pursuit in mind, here are five tips on dealing with pollution in the Sichuan capital city. We need them now more than ever before.

#1: Stay Updated on Air Quality The first thing to do is be aware of what the current condition is. Fortunately, it’s easier to do that now than ever. Although Chengdu’s local government reports pollution data daily, information coming from the U.S. Consulate in the South of Chengdu is more accurate and reliable. When the pollution is very bad outside, the US. Consulate will report that, whereas local and regional government will ordinarily report that it’s iPhone AQI app nothing to worry about. For monitoring pollution data on Chengdu, the most convenient method is likely your smartphone. Whether you have an Android phone or an iPhone there are free apps available that report pollution levels daily. I use China Air Pollution Index (which was mentioned among my essential China apps). Beautifully designed and super handy. There’s an Android version available, too. If you don’t have a smartphone or want to see what the Chengdu sky actually looks like, I started taking daily photos and posting them online. There’s also the China Air Quality Index, as well as the Chengdu Environmental Department website which lists pollution in specific areas of the city.

#2: Get an Air Purifier at Home Having one of these in your home can make a huge difference, significantly reducing particulate matter in the air as long as you have your windows closed. If you put one in your bedroom and keep it on while you sleep, you’re improving your daily breathing conditions significantly. When purchasing one for home use, there are two options: air purifiers and ionizers. Air purifiers use HEPA filters which use special, statically charged fibers to collect airborne particulate matter. They’re relatively inexpensive, but they’re essentially a fan pushing air through a filter, which will need to be replaced and can sometimes not eliminate the smallest particulate matter. Ionizers, on the other hand, catch everything airborne by creating a charge which makes particules stick together and fall due to their combined weight. Negative ions are healthy and found in natural environments like mountains and forests, but these devices cost more. Note that a regular part of ionizer maintenance includes sweeping the floor to collect airborne particulate matter which has fallen to the ground. I purchased a Panasonic air filter for my bedroom which had a noticeable effect on air quality within an hour of being first turned on. It’s the same model that’s in the office where I spend my days, except there are over a dozen in the office. The cost of this particular model is about 750 yuan, a Philips AC4025.
#3: Wear a Mask Outside This one’s especially useful if you do any kind of cardiovascular exercise outside. Whether you’re playing tennis, cycling around Chengdu, or jogging along the riverbank, a filtered mask like the Totobobo or Respro makes a big difference. Instead of coughing and having congestion after prolonged exercise, your throat will be clear and you won’t experience the normal sideeffects of exposure to pollution. You can wear these around while walking outside as well, but don’t be surprised if you get looks.

I normally only wear my Respro mask while cycling around Chengdu, but I’ve been compared to Hannibal, Bane, and Sub-Zero. You will get attention. In recent days, I’ve been wearing my Respro mask when walking along crowded streets around rush hour. It filters out much of the car exhaust smell that lingers around major roadways in Chengdu within a few hours of rush hour. By now I hardly even notice the looks I get, and I’m confident that this will become a more common sight for Chengdu pedestrians. You can order the Respro mask on Taobao for about 250 yuan, or buy it locally at the Natooke Bicycle Shop where you can select from different types and colors.
#4: Avoid Major Roads at Rush Hour If you can, stay away from the major roads within an hour or so of rush hour. In Chengdu, that’s from about 4-7pm on Monday through Friday. Pollution aside, you should avoid these roads at that time of day anyway. When I’m not cycling, I take the subway to and from work, which is crowded but still easily beats the congested roads. The roads you’ll want to avoid are first and second ring road as well as Renmin Nan Lu. I work within the Tianfu Software Park and driving from there into Chengdu is an absolute nightmare at rush hour, which can take over an hour. During that hour, wherein you traverse about 12 kilometers, you will inhale a lot of car exhaust. Skip all that noise and take the subway, which will get you within a stones throw of the US Consulate in 20 minutes flat. Second ring road is particularly bad right now as well, due to construction. I would avoid it at all times of day, not just rush hour. 2012 Fourth Issue | 21

#5: Don’t Smoke Cigarettes

Chengdu sure is a friendly city for smokers. It feels like everywhere you go, people are smoking. But as pollution grows, the city becomes less conducive to activities which put your lungs and heart at additional risk. Since these vital organs are already under additional stress due to the sideeffects of Chengdu’s development, give them a rest by not smoking cigarettes. Over the years I’ve seen countless friends relocate to Chengdu and suddenly pick up smoking cigarettes. It’s one of modern China’s traditions that’s woven into business and personal relationships. Cigarettes are cheap, everyone will offer them to you, and it is a part of the bonding ritual between Chinese men. But considering the current state of Chengdu’s air, there’s less room to play games with your health.
Despite the growing severity of China’s air pollution, I feel that due to these recent events, it is becoming an issue of widespread discussion. That’s a good thing. For years I could count the number of discussions I had with Chinese people about air pollution on one hand. Now, over the past two days, everyone is talking about it. Today a colleague asked me, “Why isn’t pollution this bad in the United States?”. Hours later my roommate asked, “Where did you get your pollution mask, and how much was it?”. Hopefully discussions like these, undoubtedly happening all across Chengdu right now, will be a catalyst for real change. In the meantime, picking up good habits and taking a few precautions will go a long way towards enjoying more of what’s great about Chengdu.

HE annual Inter-Chamber Charity Christmas Party was held on Saturday, December 8th, at the Crowne Plaza City Center Hotel Chengdu. The banquet dinner was served in their exclusive grand ballroom. The party was jointly hosted by The American Chamber of Commerce Southwest China, The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, The British Chamber of Commerce Southwest China, and the French Chamber of Commerce in West China. Together, the Chambers throw the grandest Christmas celebration in Chengdu. Over 300 attended this grand event with appearances from: officers of embassies and consulates, chairmen and managers of the Chambers, member companies, and foreign businesspeople. The night was filled with great fun, food, and entertainment. Performances included a live band from Leman International School, Chengdu Harmony International Chorus, classical singer, Janina Simion, cheerleading squad, traditional Chinese performances, a lucky draw, a charity auction for highly valued artwork, a children’s choir, and of course, Santa Claus. All proceeds from the event were donated to Project Hope’s charity to improve children’s education in impoverished areas in Sichuan.

As they entered the Somerset Riverview’s party hall, the guests were surrounded by fun and scary masks, witches, nurses, princesses and vampires. Guests enjoyed cocktails, wine, snacks, and games to music from the live band. It was a fantastic Halloween evening for all as raffle prizes were awarded and guests cheerfully chatted and danced throughout the night.

OVEMBER 17 – On a bright and sunny afternoon at the Oakwood Residence, the highly esteemed Dr. Pete Johnson gave his acclaimed Enterprise Strategy and Innovation lecture. AmCham members from different industries gathered together to enjoy and learn from his vivid and intriguing presentation. The enthusiasm of our members also impressed Dr. Pete Johnson, founder and president of the American Strategic Performance Institute. The lecture was divided into two parts – an informative lecture and a hands-on group discussion and workshop. Dr. Johnson elaborated on several key points such as “how to go from an ‘innovation strategy’ to a ‘working innovation plan’” and “how to create an ‘innovation execution system’ that can drive progress.” The atmosphere of the lecture was casual and relaxed with plenty of laughs and smiles. “Thanks, everyone for spending this wonderful afternoon listening to my lecture instead of drinking afternoon tea or playing golf; you’ve made such a smart choice,” Dr. Johnson remarked to conclude the lecture humorously to much applause and hearty laughs.

Message from the US Consulate 美领馆通知 New Deadline for Use of CITIC Fee Re- 使用中信签证费收据新的截止日期 ceipts
T
he U.S. Embassy and Consulates General in China will be transitioning to a new and improved visa fee collection system for Chinese applicants in mid-March 2013. As a result of this new system, the U.S. visa fee receipts that applicants currently purchase from select CITIC Bank branches will be phased out and will not be valid after March 14, 2013. There will be no fee increase associated with these changes. The U.S. Embassy strongly advises all visa applicants to use all current CITIC fee receipts before they expire on March 14, 2013. After the expiration date, we will be unable to accept receipts issued before March 14 and refunds for expired receipts will not be available. Visa applicants who plan to apply close to or after March 14 should wait to pay their visa fees until after this date. Specific details on this new and more convenient way for applicants to pay their visa fees will be announced closer to the transition date. The implementation of a new system is part of our efforts to continually improve our services for Chinese visa applicants.

hengdu ran successful investment campaigns in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen from December 16-18. Chengdu Municipal Government launched a series of investment campaigns in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, with the theme of “Invest in Chengdu – City of Fortune and Success”. During the campaign, 50 projects were signed with a total investment of over RMB 42.2 billion, which includes Lenovo, OTC, DHL and other well-known companies. At the investment presentation and Project Signing Ceremony in Beijing, 17 projects were signed for a total investment of RMB 18.14

Four projects are in the advanced manufacturing industry with a value of RMB 1.76 billion, eight in the service industry valued at RMB 7.67 billion, and one in modern agriculture with an investment of RMB 0.3 billion. In Shanghai, 17 agreements totaling RMB 12.39 billion were concluded (one from Fortune Global 500). Among these, six are advanced manufacturing projects worth RMB 4.31 billion, eight are in service industry projects totaling up to RMB 6.27 billion and two are in modern agricultural projects worth RMB 1.56 billion.
In Shenzhen, projects with an investment amount of RMB 11.72 billion were signed. Five projects by Fortune Global 500 companies totaling RMB 8.66 billion. In terms of industries, there are 21 advanced manufacturing projects valued at RMB 19.74 billion, 26 service industry projects at RMB 20.65 billion and 3 modern agricultural projects at RMB 1.86 billion.

n 26th Dec., the Department of Trade in Services and Commercial Services of the Ministry of Commerce announced the 2012 ranking list of 11 national software export and innovation bases. In terms of comprehensive strength, Chengdu National Software Export and Innovation Base ranks fourth among the 11 state-level bases in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Dalian, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Xi’an, Hangzhou and Jinan. It is the first time that Chengdu has ranked in the top five. The base has attracted Accenture, DHL, Amazon, Siemens and many other Fortune Global 500 companies.
Direct Flights to London and Paris Opening Soon

n 9th Dec., British Airways announced that a direct flight from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport to London Heathrow will open on Sept. 22, 2013. Using Boeing 777-200 aircraft, British Airways will offer 3 round-trip flights every week. On the same day, Sichuan Airlines expressed their plans to provide non-stop service between Chengdu and Paris, using Airbus A330 aircraft. With the introduction of new routes, there will be 5 to 6 direct flights from Chengdu to Europe and the Middle East in 2013.
Apple Store opens in Chengdu

he first Apple Store in midwest China opened on December 16 in Chengdu. Located in the city’s MIXC, it is the eighth Apple Store in mainland China. After Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, Chengdu became the fourth city in mainland China to greet Apple fans with an official store.
Allianz Global Assistance settles in Tianfu Software Park

n 27th Dec. Allianz Global Assistance, a global leader in travel insurance, assistance and personal services under Allianz Group, a Fortune Global 500 company signed an agreement to establish its second assistance operation center after Beijing in Chengdu Tianfu Software Park. The center will provide services in Chinese, English and Japanese in areas of roadside, travel and medical assistance, invoice processing and reimbursement for service providers. INGAPORE, November 12, 2012 - MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) was awarded the “Best Mobile Application Award” by the Asia Insurance Technology Awards (AITA) 2012 at a distinguished ceremony that was held at the Marina Mandarin Hotel in Singapore on November 9, 2012. The “Best Mobile Application Award” recognizes the insurer who has exhibited true innovation in the use of mobile technology by having developed a unique and compelling application not seen elsewhere in the industry. Award nominations were open to all insurance companies operating in Asia. MetLife’s MetMobile is the technology initiative that beat out the competition to win an award. MetMobile was developed to leverage new mobile capabilities in the market and to capitalize on the proliferation of smart devices in Asia in order to connect to its partners, agents and customers faster and in a more personalized way. MetMobile is already in use in Korea and China, and MetLife is planning on rolling out this initiative to the rest of its operations in Asia.

Smartphones are already popular in the Chinese market, and in 2012 the country is projected to overtake the US as the largest smartphone market in the world. The Humanistic Medical Professional Editors Committee of National Doctors Evaluations Established in Chongqing

n the 1st of December, 2012, the Humanistic Medical Professional Editorial Committee of National Doctor Regular Evaluation was established and the first working conference was convened in Chongqing Red Cross Hospital. This conference was hosted by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA) with co-hosts, Chongqing Red Cross Hospital and Bally Health National Doctor Humanistic Medical Skill Training Base. Gao Guangming, Director of the Operation Division in Hospital Management Department under National Public Health Ministry, Hao Deming, Director of the National Doctor Regular Evaluation Office, Li Mingxia, Director of Training Department under CMCC, with other 27 professional editorial committee members attended this conference. Related officials from NPC of Chongqing, Chongqing Municipal Health Bureau, People’s Government of Chongqing Jiangbei District, and Chongqing Jiangbei Health Bureau were also presented. Sha Qiankun, as one of national senior psychological
consultant, Director of Bally Health National Doctor Humanistic Medical Skill Training Base and an editorial board member of Chongqing Medical Journal under Chongqing Health Information Center, was selected to be one of the 27 professional editorial committee members. During the conference, Director Gao Guangming, represented National Public Health Ministry, delivered a speech to congratulate the establishment of the Humanistic Medical Professional Editorial Committee of National Doctor Regular Evaluation; Director Hao Deming and Li Mingxia introduced the background and related policies of the national doctor regular evaluation on humanistic medicine as well as the national doctor regular evaluation’s professional skills test and projects. The Evaluation Office presented a nameboard to the Humanistic Medical Professional Editorial Committee of National Doctor Regular Evaluation, and also issued certificates to the director, vice director and the committee members. He Jianguo, president of Chongqing Red Cross Hospital (Jiangbei People’s Hospital), made a report about public hospital reform site and improving humanistic medicine training. The establishment of the Humanistic Medical Professional Editorial Committee of National Doctor Regular Evaluation is a milestone in the history of Chinese humanistic medical development. It means that the national unified professional skill evaluation standard and basis have been established from now on, and it is most significant to thoroughly implement humanistic medical spirit, to improve humanistic literacy, to improve the detailed rules and regulations of humanistic medical evaluations. As an important project of CMDA, humanistic medicine has become an important topic among 2 million nationwide doctors after publicy and promotion over many years. It has been necessary to have doctors’ evaluations biennially since the Ministry of Public Health has included human-

istic medicine. By learning humanistic medicine, all the doctors and medical staff can improve their communication skills with patients, as well as professional skills, doctor morality and self-protection on the basis of learning the principle and core value of doctors’ professional spirit. It can also lead patients and their families to be satisfied and build good relationships with doctors. In this case, patients can be treated with better cooperation, which further promotes the development of healthcare and achieve better therapeutic results. As a compulsory public subject, newly added humanistic medicine is worth 20% of the total score. The syllabus and exam database will be provided by the National Evaluation Office, involving related laws and policies, behaviour rules of medical staff, medical psychology, medical theory, and communication skills with patients. Bally Health National Doctor Humanistic Medical Skill Training Base has been in charge of editing rules and policies in the Chinese humanistic medical evaluation textbook since 2008 when it began promoting and conducting development of education of humanistic medicine quality.

会员动态 Member Updates 人文医学作为中国医师协会致力推广的一 个重要命题经过多年的宣传与培养已经深入到 全国200多万医生的心目当中。而卫生部委托 的医师定期考核将人文医学纳入其中，也说明 了人文医学是我国医师两年一次的定期考核一 个重要特色和内容。以人文医学为切入点，使 广大医师和相关工作人员在了解医师职业精神 的普遍原则和核心价值的基础上，学习和谐的 医患沟通技巧、提高职业素养、增强人文医学 执业技能、规范医师职业道德、提高自我保护 能力，建立让患者、家属、医生三方都满意的 和谐医患关系。能够更好地使患者配合诊疗， 从而获得更好的医疗效果并且推动医疗卫生事 业的健康发展。新增的人文医学专业作为必考 公共科目，比重占到20%，人文医学考纲题 库由全国考核办负责提供，其内容包括相关法 律法规，卫生部医务人员行为规范、医学心理 学、医学理论学和医患沟通技巧等，巴里菲尔 斯从2008年开始推广贯彻人文医学素质的培 养与教育，取得了一定的成绩，目前，将承担 中国第一本人文医学定期考核教材的法律法规 方面的内容。
