The Amazonian people use to make a rudimentary soap with Babassu for treating eczema and itchy, dry and inflamed skin. It contains flavonoid glycosides, well known for their antioxidant effect as well as strengthening your hair. Bacuri (Platonia insignis) fruit was first reported in the European scientific literature in 1614. Bacuri, in Tupi, means "that which falls as soon as ripe" - and this is why the fruit is harvested only when it’s shed naturally from the tree. Each fruit has one to five brown seeds from where oil and meal protein can be extracted. This oil, almost black in color, is considered a "miracle oil" in the Amazon region and is used as an anti-inflammatory for arthritis, as well as for treating skin diseases such as herpes and eczema. The presence of palmitoleic, a fatty acid, gives Bacuri butter its rich, emollient and moisturizing properties. The oil is also rich in palmitic and oleic fatty acids, as well as in proteins, lipids, glycerides, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamins A and B, niacin and amino acids lysine, methionine and threonine. The Buriti fruit is oval, like a hen's egg, measures approximately 2 to 3 in in diameter and weighs 1 ½ to 2 oz. Buriti oil, extracted from the edible pulp, is one of the richest sources of pro-vitamin A (β-carotene) among all known fruits. The oil is widely used by the natives as a way to alleviate sunburn. Beta-carotene and its breakdown product, vitamin A, collectively referred as carotenoids, are two of the most important antioxidants because it protects the skin against the damaging effects of sunlight. It also neutralizes free radicals, repairing the damage caused by lack of moisture in sunexposed skin, fostering the production of collagen and elastin, keys for youthful, glowing skin.

Botanists believe that Cacau (Theobroma cacao) is originated from the headwaters of the Amazon River. Theobroma is derived from Greek for "the food of the gods". Copaíba( Copaífera Officinalis) oil, or balsam, is extracted from the Copaíba tree where the oleoresin accumulates in cavities within the tree trunk. It is harvested drilling holes into the tree and collecting the resin that drips out.

Research shows that copaiba has diuretic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, disinfectant and stimulant properties and is the best known natural source of caryophyllene, a well known plant chemical that has documented strong anti-inflammatory effects. The tree is very common in the Brazilian Amazon. The small, round, brightred fruit grows in clusters and splits in two parts from where a black seed surrounded by a white pulp appears which reminds an open eye.

Considered one of the richest sources of caffeine, yielding twice as much caffeine as coffee beans, the fruit also contains large quantities of alkaloids, terpenes, flavonoids, starch, proteins, sugars, starch, tannin, potassium, phosphorus, iron, calcium, thiamine and vitamin A. Guaraná has been known worldwide as a natural remedy for all sorts of maladies due to its stimulant, analgesic, antibacterial, antioxidant and vasodilator properties among others.

Murumuru butter works beneath the skin’s surface to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity. The Patauá (Oenocarpus bataua) palm, remarkably rich in α-tocopherol, is widely used throughout the Amazon basin. Indigenous peoples have been using the Patauá oil for centuries. This palm has many uses in indigenous medicine. Pure or mixed with honey and lemon Patauá oil is used for treating minor bronchial and pulmonary infections. The light green/yellow oil extracted from the fruit’s pulp and its kernel by crushing and pressing, has a chemical composition very similar to that of olive oil, making the product being know as the olive oil of the rainforest. Patauá oil contains a great amount of Omega 3 and 6 amino acids, which actively regenerate the skin cells, bringing rapid curative effect to dry, aged and cracked skin. It also fortifies the scalp and restores the shine of the hair.

Pracaxi or Pracachy(Pentaclethra filamentosa) is an extraordinary oil with several cosmetic, therapeutic and medicinal properties. The oil, with strong antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic, anti hemorrhagic and insecticidal properties extracted from the pea pod of the Pracaxi tree has been used for generations of Amazonian people to effectively treat erysipelas. Rosa Mosqueta (Rosehip)(Rosa canina) is a dense deciduous shrub with the stems bearing numerous hooked prickles. The foliage, which grows wild in the southern Andes, has a strong apple-like fragrance. The flowers are pink with a white base and yellow stamens. They bloom from late spring to mid summer. The fruit contains a high concentration of Retinol (Vitamin A) and Vitamin C. The oil has been used for a variety of skin disorders including scars from acne, burns and surgery, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and age spots. It’s also good for hyper-pigmentation, smoothing wrinkles, repairing sun damage and hyper-pigmentation. Rosehip seed’s oil is also an excellent moisturizer.

There are two species of Tucumã trees in the Amazon: Tucumã-do-Pará (Astrocaryum vulgare) and the Tucumã-do-Amazonas (Astrocaryum tucuma). Both grow fruits with an orange oily pulp that yields 14% to 16% oil when it is raw and a kernel from which a white oil is extracted. The fruit, consumed raw or in the form of a juice called "wine of tucumã,” or still mixed with water or made into an ice cream, is very nutritious containing one of the highest concentrations of provitamin A beta-carotene (52 milligrams per 100 g pulp) in any fruit, equaling the value found in the pulp of the buriti and higher than that of beta carotene found in carrots is (6.6 milligrams/100 g pulp). The butter of Tucumã is quickly absorbed by the skin leaving it velvety and smooth.

Ucuúba (Virola sebifera) butter has been used by the Amazonian people for treating severe skin disorders. The nourishing Ucuúba butter contains 42,2% in palmitic and oleic acids, which are able to penetrate the deep layers of the skin. It also contains small amounts of myristic acids and is gentle enough for dry, sensitive or damaged skin. Iron and vitamin C are some other ingredients.
