No es fácil analizar el paisaje cultural actual de la ciudad de Concepción. Al intentar hacerlo, muchas ideas se enfrentan creando a su pasar nuevos cuestionamientos que a veces acaban con una concepción absolutamente negativa que te hace pensar en la migración, mientras que otras se termina de reflexionar en el extremo positivo de un Concepción cargado de energías y nuevas generaciones que darán un giro a lo que nos falta actualmente. Porque siempre se parte desde la idea que algo falta. Si esta vez en un impulso de humildad pensamos en lo que sobra…

En Concepción sobran las galerías, el circuito artístico reconocible se hartó de las muestras y no acude a ellas ni como expositor ni como público, es que todos queremos espacios nuevos, un lugar innovador donde se pueda cambiar el techo por el suelo. El arte penquista es tan revolucionario que los espacios actuales no dan a basto, por eso las calles y los cafés están llenos de cultura. Además, las galerías son para vender y como nadie se interesa en comprar, están de más.

En Concepción sobran los talleres de arte, sin negar el servicio que brindan a un gran sector de la sociedad, en muchos de éstos se sigue fomentando una concepción del arte que debemos ampliar. Porque en Concepción todo el mundo pinta, y para que vamos a hablar del grabado, con todo el peso que tiene en la octava región, todos ansían hacer girar una prensa. Con que objetivo, a nadie le importa, como está de moda que la tercera edad sea activa y que los niños desarrollen su creatividad, no se necesita más.

En la ciudad de concepción además sobran los artistas, hay tantos, que muchos generosamente se quedan en sus casas produciendo solos y para ellos mismos. Tal parece que no hay necesidad de agruparse y trabajar en conjunto, unir fuerzas y formar equipos multidisciplinares para mejorar las condiciones tanto del arte local como de los artistas. Similar situación sucede con los estudiantes, son tamaña cantidad que tal parece, la mejor opción es quedarse tomando en el pasto.

Lo que también sobran, son las ideas y las reuniones de trabajo… Por montón. Llega a transformarse en un gusto semanal reunirse con un grupo de personas a hablar y seguir hablando hasta la madrugada de todo lo que se va a hacer y de qué modo, en fin, el momento ideal para desahogase y dar a conocer todos tus sueños al círculo de artistas que se pierde navegando en un mar de creatividad que por supuesto, nadie concretará.

En Concepción sobran los panoramas culturales, por eso todos se pelean el público, sobran los proyectos culturales, por eso hay muchos de los cuales no nos alcanzamos a enterar, sobra la educación artística… A tal modo que da lo mismo quien la enseñe y como la enseñe, si es que la llega a enseñar, si está capacitado, si es ético. A simple vista hay tanto, que ya nada importa.

Por lo general es más simple destruir que construir, sacar que añadir, por lo tanto esta es una de esas reflexiones positivas, en cuanto al arte penquista… menos es más.

Apegos y desapegos de una concepción Constanza Pino

Esta dualidad permanente entre lo que éramos y lo que somos que vive la Concepción cultural, se enraíza en las características que se le atribuyeron antes, cuando se supone que sí era cultural y era un foco de atracción para artistas e intelectuales. La otra parte es la actualidad, un momento en que, dicen, Concepción ha perdido su renombre en esta materia. Y es probable que lo haya perdido entre el ir y venir de los años, entre tanto manoseo de los recuerdos y las circunstancias que no le permitieron a los grandes de ayer permanecer sólo en su tiempo y en su espacio. Ellos fueron obligados a trascender, a ser más que una referencia, una obligación. ¿Cómo no perder el presente cuando se vive del pasado? Por una parte, insistimos en mantener en la cúspide a aquellos artistas que ya forjaron su legado y le dieron a la ciudad la oportunidad de adquirir renombre junto a ellos. Por el otro, somos incapaces de percibir el presente y atesorar los nuevos valores que están apareciendo y que, desde nuevas o viejas perspectivas, están ampliando nuestra oportunidad de que sigamos siendo reconocidos como ciudad cultural sin que queramos aceptarlo.

Añoramos los estereotipos que no siempre se pueden dar. Soñamos con poetas mirando las estrellas, que se ven poco por estos lados. Queremos escuchar un violinista junto al río Sena, pero no nos atrevemos a oír un trombe junto al Biobío. Estamos rodeados de ideas y modos de expresión, pero miramos por encima de sus hombros hacia adelante o nos volteamos para mirar atrás e ilusionarnos con que, lo que ya fue, aún permanece allí.

Peor aún, desgastamos el futuro antes que haya llegado, poniendo nuestras expectativas en un tiempo indeterminado, cosa de que los días alcancen para pedir lo suficiente al cielo nos escuche para que lo que nos propusimos se cumpla. Esperamos en lugar de aceptar la riqueza que pasa frente a nuestros ojos, en cada nueva pintura, en cada nueva danza, en cada nueva expresión.

Es hora de que esta Concepción que no concibe nada, se desapegue de lo que fue y se permita ser lo que es hoy.

CONCEPCIÓN CON Ce redonda Zona de limbos patrimoniales La palabra Concepción, como todos debiéramos saber, proviene del verbo concebir y sus connotaciones: idear, imaginar, dar a luz.

Concepción es una ciudad universitaria que cuenta con varios paseos para peatones, y desde uno de ellos brotan postes coronados por grandes tulipas de tela que se abren al cielo cambiando de colores como colas de Pavo real. Cuando cae la tarde, cuando el sinsentido aprieta, estos adornos se iluminan para que los penquistas saquen a pasear sus deseos y frustraciones en un ambiente más acogedor, para que sus mentes se disipen -papas fritas en mano- ante los halos de las vidrieras y ya, mansos y confiados, suban por las bandas mecánicas que les transportarán hasta los grandes salones de venta.

Concepción, por ser ciudad universitaria, tuvo un periódico bien importante, un diario que en la portada de su cuerpo “Reportajes” del domingo 18 de Marzo, destaca dos noticias que resultan demoledoras desde el punto de vista del patrimonio urbano y de la memoria espiritual de la ciudad.

La primera de ellas nos comunica que tras 113 años de funcionamiento deberá cerrar para siempre el colegio de la Inmaculada Concepción, prestigioso establecimiento que se halla ubicado en pleno centro de la ciudad.

La segunda, pegadita a la primera, anota que luego de sesenta años de bohemia, cierra sus portones la “Tía Olga”, prostíbulo cuya reputación alcanzó nivel internacional; así lo atestiguan numerosas delegaciones extranjeras, tanto navales como intelectuales, que llegaron hasta él. Tan importante era, que hasta los animadores de la Teletón esperaban expectantes el cheque que religiosamente enviaba cada año la querida Tía. Como ese local se encontraba sumergida en una ciudad repleta de universidades, no es de extrañar que su trabajadora más famosa y perdurable sea Alicia Cuevas, la morena muchacha que posó para representar América Latina en el mural de la Casa del Arte.

Julio Escámez, acaso el artista visual más importante de Concepción, decía que una ciudad no se conoce bien hasta cuando se han visitado sus tres puntos principales: su catedral, su cementerio y sus prostíbulos; triángulo espiritual que contesta preguntas sobre su sentido de trascendencia, el nivel de prosperidad o miseria, y finalmente cómo una comunidad enfrenta la muerte. En ese sentido Concepción es una ciudad universitaria que está al día; porque además de las tulipas reales que irisan sus paseos, ha superado la etapa de los prostíbulos que hieden a humo de tabaco y sahumerio; estos ya han sido reemplazados - como en toda urbe moderna - por avisos de prensa, o teléfonos celulares que conducen a lugares mucho más expeditos y privados.

Por el lado del lugar destinado a los muertos, la existencia de su antiguo y romántico cementerio, su Campo Santo, tiende también ha ser reemplazado por los “Parques del Recuerdo”, verdes planicies de olvido o no lugares que se tienden solícitos en vecindad a Pubs y moteles, todo una metáfora urbana del circuito vidamuerte.

En fin, Concepción es una Ciudad Universitaria tan internacional, que hasta cuenta con un cuerpo de Punks que patrullan y orinan sus veredas y portales.

Persiste aún su catedral acompañada de gaviotas que cantan una desplazada desolación marinera.

Concepción es una ciudad universitaria que cuenta con una Plaza de Armas, entre cuyos tilos se sienta un anciano mirando cómo una paloma coja picotea una bolsa vacía.

CONCEPCIÓN UN MITO QUE DUERME La catalepsia de un emblema que sedujo con pantalones cortos.

Muchos creímos que la posibilidad de dar nuevos aíres al pasado mítico y sobredimensionado era una realidad desde la diversidad de expresiones y la inquietud de distintos jóvenes y agrupaciones que sobre desafíos asociados proyectaban una base concreta sobre la que edificar un nuevo espacio.

Mucho se especuló sobre el liderazgo en danza desde el trabajo siempre controversial de las distintas compañías, desde la referencia del Calaucán; de las promesas del teatro siempre encadenado a las disputas de la herencia a un TUC, con un intermitente liderazgo del Oráculo; con unas artes visuales fragmentadas por la transformación de los lenguajes desde las referencias sagradas de la tradición y la institución hacia la irreverencia y provocación de las nuevas manifestaciones, para luego encontrarse con nuevas pugnas desde una asociatividad permeada a las virulencias personalistas. Finalmente, con la música desde sus distintas tendencias con una anarquía fecunda y prolífica hasta el presente, y por otra parte la literatura con el ocaso de los grandes y con una diversidad de talentos aún desconocidos.

En un momento se pensó que la gestión cultural sería la panacea a los sueños de muchos creadores por tratar de superar su autogestión y modernizar la forma de administrar sus recursos. En su momento un claro ejemplo de aquello fue el éxito de Gestión Urbana, sin embargo su proyección al igual que la de esta área no logró superar las vayas del mercado.

Hoy vemos que el liderazgo e impulso de los emblemáticos colectivos artísticos ha sido desplazado por un protagonismo de las instituciones oficiales. Organismos que ante la falta de un dinamismo en la demanda artística y ante los resabios de la catástrofe del 2010 han optado por dormirse en la rutina, el bajo costo y la ausencia de riesgos, estableciéndose acciones basadas en la tradición o en la mera lógica del mercado.

A la fecha el sueño por obtener un liderazgo ha dormido por una variedad de factores, pero sin lugar a dudas un mínimo común denominador de esta ecuación es la falta de lideres activos que proyecten y faciliten la gestión de nuevas propuestas, a partir de los esfuerzos personales y de algunas agrupaciones que han puesto sus capacidades en la generación de nuevas instancias para la escena local.

Hoy se requiere aglutinar a los creadores y gestores en un proyecto colectivo que nos despierte y aliente a recuperar el derecho de construir una nueva escena cultural. Reconociendo que los esfuerzos realizados recientemente no pueden desaparecer en el olvido.

La ciudad de Concepción vive en la fantasía histórica de haber sido, en algún momento, la perla cultural del sur de Chile, pero hoy día es muy difícil señalar con precisión cuándo sucedió. A estas alturas poco importa, porque esa idea se ha anclado en una época que podríamos señalar como tiempo mítico y que para nuestra realidad no es más que parte de relatos, muchas veces chauvinistas, que han terminado por constituir una especie de archivo ficcional-histórico de la pencopolitania. Para los que nos hemos dedicado a estas labores tan poco prácticas como lo es el arte, vivimos (por un tiempo… es lo deseable) sumergidos en la idea romántica de que toda época pasada fue mejor. Cada vez que hurgábamos en el pasado del arte veíamos, más que trabajos, grandes hazañas de artistas de diferentes disciplinas que en medio de la adversidad se alzaban como portadores de una misión casi heroica (quizás eso sea lo más real, el heroísmo… el sino del héroe), triunfantes a pesar de todo y de todos, superando el drama, el desprecio y la indiferencia.

Y terminábamos por generalizar todos los relatos en uno solo conformando una narrativa sinecdóquica que se constituía como real, espiritualizando el pasado.

Es por esta razón, probablemente, que considerábamos injusta y con tan poco glamour la época que nos tocó sufrir (en este caso fue así… la dictadura) y sólo después de un tiempo (madurez le llaman algunos), nos dimos cuenta que esta configuración inhóspita del paisaje y del tiempo en la que nos encontrábamos, era realmente una tremenda oportunidad, porque tenía una potencia insospechada en el desmantelamiento y producción de significados, y terminamos cayendo exactamente en el mismo campo semántico de los sueños de juventud… lo romántico, espiritualizando el presente. Fue ya de grandes (viejos) que terminamos aceptando lo evidente, que la constitución de la obra está brutalmente configurada por las condiciones objetivas en las que se produce y que nadie puede escapar de ello, generando una desjerarquización de valor con respecto a las condiciones, es decir, no hay buenas o malas, sólo hay.

Señalo todo esto porque es probable que en un futuro no muy lejano podrá recordarse este momento, en la ciudad de Concepción, como otra situación romántica y excepcional, el recuerdo llevará incrustado el perfume de un viaje a un momento histórico donde «todas las calles de la urbe eran invadidas por los artistas de la performance… del arte acción». Ahora bien, no se puede soslayar el hecho de que la performance se ha abierto paso en las avenidas de esta ciudad, gracias a años de trabajo silencioso por parte de algunos artistas que han hecho incluso que la región hoy en día se encuentre entre las que tienen mayor «dinamismo» (perdón por la palabra) en el arte acción de Chile. Y es extraño, porque Concepción es una ciudad conservadora que ha confiado históricamente en el «Arte» sólo cuando éste se encuentra institucionalizado, normado o reducido al «cubo blanco». En cambio el modo de trabajo que desarrolla acá la performance está muy lejos de aquello, porque se encuentra ajena de las fauces de la institucionalización (hasta ahora), erguiéndose como un quiltro rabioso e incontrolable que juega un rol de resistencia total frente a los posibles guiños y maromas del mercado. Si bien esto posee un triple mérito (dedicarse al arte… a la performance… en Concepción) se encuentra muy lejos del sueño romántico y chauvinista, muy por el contrario ha surgido en base de sacrificios extremos, incomprensiones, desde la periferia, lejos del glamour, en medio de tanta carencia que muchas veces ha hecho pensar que «todo pasado fue mejor». * Fotografía de Marcelo Pavés / Performance: «Chile amasa su pan», artista: Natacha de Cortillas. Cuerpo y Cultura en el Arte Actual de Concepción Pablo Angulo Vera Dos de los principales espacios donde se manifiestan más claramente los dispositivos de dominación y control que el capital impone son el cuerpo y la ciudad. El poder cartografía las zonas de circulación de los cuerpos en la ciudad, creando circuitos de desplazamiento acorde a sus intereses. Concepción en particular se vive como una ciudad industrial, en el sentido que los recorridos urbanos van desde las comunas dormitorio hasta los lugares de trabajo, comercio y tramitación civil, dejando de lado lugares de esparcimiento público y de una escena turística consolidada. Esto se hace evidente en la falta de locomoción colectiva más allá de la medianoche, cosa que no ocurre en otras ciudades del país. Los procesos de normalización y disciplinamiento que desde siempre han acompañado los intentos de modernización de la ciudad han determinado los flujos circulatorios como también las mecánicas corporales de presentación personal y de movimiento.

El arte de acción penquista de las últimas décadas se ha encargado de fracturar esos modelos de flujo y de corporalidad, interponiendo a lo normado el gesto crítico y rebelde del cuerpo resignificado mediante una serie de estrategias de desestructuración del espacio y el cuerpo impuesto. El trabajo de Guillermo Moscoso y Alperoa particularmente, pero también de Adriana Ravanal, Jorge Grandón y Luis Almendra, entre otros, irrumpen e interrumpen el ritmo de la ciudad y la mirada de los transeúntes/ espectadores. Cada movimiento y recorrido realizado por el arte de acción penquista resignifica y recartografía la ciudad, la deconstruye y reconstruye en una dinámica de apropiación/ expropiación permanente.

La ciudad travestida en carne y sangre del arte, modifica por un instante y para siempre su ritmo circulatorio, respiratorio, ve alterada su corteza cerebral, su sistema nervioso central. Se desplaza por un instante infinito en un estado alterado de conciencia, gira al revés, se desata de su estado de momificación cotidiana. En el recorrido de área Sucia (Alter Ego de Moscoso) o en el discurrir a torso desnudo de Alperoa (Álvaro Pereda) los espacios simbólicos de la ciudad van tomando una nueva significación, el eriazo y el desnudo que estas acciones encarnan desmontan el entramado comercial de la ciudad y la transforman en espacio político, de protesta y de agitación de los humores (fluidos) escondidos bajo su simulacro de orden permanente.

Cultura por roce o Concepción una CIUDAD culta RAUL LABBE Al entrar a las oficinas del Club Mediterranee escuché al portero del edificio tuteando al gerente general de la multinacional.

Tiempo después yo conversaba con una joven en las oficinas del Club y me enteré que era hija de aquel portero y que hacía un post grado en literatura medieval.

Eso me llamaba la atención y caminando por Barcelona me topé en la calle con un mural original de Picasso y con un barrendero que escuchaba jazz.

Aquella tarde de sábado, un amigo me sorprendió con sus libros de Miguel Hernandez. De quien reconocí sus rimas de haber escuchado a Serrat que cantaba sus versos.

Yo creo que a Franco lo destruyo el arte. Para mí, la poesía fue más destructora que la muerte y cuando ésta se hizo música barrió con la dictadura como hojas de otoño.

Es innegable el papel democratizador de la imprenta y, hasta ahora, es Internet. Algunos aborrecen a Picasso y otros aman a Monet sin haber visto, de ellos, jamás un original. La antigua realidad murió, viva la nueva realidad.

Y ahora freno la divagación para decir que yo asumo la cultura como el “acerbo de conocimientos que se transmiten popularmente” y que producen una manera de actuar que se multiplica.

Y el arte es un importante factor creador de cultura. Porque el arte, para existir, apela a los sentidos y actúa en la profundidad de los sentimiento humanos Lo artístico genera un comportamiento inmediatamente diferente al existente antes de ser percibido, y es unitivo. Une a quien lo percibe con un otro perceptor y ambos comparten su experiencia.

En Barcelona aquel portero tenía acceso a revistas y periódicos, el basurero recogía de la calle música docta, el niños sabía donde se generó su historia, esa chica cruzaba diariamente portales medievales. Los bares se llenaban con música propia... a esto es lo que yo llamo la cultura por roce, vas caminando y zas chocas con la cultura.

Nuestra gente prácticamente no puede comprar periódicos ni revistas. La música de violín sacada de las calles. Las ruinas que vemos son amorfas y sucias. El barrendero no barre las hojas de un Monet.

La cultura en nuestra ciudad no tiene amplificación. No se observan muchas esculturas, no hay murales de calidad en las calles, no hay un museo de arte moderno, los conciertos atractivos se limitan al verano en el foro, nadie recuerda donde vivía Aníbal Pinto…

La Ranchera, la cumbia villera, la Opera, son arte, no lo neguemos. La impresión que me dejan la transmito, me une a otros, y se va creando una cultura extraña, pero propia.

Atraviesa territorios, gentes y fronteras.

El autobús, que emite a volumen estridente lo que una radio le entrega, es un buen transmisor de cultura…podría usarse mejor. Las murallas abiertas al peatón son un magnifico mural, se aprovechan excepcionalmente…Cultura..CULTURA por roce…nos falta en Conce. Eso, y no cultura intramuros. Concepción…una ciudad culta

Sí, pero nunca tanto

Siempre se habla que Concepción es una ciudad cultural. Capital para muchos. Sin embargo, en la realidad si bien existe un movimiento constante, hay muchos elementos que permiten asegurar que falta mucho para apropiarse de ese mito o denominación como corresponde.

La ciudad no cuenta con espacios adecuados para que los exponentes locales, de las más variadas disciplinas, desarrollen su arte y puedan generar ingresos económicos que les permitan mantenerse y seguir desarrollando propuestas. Un ejemplo es que en ámbitos como la danza, el teatro y las artes visuales realizan montajes en las propias calles penquistas, lo que también les permite visibilizar su trabajo y llegar de un modo más directo a la comunidad. El proyecto del Teatro Regional del Bío Bío ayudaría en parte a superar esta carencia, pero habrá que ver cuando se concrete finalmente cuál será el alcance de la participación de los creadores en el recinto.

Siempre se valora de una forma distinta lo que viene de afuera, más que apreciar el trabajo que se hace en la ciudad y en la región. Buena parte del público sí está dispuesto a pagar una cantidad de dinero importante por una entrada para una obra de teatro o un espectáculo que proviene de otras latitudes, pero al momento de hacerlo para presenciar un trabajo hecho en Concepción no hay la misma disposición pues se tiene la idea preconcebida -en muchos casos- que los proyectos que se realizan son de una calidad inferior a los de otras latitudes.

Mitos como el TUC o la denominación de Concepción como capital del rock penquista, si bien pueden contribuir a generar una identidad o expectativas mayores de lo que pasa en la ciudad, ratifican que tiene un potencial artístico único, que también se extiende a otras disciplinas como las artes visuales y la literatura. Y pese a que existen dificultades para su desarrollo como las antes mencionadas, es también resorte de los propios creadores -como muchos lo realizan- generar diferentes instancias que permitan dar a conocer su trabajo y a la vez potenciar la escena penquista en las diversas expresiones del arte e ir alimentando esa idea.

Es cosa de palpar el respeto que sienten músicos de todo el resto del país por los surgidos en Concepción, algo que no es gratuito y generaciones de nombres, pasando por Emociones Clandestinas, Santos Dumont, Los Tres, Los Bunkers, Julius Popper y Julia Smith, se han encargado de ir renovando y potenciando esa imagen. Como también lo hace en su campo la Orquesta Sinfónica de la UdeC, sin dudas una de las mejores agrupaciones que existe en Chile.

Por ello, mucho de mito puede decirse que tiene la percepción de Concepción como una ciudad cultural potente, sólida y consolidada. El potencial está, pero cada día hay que ir generando las oportunidades, tanto de sus propios protagonistas como del mundo público y privado, para que la brecha entre realidad y fantasía sea cada día más corta.

HABLAR DE/DESDE CONCEPCIÓN Es difícil hablar desde lo local, cuando no existe esa distancia del visitante. También, porque Concepción es una ciudad como muchas, con sus márgenes, sus centros y todos los estratos intermedios. Por ello, es difícil hablar de esta ciudad, sin recurrir a los tópicos universales o los hitos de la historia oficial.

Definitivamente, la noción de “sismo” es la más conveniente, debido justamente a este carácter de “falla geológica” que recae sobre la cuenca del Bío-bío. Puesto que es la única condición que atraviesa este territorio en el imaginario nacional y que le otorga cierta peculiaridad.

Sin embargo, propongo aquí, una noción residual, de la que arrancan las lecturas que podemos hacer de la cultura local; la noción de “cachureo”.

La mayoría de los penquistas hemos visitado alguna vez el museo Hualpen, la casa de Pedro del Río Zañartu y hemos admirado las colecciones que formó este viajero, en busca de sanación a los males que aquejaban su alma de hombre a quien la vida o más bien la muerte separó para siempre de sus mujeres amadas (su esposa y su hija).

Esas colecciones están “preñadas” de una cierta diégesis del relato penquista, para no hablar de identidad, que a mi parecer puede echar luces en el proceso de contestar a la pregunta sobre la cultura de esta zona.

Las colecciones de Pedro del Río, constituyen lo que Barthes llamaría grado cero de la acumulación. No hay un criterio museológico, más bien hablamos de una cierta familiaridad de los objetos, pero que actúa a nivel del gesto. Las cosas de la colección, pertenecen a diferentes culturas y pero han sido desposeídas de su contexto, de su función transitiva. Es un museo de instantes, y el metarrelatos cultural que los rodea es el producto de esta operación. Apreciamos estos objetos, porque respetan nuestra propia historia, sin pedanterías grandilocuentes. Pedro del Río, viajó meses y años, recolectando un tesoro que habla de la admiración que provoca en nosotros lo Otro.

Viajó por los cinco continentes recolectando “cachivaches” que pudieran llenar el vacío inagotable de su duelo y tomar la distancia necesaria para hablar sobre lo que se ama.

El “cachureo”, ese cuerpo sin órganos, es el paradigma desde el que podemos leer una urbe construida contra todo pronóstico; en el límite mismo de la conquista, lugar al que fue arrastrada por las olas de un gran sismo, en el que las luchas sociales conviven con las actividades productivas, predominantes en el paisaje, y la modernización es siempre una calle llena de escombros, como residuo del fracaso de las políticas públicas y de la resistencia a la presencia del mercado, o cómo producto de las continuas reconstrucciones . Sólo residuos indiferenciados constituyen el piso sobre el que esta ciudad revive como ave Fenix, en una constante alegoría de la modernidad; el residuo, es nuestra postal.

Concepción, ciudad multiforme y visceral, se muestra como un extraño ejemplo de polaridades. Culturalmente alberga diversas actividades de las más variadas índoles; desde instancias tradicionales, como la colección de pintura del siglo XIX y XX albergada en la pinacoteca penquista, hasta danza contemporánea en instituciones como Balmaceda arte joven. Actividades contraculturales y underground: a favor del vegetarianismo hasta circos tradicionales. De todo hay en Concepción y todo florece en Concepción. Los espacios por mínimos (o monumentales) que sean, se configuran para dar pie a un ambiente casi bohemio, casi intelectual, casi, siempre casi.

De todo hay en Concepción pero ¿Qué hay de Conce fuera de Conce? La presencia penquista fuera de la octava región es, por decir de alguna manera, escasa. Al sur sin embargo gana terreno, pero al norte pierde estrepitosamente crédito. Enfrentar Concepción a Valparaíso con su actividad cultural o peor aún enfrentarla a Santiago, harían ver a la capital de la región del Bio Bio como un pueblito aburrido y burgués. Y qué decir de posicionarla fuera del país. Sin embargo ocurre que gente de afuera sí viene a concepción, hay conciertos de bandas mundialmente famosas, encuentros internacionales de performances, sin embargo el posicionamiento de la región con respecto al mundo es prácticamente inexistente. He allí una falencia.

Otra particularidad reconocible es la sectorización de las dinámicas culturales, donde es reconocible como se distancian pero no se excluyen generando una oferta múltiple para una demanda muchas veces no tan generosa. Otro aspecto importante y que brilla por su ausencia es la retroalimentación de la escena cultural, donde no se han organizado esfuerzos de carácter homogeneizante pera la difusión en diferentes plataformas de las iniciativas culturales, generalmente la gente que se entera de los eventos es gente ya inserta dentro del círculo de la “cultura” dejando de lado la posibilidad de ampliación de este círculo.

Recapitulando, concepción posee un buen acervo cultural, sin embargo falla en 3 puntos importantes: Posicionamiento nacional/internacional, la desmedida diversificación de actividades culturales en ausencia de una coordinación global de ellas, y la difusión interna de esta misma oferta existente siendo este ultimo el punto que mayor merma genera a la hora de identificar un panorama cultural en la ciudad y que debiera ser prioridad al momento de pensar la cultura en la región.
