Rotary Club hosts ‘Taste of Menlo Park’

The Rotary Club of Menlo Park is sponsoring its first annual “Taste of Menlo Park” from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Menlo College. The evening of food and wine pairings will benefit local high school scholarships. This year, the Rotary Club of Menlo Park Foundation donated $87,000 to scholarships. Food from 11 Menlo Park and Atherton restaurants and purveyors, as well as wine and beer from Bay Area wineries and breweries, will be featured at the event. In addition to the food and wine sampling, there will be a silent auction and a raffle for prizes that include an iPad and a television. “Our club was looking for an additional way to raise money for our Foundation Fund for local scholarships, and we thought it would be a wonderful idea to bring the community together to share an evening of wonderful food and drinks,” says “Taste of Menlo Park” chair Michelle Tsui. Since 2004, the Rotary Club of Woodside/Portola Valley has hosted a similar event, the successful “Taste of Woodside.” Restaurants and food purveyors taking part in “Taste of Menlo Park” include: Sultana, Menlo Hub, Galata Bistro, Sodexo, Butterscotch on the Go, Bonsai Japanese Cuisine, Menlo Grill, Fey Restaurant, Rubio’s, Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria, and SusieCakes. Storrs Winery, Travieso Winery, Thomas Fogarty Winery, Michael Martella Wines, Woodside Vineyards, and Freewheel Brewing Co. will be providing beverages. Tickets are $55 per person and may be purchased online at tasteofmenlopark.org.
Vintage Affaire in Woodside Invitations are in the mail for the 31st Vintage Affaire to be held Saturday, June 22, in Woodside as a benefit for Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The event will begin at 4 p.m with a silent auction, wine

tasting and hors d’oeuvres by master chefs, including Peter Rudolph of Madera restaurant, Rosewood Sand Hill. At 6 p.m. there will be a gourmet dinner by Taste Catering and a live auction with John Glines as auctioneer. Along with an array of fine wines, the auction will include destinations, such as a six-day Cape Town wine experience in South Africa, five nights in Paris, and week in an oceanfront villa in Los Cabos. Billed as “fun things,” guests will bid for dinner for 20 at the Cercle De L’Union in San Francisco, al fresco dining for 30 in a private garden, 1,000 King Alfred daffodils planted in your garden, and a party for 60 at The Candy Store in Burlingame, home to fine automobiles. Peninsula Debutante Ball Twenty young women will bow at the 53rd Peninsula Debutante Ball to be held Saturday, June 15, at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto. Marsha Hannay of Atherton and Susann Mirabella of Palo Alto are co-chairs of the ball. Stephanie Biorn of Palo Alto is honorary chair of the event.
