Hello Everyone, News The comment period for 50-56 Leo Birmingham Parkway ends on Friday, May 31, 2019. BPDA Project Description: City Realty Group, LLC (the "Proponent") proposes to raze the existing mixed-use structure at 50 - 56 Leo M. Birmingham Parkway, and erect a six (6)-story residential building totaling approximately 48,645 gross square feet inclusive of fifty-three (53) condominium units, fifty (50) parking spaces, and a bike storage/repair room on the groundfloor. http://www.bostonplans.org/projects/development-projects/50-leo-birmingham-parkway Email Contact: Aisling.Kerr@Boston.Gov The comment period for Allston Yards (Stop & Shop) ends on Friday, June 10, 2019. BPDA Project Description: The Allston Yards redevelopment will create a new neighborhood at the nexus of Allston, Brighton, and the new Boston Landing district. The Proponent intends to redevelop an existing approximately 10.6-acre Project Site with a mixed-use, transit-oriented development (“TOD”) consisting of residential, office, restaurant, fitness and retail uses, including a flagship grocery store, and a new approximately one-acre public open space (“Community Green”) to be activated with programming to enhance use and enjoyment, such as outdoor health and wellness events, public art exhibits, music concerts and holiday festivals. The Proposed Project has been refined significantly since the PNF filing in January 2018 based on feedback received from abutters, elected officials, BPDA staff, the Boston Civic Design Commission (“BCDC”), various state and city agencies, and the Impact Advisory Group (“IAG”). Key issues that were addressed through the redesign included: reduced building density and height (especially at the neighborhood edges to the east and south); explored a greater variety in building height for a more interesting skyline; reduced housing density and reevaluated office space given the growing demand in the area; increased the size of public open space and landscaped area; and improved connections to the Boston Landing MBTA commuter rail station. http://www.bostonplans.org/projects/development-projects/allston-yards Email Contact: Michael.A.Sinatra@Boston.Gov PARKS DEPARTMENT SUMMER GUIDE NOW ONLINE If you are looking for some outdoor fun this summer in City of Boston parks simply go to the City of Boston website where you can view the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s full schedule of free summer events under the Spotlight section at www.boston.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation#spotlight. Harvard St, Allston INTERIOR SPACES - Paintings & Monotypes by Carolyn Letvin Now through July 27th Artist Carolyn Letvon writes: why Interiors? I find interior spaces to be engaging and compelling. There’s a “lost in time” sense about the rooms that call to me, which I believe is the essence of their allure for me and others. In the book, “The Poetics of Space,” French philosopher, Gaston Bachelard, analyzes domestic spaces and how they shape and hold our dreams and memories. “Houses and rooms; cellars and attics; drawers, chests, and wardrobes; nests and shells; nooks and corners: No space is too vast or too small to be filled by our thoughts and our reveries.” I do all of my interior paintings in the actual space. I like to stretch the definition of “plein air” by including these works in that category–even though I’m inside, I do usually have windows and doors open. I deal with many of the same hurdles that painting outdoors creates, like changing light and visual editing of the subject. Ultimately, I strive not for the simple recording of the environment, but for a level of transformation, which, to me, must take place for any work to be good art.

In this workshop, after discussing the importance of research before the interview, we will cover typical interview questions, including suggested answers, as well as how to handle tricky or difficult questions. Additionally, we will discuss how to prepare “meaty” questions for the interviewer. Most importantly, we will focus on the concept of “proactive interviewing.” In order to set yourself apart in the interview, you want to be proactively prepared to discuss solutions to the company’s problems. We will discuss how best to do this so that you will place yourself miles ahead of any other candidates. And, since practice makes perfect, we will role-play interview scenarios to simulate the interview experience. At the end of this workshop, you will leave with a comprehensive handout that will provide details on all of the items covered in the workshop to help position you for success in your next interview. https://edportal.harvard.edu/event/interviewing-skills-job-seekers Harvard Ed Portal

Josephine Fiorentino Center, Charlesview 123 Antwerp Street, Brighton Making is Taking: Consent in Photography Exhibit open from May 15 - June 20 Exhibition Reception - Thursday, May 23, 2019, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm In established art circles, photographers often describe their work as “making” images, as opposed to “taking” pictures. While this language accurately describes artistic authorship, it can also allow photographers and viewers to sidestep questions about agency and consent with human subjects. In this exhibition, curator and photographer Anna Rae presents the work of four Boston-area photographers, Atma, Kat Waterman, Lucas Hall, and Jaypix Belmer, who explore the role of consent in their portraits. https://community.harvard.edu/event/exhibition-reception-making-taking-consent-photography Crossings Gallery Harvard Ed Portal 224 Western Ave., Allston Photo History of Cambridge St Brighton Allston Historical Society Thursday, May 23, 2019 @ 7:00 pm Cambridge Street dates back to the early 1800s, serving as an early connection to Cambridge and Boston for the young town of Brighton.
