Tyre Retreading Process and Methods

ďƒ˜ Retreaded tyres have been a part of the tyre market for many years.

What is tyre retreading? ďƒ˜ Tyre retreading or remoulding is a process by which the old tyres are made useful by removing damaged treads (rubber belts) and substituting them with new treads.

Two types of processes ďƒ˜ Retreading of tyres usually involves two types of processes -- pre curing (cold process) and mould curing (hot process). ďƒ˜ Good quality retreaded tyres can be created using both these processes.

Pre cure (cold process) ďƒ˜ This is a new and modern system of tyre retreading. Using adhesives the tread strip is applied to tyre casings. ďƒ˜ In this process, tyre castings are fixed with a tread rubber that has already been hardened by treating it with sulphur at a high temperature.

Mould cure (hot process) ďƒ˜ While treated tread rubber is used in pre cure, raw rubber is used in mould cure. It is fixed to the tyre casing, which is then inserted in a mould where tread is created. ďƒ˜ Mould cure is a more complex process than pre cure. An exclusive mould is required for each type of tyre in this process. The hot process is mainly used for off-the-road use due to its toughness.

As good as new  The retreaded tyre is then checked for any defects.  If the tyres meet the specific standards they are subjected to some trimming.  It is then painted and is as good as any new tyre.
