epresenting the Sage theme, the royal undertones of emerald and velvet are only made more dramatic with the addition of gold flame-shaped embroidery that, when viewed on the runway, seems to glow and flicker like the embers of a fire. Part of McQueen’s legendary autumn/winter 2007 collection, the concept was first conceived when the designer discovered he had a distant relative who was a victim of the 1692 Salem witch trials. Subsequently, McQueen named the collection “In Memory of Elizabeth Howe, Salem 1692” in homage to his fallen ancestor.
