Welcome Ladies, and, I am pleased to say, gentlemen to the fourth Ladies Who Rock Worthwhile Style event. Once again, we are raising funds for The Prince’s Trust which is a very worthy cause. Last year, our event at The Biscuit Factory proved to be such a success that our guests expressed a lot of interest in returning, so that is what we have done. Rami was delighted when we booked again and his first class venue will complement our wonderful day. This year we will be having a silent auction together with our infamous exclusive main auction of things that money can’t buy, as well as our now famous ‘goody bag’ full of amazing gifts for all you fabulous ladies. We are fortunate that our sponsors are continuing to support us and once again have all been extremely generous, ensuring that we provide you all with an amazing day full of entertainment. This is complemented by our Master of Ceremonies Mr Matt Lee Alliston who this year has officially joined our Ladies Who Rock committee, as well as Helen Cadzow. Both have proved invaluable assets and we are all delighted to have them both on board. The day would not be complete without you ladies & gents, who continue to support us with many of you having returned every year from the very beginning, which is a huge compliment to us, indicating that we certainly are doing something right! Lastly, my thanks go to MY ladies, aka the Ladies Who Rock committee: Alex Morris, Ann Crombie, Helen Roseberry, Lynn Bushell and Zoe Mulvenna from The Prince’s Trust, who again this year have worked tirelessly to make this a very, very special day. Enjoy your day today and don’t forget to save the date of the 14th October 2016 for our next Worthwhile Style event. My very best wishes to you all. Let the fundraising begin!

Alison Morgan

THE COMMITTEE 11.

Alison Morgan – Prince’s Trust Patron and Ladies Who Rock Founder Throughout my business career success has been determined through motivation and inspiration. Motivation is the force, which determines our behaviour, and gives us incentive and a reason to act. Inspiration is the creative thought which is the stimulus. As a result of my passion, determination and formative influences, I have been fortunate to motivate and be motivated, inspire and be inspired. As a result, my life is productive, positive and fulfilled. I have had the pleasure to see other people grow in confidence, principle and purpose and go on to succeed in their own right. And so when The Prince’s Trust honoured me by seeking my patronage and allowing me to be the first female patron in the North East of England, I was determined to utilise my business and personal qualities to support The Trust wholeheartedly. Life can be demanding, challenging and complex whatever your age but for some young people in our region, the path you walk only leads downhill. I have seen what this can do to young people and how with the help of The Trust they can be supported to turn around, walk tall, and step by step move in the right direction.

Alex Morris – Ladies Who Rock Creative and Communication Director When I was asked to sit on the committee for this organisation, I did not hesitate even for one second in accepting what I see as an absolute privilege. I began my career as a very young woman and I know that I would have not been able to start, never mind carry on, if it wasn’t for the practical help and emotional support of particular individuals, Alison Morgan being one of these people. I know I was fortunate in having access to such contacts but not everyone is. Many young people have the skills and determination to succeed yet they lack the means, others lack the confidence as they are not surrounded by the sort of environment that can nurture and encourage their aspirations. I can only see myself as extremely fortunate for having had access to all of these. Working on making Ladies Who Rock a bigger and better event year on year, raising valuable funds for The Prince’s Trust, is a little something I can do to impact someone else’s life, the way mine has been through the years. It’s my way to ‘Pay It Forward’.

12.

Ann Crombie – Prince’s Trust Mentor On retiring from the Fashion Industry after 30 years of retailing, manufacturing and consulting I was approached by The Prince’s Trust to join their team of mentors. Only then did I discover what an important and diverse role The Prince’s Trust has to play in the future of so many young people and I feel honoured to have been able to play a small part in some of their progress. I am delighted to be part of the Ladies Who Rock fundraising committee which after only the third event has gained enormous momentum with an already loyal following. It is playing an important role in ensuring the continuation of The Prince’s Trust activities in the North of England and I am sure that together we will help many young people to reach their potential and fulfil their dreams. Thank you all for your support, have a great day and ROCK Newcastle!

Helen Roseberry – Ladies Who Rock Promoter and overall massive Supporter of The Prince’s Trust I am extremely honoured to serve on the committee of Ladies Who Rock and to have the opportunity to raise funds for the vital work The Prince’s Trust does in North East England. I’ve enjoyed a rich and interesting career working in the fashion industry and the family business of hospitality, where I am now a Director at Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club. Throughout my career, I’ve seen first hand the power of providing young people with a start and an opportunity to succeed. This is what The Prince’s Trust does and it’s invaluable to young people not in education, training or employment and for those leaving the care system. I’m excited to be part of such a dynamic group of women who work together to provide a helping hand to the young people of this great region.

13.

Lynn Bushell – Ladies Who Rock Business Relationship Manager Throughout my chosen career I have come into contact with people of all ages, abilities and from all walks of life. Often times our paths have crossed because they have been disadvantaged by ill health, developmental ability or by the narrow beliefs and attitudes of society. This has been my working life and my passion for the last 32 years. More recently I made a big decision to stray from that very welltrodden path and was fortunate to come into contact with an amazing group of women with varying interests, ages and backgrounds but with a common goal. Despite our diversity, we all feel passionately about the North East, its culture and its future and wanted to make a difference. Finding your strengths, abilities and a valued place in society is a huge task for everyone and one, which is epitomised by the work of The Prince’s Trust. They need help from like minded constructive people to make that difference. And so, in partnership with The Prince’s Trust, I have worked together with the Ladies Who Rock team to support the young people of the North East through the staging and proceeds of Ladies Who Rock. Together we believe we are Ladies Who not only Rock but will also make a difference to the future of the North East.

Zoe Mulvenna – Fundraising Manager for The Prince’s Trust It is my great privilege to work for The Prince’s Trust. During my time at The Trust, I have had the opportunity to work with so many inspiring people, from the amazing young people we support, to our fabulous supporters, staff and volunteers, who make it all possible. One such group of fabulous and extremely glamorous supporters I have had the great pleasure of working with, are the Ladies Who Rock committee. They are the driving force behind this event and fantastic to work with, full of energy, ideas and enthusiasm. It has been a joy to watch the Ladies Who Rock event go from strength to strength over the past few years. All net proceeds raised from Ladies Who Rock are used to support disadvantaged young people in the North East. Many of the young people The Prince’s Trust helps are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems or have been in trouble with the law. The Prince’s Trust programmes are designed to give those young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives. Last year The Prince’s Trust supported just under 4,000 young people in this region alone. Without the support of the Ladies Who Rock committee, those who attend the event, sponsor the event and donate prizes to be used in our auction, this would not be possible. Your support does truly make a difference to the lives of young people right here in the North East. Ladies (and gents) you really do rock!

14.

Helen Cadzow – Ultimate Ladies Who Rock Prize Recruiter of the most unusual Auction Lots! I have taken a table at every Ladies Who Rock lunch event and I was absolutely honoured when I was asked to be a member of the fundraising committee. At each event that I have attended, I have been completely moved by the testimonies of some of the incredible young adults that The Prince’s Trust has helped. I have travelled a great deal in my career and continually grown through the help, support and love of my wonderful family and friends and some incredible mentors along the way. My roots have always been very firmly in the North East and I am delighted to now have an opportunity to give something back to the region that made me who I am today, through the fantastic opportunities that The Prince’s Trust gives to those who have not had the start in life and support that I have benefited from.

Matt Lee Alliston – Ladies Who Rock official Master of Ceremonies, This is one Man who truly rocks! Having been the Master of Ceremonies for the last 3 years at Ladies Who Rock, I was honoured when I was asked last year to join the committee. I am a typical man - I used to turn up on the day and do my thing! I used to think ‘WOW, haven’t they done well? All this... organised a week or so before hand, and they make it great every year!’ Little did I know…?!? The work that these ladies do every year is unimaginable - the hours are relentless - and who would have thought that you could have a 30 minute discussion over what colour the table napkins should be? I am thrilled to be on the committee keeping all these lovely ladies in check! The North East and The Prince’s Trust will always hold a dear place in my heart as without them, my wife and I’s business would not exist. To be able to give something back to the many inspiring young people that The Prince’s Trust helps will go a little way towards what we all can do together! Days like today are always the beginning of something so much bigger than we ever imagine or realise. So from this man who hopes to rock, ladies... let’s rock on!!!

YOUNG AMBASSADOR CASE STUDY Jenna’s Story Jenna resorted to self-harming to find release from a troubled relationship at home; eventually she attempted an overdose. Feeling alone, she was helped by The Trust to take control of her life and gain the self-belief she needed to get a job with good career prospects. After years of feeling pushed aside, Jenna found herself ‘sofa-surfing’ and then became homeless. When she was placed in a hostel for young people, Jenna felt that she had somewhere to call home, around people who cared. When Jenna had to leave to live independently, Jenna felt alone again, with no guidance on how to cope. Jenna’s troubled past had a terrible impact on her selfesteem. Looking for a release, she started to self-harm, and this led to an attempted overdose. Jenna said: “It was the scariest time of my life. I felt incredibly lonely and there was no one to support me.”

At this time, Jenna joined The Prince’s Trust Get into Contact Centre programme, which helps unemployed young people find jobs in the customer service industry. It gave her a structure where she could feel safe and normal, and ‘part of a big family’. Although still reluctant to confide much in others about her situation, she shared enough with staff to feel understood, and her self-esteem began to improve. After failing an earlier interview with a contact centre, Jenna battled with her self-doubt to earn an apprenticeship with Barclays, and this gave her confidence a huge boost. Now six months into her apprenticeship, Jenna is getting great results. Happier and more independent, she has made friends, has recently found her own accommodation nearer work and is excited about turning her apprenticeship into a long-term career. “I know it’s a cliché, but the programme honestly changed my life. It gave me hope and something to look forward to. I love my job and have a whole different life now with a group of friends that feel like family.”

The AMV Live Music team have over 30 years experience both on and off stage, so you can rest assured you’re in safe hands. We understand how important entertainment is to an event, and that the right music can make all the difference. We’re passionate about helping to make your occasion even more memorable with professional, high quality entertainment that fits seamlessly with the event and venue. At AMV Live Music we don’t just book you a band or a musician and then leave you to it, we manage your booking from the moment you book up until the day of your event. AMV Live Music’s co-founder Andrew Garner is also the band leader of Livewire, your band this afternoon. Livewire was started with the support of The Prince’s Trust with access to one of their grants. From those first shoots of growth with Livewire, Andrew has gone on to co-found AMV Live Music, the Newcastle based award winning music industry specialist agency. From start times to set times, from song requests to play-lists and from payments to all artist insurance certificates, we have it meticulously organised. At every stage your artist and your venue are informed online of updates to your booking, leaving no room for error on the day. We make the musical aspect of your event planning the most stress free part. Why wouldn’t you want to take the worry out of your special occasion? Our commitment to quality means that we only sign the best artists and will only recommend musicians who we feel we can personally vouch for.
