This certificate is designed for students interested in the high-demand and fast-growing field of medical billing and coding. Both private and government insurance companies are insisting on accurate and consistent medical records and on precise coding to assure proper reimbursement. The coder/biller is critical to the successful operation of clinics, doctors’ offices and hospitals. This certificate provides the skills students need to seek entry-level employment in this field. There are two main certification organizations for this professional: the American Health Information Management Association (www.ahima.org) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (www.aapc.com). Students are encouraged to investigate and pursue certification opportunities. The majority of the classes for this certificate are normally offered online, as indicated by the “OL” designation below. Consult each semester’s schedule.
