AIME provides a structured dynamic educational program that connects volunteer university students in a one-on-one mentoring relationship with Indigenous high school kids. AIME dramatically improves the chances of Indigenous kids finishing school, and provides education and development for all people connected with the Program. The objective of AIME is to see all Indigenous kids finish school at the same rate as every Australian child.

Program Manager / Co-ordinator !

Profile Strong, determined, focused, hard working, with a good sense of humour, social confidence oozing and a desire to give anything a crack; this player is the star of the show. The Michael Jordan of the AIME Team, the Program Managers show the AIME Team, and the kids and community how far we can go. They are the role models we seek the kids to be. They live the ideology that to be Indigenous is to be successful. Shame doesn't exist in this player's vernacular. They've learnt throughout their life that it's better to try and fail than to not have a go at all. They never sit back on the sidelines and wait, they turn to the coach and say, "Give me the ball, I'm up for it."

As Mentors and Mentees eyes turn to this player - they respond - they give the audience what they need. They give them a role model we are all proud of. They give them all they've got, and then come back next week and give them more. Complacency, apathy, or settling for second best will not wash with this player. Team Role The first part of the season is spent on the recruitment trail (President Obama eat your heart out). The PM bounces through the university lecture halls delivering the AIME message and bringing the uni students with them. It's then time to hit the court in another arena: the schools. Indigenous high school kids, teachers and parents are swept on board through powerful communication and desire from the Program Manager - yes we will walk with you. Pre season's over. It's time to deliver the sessions. Did anyone say Cate Blanchett you cannot touch this? The performer in the Program Manager comes to life. Rehearsal takes place off the court: the training ground for success. Lifechanging speeches are delivered. Relationships are built with parents, teachers, and principals. People start to believe. They see the change. AIME Learning Centres take off with Mentors following the Program Manager to the schools to deliver the hottest after-school Ed program in the universe. The star of the show keeps turning up - the consummate professional. Loved by Mentors, admired by Mentees, respected by teachers and principals, thanked by parents, and honoured by the community. The Program Manager is here to change the game.!

Main Purpose of the Role An AIME University site may employ a Program Co-ordinator or a Program Manager. The choice is dependant upon the operational needs of the program and the level of experience and skill displayed by the individual. At its core, the Program Co-ordinator’s role is a connector that has to be able to attract and connect with both Indigenous high school kids and a wide range of university students. The position is to communicate and embody Indigenous success, be a role model, and a leader of a community of people that connect with AIME and the safe space AIME provides to grow, develop and succeed. The Program Co-Ordinator role is more operational and relationship based, and doesn’t have as much emphasis on the performative delivery of the program. AIME National Presenters are brought in for the delivery component when we have Program Co-Ordinators. The Program CoOrdinator role is open to any person from any background, and is not an Indigenous only position. The Program Manager’s role incorporates the above and as well the delivery of some of the key AIME sessions on the ground at their university site. Program Manager’s are Indigenous preferred positions. Main Responsibilities Co-ordinator " " " " " " " " " " " " "

Recruitment, selection and then the highest quality of relationships with Mentors. Working closely with local schools and relevant members of the Indigenous community. Consolidation of data and attendance from all sessions. Building a strong relationship with university contacts. Building Indigenous and non-Indigenous community connect points and maintain relevant contact database. Recruiting, training and managing assistant staff members. Ensuring that the relevant child protection screening and AIME training has been completed by each Mentor. Reporting back to, working with, and utilising support and leadership from, your Com & Ops Manager. Ensure legally approved Mentors receive regular communication updates via the AIME communication processes and that the Mentors are fully trained, informed and equipped to carry out their role effectively and efficiently. Engaging at least 100 university Mentors and 100 Mentees in the AIME Program at your university site. Increasing Year 10 and Year 12 completion rates and university admission rates for the students involved in the Program at your site. Helping build the best graduate development program for university students at your site. Working closely with the other units in the AIME team to ensure that everyone is connected in to the program on the ground and it’s daily successes.

Know ledge, Skills and Experience " " " " " " "

Relevant tertiary qualifications. High-level public presentation skills. Strong relationship development and leadership capabilities. Excellent interpersonal skills, sensitivity to cultural and personal diversity. Excellent Communications skills both written and verbal. Knowledge of and a demonstrated empathy with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community particularly young people and the issues facing them. An understanding of education and learning processes that enable the delivery of world-class programs designed to develop young people’s talents and interests.

AIM E Learning & Developm ent K ey Program s – Touch-points – Initiatives 1.

AIME Staff Camps, AIME Quarterlies & Learning and Development Days 14 days where the whole team comes together in Sydney to touch base each quarter, to reflect, regroup and refine our skills and focus for the next stage. At the quarterly touch-points the AIME Team attends workshops run by some of Australia’s leading organizations including Google, Coca Cola, Telstra, Origin Energy, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders. Themes include: Leadership, Management, Communication, Team Synergy, Culture and many more.

AIME Professional Mentoring and Leadership Program Our commitment to mentoring also extends to our staff who receive their own Professional Mentor for 5-6 months of the year. It’s a chance for AIME to connect our staff with some of Australia’s current leaders, to grow and learn from their experience, and to then feed it back into our day-to-day work. The following, are an example of the calibre of people who have been involved as Professional Mentors with AIME: Chris Sarra (Executive Director, Stronger Smarter Institute), Adam Spencer (ABC Radio), Greg Hutchinson (Executive Partner, Bain & Company), Marion Potts (Artistic Director, Malthouse Theatre), Chris Boys (General Manager, Support Services Team, Social Ventures Australia), and many more.!

Study and Development Leave Each AIME staff member will receive an extra 5 days of leave that can be directed towards the staff member’s development. It may mean that some staff choose to complete a course, others may wish to do some reading or writing, others may simply take the time to experience new perspectives through conferences or festivals. Staff simply apply for the extra leave, and then can use the pay for those 5 days of study and development leave and direct it towards something they want to do.

Cultural Leave Each staff member will also receive 3 days of cultural leave each year. Basically this was brought in to give all of our staff, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, the chance to build their connection with Indigenous Australia. For many of our Indigenous staff it's a chance to get back home, to learn language, or maybe even to go to another blackfella's country and learn from their experience. Then for our non-Indigenous staff, it's a chance to really build that connect point around what it means to be Australian, a chance to maybe volunteer for another Indigenous organisation, or head off with an Indigenous AIME staff member to their country, or attend festivals such as Garma. A strong connection to Indigenous Australia makes us all much richer in terms of our history, identity and sense of belonging as Australians
