OJEK • Do you know what an Ojek is? • An Ojek, or a motorbike taxi, is a motorcyclist that offers rides to wherever you want to go. Ojek is a quite popular mode of transport in Surabaya, because: • some public transportation in Surabayais not connected pretty well and Surabaya isn’t that pleasurable to walk around (especially during the day and during rush hour). So people often take ojek from their office to the train station (in some cases the distance is actually close enough to walk) or etc. • The price around Rp.5.000-Rp.20.000 depends on how far your destination is. Insist of the helmet to them and wear it properly.

GOJEK •

In Indonesia a transportation service with a motorcycle is very common. In the big city like Surabaya the traffic is always crowded in most of the area, using a car or bus is very dangerous to hit by the traffic jam especially in the morning and after office hours. Even in the other region, the motorcycle service also common especially in area that so hard to handle by the car. Gojek is an Application. Yup! Gojek basically is an app that connecting user that want to use the motorcycle service with the nearest driver, so they will meet as soon as possible. This app also will calculate the price that you (as a customer) need to pay based on the distance (kilometer) between your current position (or pickup position) with the destination that you put in the app. Gojek is available too for car it’s called “Go Car”, and also can buy you some food , “Go Food”. The app available at App Store & Play Store.

BECAK • Becak were banned within the Surabaya city limits in the mid-90s due to their propensity to cause traffic jams. Their sheer numbers in the city prior to the crackdown attests to how widely they were used. Models of becak are different in each city they are found in across Indonesia. • Becak fit two passengers comfortably and possibly even more, depending on the size of the passenger. There is some protection from the sun with the canopy over your head and a plastic sheet that comes down over the front helps protect passengers during rainstorms. Bargain before you get in and don't expect the driver to have change for large bills. The price around Rp.5.000Rp.20.000 depends on how far your destination is.

ANGKOT •

Another noisy little neighborhood vehicle is the bemo, which is used for local transportation in limited areas in Surabaya. But we can also say it “Angkot”, Originally brought to Indonesia by the Japanese government as part of a disaster relief package in the early 1960s, the vehicles were never manufactured in Indonesia in as great a number as bajaj or becak. But there is no bajaj in Surabaya. Every Angkot have a different destinations. This can be seen from the difference in color and the letters shown on Angkot. (E.g: Angkot “S”, “D”, etc) So, you have to ask first the place that you will visit. The price around Rp. 5.000- Rp. 10.000 it depends on your destinations.
