PRESIDENT'S WELCOME 2021 has been an important milestone for EYP Cyprus - from continuing to engage young people throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to holding our 1st Digital Session and our first hybrid event to celebrating 15 years since the founding of our organisation! 15 years later. Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, EYP Cyprus in 2021 organised more than ten events and provided a unique educational platform to more than 500 participants in our events. This year our strategy focused on some critical areas to help the organisation grow and develop to be a key one in the field of youth education and youth participation in Cyprus. We wanted to burst the EYP bubble and have an impact on the broader society of Cyprus; we tried to diversify our activities and introduce new opportunities for our alumni and the youth of Cyprus; we wanted to promote further the work we do and engage with more stakeholders. We worked towards all these through our pre-established and new events - our sessions, the Think Tank on Energy, training, open discussions with experts and volunteering campaigns. In 2021 EYP Cyprus was able to engage over 600 young people through its activities - proof that the organisation is continuing to sustainably grow. We have, in 2021, set the foundations, and expanded those set by previous National Committees to help stir EYP Cyprus into even more successful future years! Looking towards the future - the next event, the next year and even the 20th anniversary, EYP Cyprus is growing to be one of the biggest platforms for independent discussions amongst the youth of Cyprus. I hope the organisation continues to develop, engage with even more young people and have an even more significant impact in the future. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the rest of the National Committee of 2021, who worked tirelessly and beyond what was required to ensure that the year was as successful as it was. At the same time, I want to thank all of the Head Organisers, Leadership and Officials that helped shape our events, as well as everyone who engaged with our work over 2021. With 2021 being an anniversary year for EYP Cyprus, which celebrated 15 years of activity, I also want to thank all past National Committee Members, Project Managers and volunteers whose work paved the way for the successful year. I am confident the work we have undertaken in 2021 will be a foundation for the next 15 years of even more social impact and engagement with the youth of Cyprus. Sincerely,

Theodoulos Hadjimatheou President of EYP Cyprus for 2021

DIRECT IMPACT Togay Ata Gokalp Chairperson at the 1st Digital Session of EYP CY 22/07/2021 - 25/07/2021

"The first digital session allowed me to rejoin the EYP family even if I was at home. It was an amazing experience that allowed me to bond with my delegates, whilst also trying to solve current issues. Moreover, the fact that it was a session open to everyone, we had the privilege of having people of different backgrounds which gave a different edge to the session and made it extremely enjoyable." Irene Constantinou Chairperson, 15th National Selection of EYP Cyprus 20/08/2021 - 24/08/2021

"Every time I join a session I get surprised by how much this small community offers me: skills, knowledge, friendships and confidence. EYP has benefited me in both a personal and a professional way and I am grateful for each and everyone that has been with me through that journey so far!"

Emily Vrahimi Member of EYP Cyprus' Think Tank on Energy September-November 2021

"By participating in the think tank, we get to had an input into the climate policies of Cyprus as the Youth. We had the opportunity to share new and fresh ideas on how we think Cyprus should tackle the issues of climate change and reach its goals for 2030 and 2050. We critically assessed the current legislation and policies and discuss how these should be amended amongst ourselves and with policymakers. In this way, we get to have an impact on Cyprus' progress in terms of its climate change goals"

DIRECT IMPACT Mr Costas Mavrides Member of the European Parliament

"The Future of Europe cannot be built without the active involvement of its European citizens and especially the young generation. The European Youth Parliament Cyprus organization provides a forum where the young people can express their concerns and opinions on European political, economic and social issues in an open and inclusive environment and exchange ideas and practices with other young Europeans. Such forums contribute to the development of the active citizenship of the young generation as young people' insight is necessary to help us shape a fair, resilient and sustainable Union in the era of globalization."

Mr Nikos Christodoulides Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus

"I congratulate the European Youth Parliament Cyprus for giving us the opportunity to interact and discuss this important and timely issue."

MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to provide a unique educational experience to the youth of Cyprus. We do this through all our activities by fostering a safe, independent environment for young people to share their opinions and ideas, take initiatives, grow and develop their knowledge and critical skills. Through all our actions, we ultimately aim to have a social impact directly with the young participants attending our events and the Cypriot society in general. We make our vision a reality by focusing on six key pillars under the international strategy of EYP:

Firstly we aim to work as a catalyst for active citizenship - encouraging our alumni and young people, in general, to be engaged in their communities. We organised various volunteering activities, including our environmental campaign #WeCleanFromHome and a food collection during our National Session. At the same time, to engage even more people and have a broader impact beyond our event participants, we opened various elements of all our activities to the general public. Beyond these, through organising expert talks, we ensured that our event participants had a chance to share their work and ideas with policymakers and experts. We additionally organised the Think Tank on Energy, where young people had the opportunity to dive deep into the issue of Energy and Climate Change and share their policy proposals directly with experts who can utilise them to enact change. Secondly, we aim to foster a peaceful society through promoting our network’s diversity and the European aspect of our organisation. We also worked hard to sustainably develop and grow as an organisation through improving our internal workings and laying down the foundations to support future activities. We also focused on expanding our Public Relations partnerships through critical partnerships and collaborations. Additionally, we aim to push for inclusion and accessibility and offer a rich variety of tools, methods and formats through utilising digital and hybrid tools to prevent any barriers for participation, as well as outreaching to different geographical areas and people from different backgrounds through various means and formats.

The National Committee of EYP Cyprus

COVID-19 STATEMENT With our work being based on engagement and interaction, EYP Cyprus in 2021, similarly to 2020 was deeply affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Fully utilising digital platforms, we continued proving that our work and impact have no geographical, or physical limitations, and we took on opportunities to further expand our impact during a time of isolation and uncertainty. With our priority continuing to be the health and safety of all our participants, members, and partners, our work and impact highlight that we were able to stay active and even expand our workings during the pandemic to still follow our mission and engage young people from Cyprus and abroad with current issues. With various events taking part digitally or in a hybrid format this year, we were able to engage young people from remote areas in Troodos and Paphos. We held a fully Digital Session to provide the experience of a major EYP event to over 100 young people during the pandemic. We also urged people to clean their neighbourhoods in the #WeCleanFromHome campaign - highlighting that we can still be active and have an impact during lockdowns. But most importantly, we worked hard to provide a supportive network for our alumni to engage within times of isolation. Recognising the burden of restrictions on young people, we organised many social and educational events online to help young people come together and connect with the hopes of helping each other through this difficult time. At the same time, we were able to safely deliver a hybrid National Session. Despite the ever-changing epidemiological situation and guidance, we worked hard to provide a safe and worthwhile experience for 180+ participants who were able despite a lot of precautionary measures - to join the 15th National Session for two days digitally and two days physically! The National Committee, the Head Organisers and our volunteers worked extremely hard to utilise every opportunity to maximise our impact and help young people through this challenging time. We want to thank our partners for their guidance through this difficult time, as well as all volunteers and participants for engaging with our activities during this difficult year.

EYP TRAINING DAY 2021 Training events are an integral element to the capacity development of EYP Cyprus because they contribute to the personal and professional growth of our active members and ultimately assist the enhancement of their educational experience. A relatively new initiative adopted in 2019 is the annual Alumni Training Day held in early September. The event targets primarily the new alumni who participate at our major summer conferences, and it allows them to receive training modules around the different roles within the EYP network that they can take on - these include team facilitators, members of the media and publishing team and members of the org This year’s Annual Training Day took place on Saturday, September 4th, at the Bank of Cyprus in Nicosia and the Pattichion Municipal Museum Historical Archives in Limassol. The event welcomed around 60 participants, amongst them old and new alumni of the organisation. The trainers for the event included experienced alumni: Alyssa Mia Taliotou, Androniki Charalambous, Constantinos Charalambous, Emily Tsangarides, Marilena Pavlidou and Stylianos Hadjiforados. 15

EYP INTERNATIONAL EYP Cyprus as a member of the EYP international network continued in 2021 to engage with the broader EYP network through various events. We actively took part in the Board of National Committees’ Meeting, as well as other training and capacity building events including the Fundraising Summit and the Summer Academy. Summer Academy 2021 The EYP Summer Academy is an international training event gathering representatives from all 40 EYP member countries aiming to support their work in their National Committees by providing training modules for their board members. This year, the Summer Academy took place in a hybrid format, with participants gathering digitally and in hubs across Europe to engage with training modules and share best practices. Our President - Theodoulos Hadjimatheou and Treasurer - Stefan Stankovic participated online while our Secretary and HR Officer - Lazaros Hadjiforados and our alumnus - Aliosha Bielengberg participated physically in Berlin. BNC Meetings The Board of National Committees (BNC) acts as the voice for the EYP network’s and EYP national organisations’ interests. It serves as a knowledgesharing platform to share best practices and know-how on things such as youth work in different countries, organising events, and alumni work. At the same time, the BNC meets twice a year to debate and vote on network-wide policies. This year, the BNC held two meetings: one digital in April 2021 attended by our National Coordinators Emilios Charalambous & Maria Tanou, and one hybrid meeting in November 2021 attended by our National Coordinator Emilios Charalambous, our President Theodoulos Hadjimatheou and our Secretary and HR Officer - Lazaros Hadjiforados.

INFO DAY 2021 The Info Day held in October 2021 was an outreach initiative, aiming to introduce EYP Cyprus and our upcoming events: the Pre-Selection Days and EYP Day to people who never participated in EYP in the past. The event aimed to provide potential future participants of our events with a glimpse into what to expect so they are more familiar and comfortable with the EYP procedures. The event was open to teachers and students and welcomed experienced and new schools in getting a small taste of the unique educational experience and impact that EYP can offer. The Info Day took place on Saturday, October 16th online and hosted 60+ participants, amongst them teachers and students who got the opportunity to get to know more about the organisation and its workings. In addition, teachers were given a chance to share their best practices in supporting their students to get involved with EYP.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING EYP Cyprus interacts with its members both informally, but also formally through its General Meetings. This year, we held a Mid Year General Meeting in July 2021, as well as our Annual General Meeting in December 2021. Mid-Year General Meeting: The Mid-Year General Meeting (MYGM) has been adopted in 2019 to further drive engagement between the National Committee and its members. At the MYGM, the National Committee presented the activities of EYP for the months of January to June 2021, as well as details about upcoming events and activities. This year, the Mid-Year General Meeting was held on Saturday, July 17th, via zoom due to the ongoing pandemic and hosted more than 35 active alumni. In the event, our alumni were informed about our events that had already taken place, the impact of COVID-19 on our future events, and how we are tackling the issue and debated about pending constitutional matters. Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting (GM) of EYP Cyprus took place on the 28th of December 2021 at the Cultural Foundation of the Bank of Cyprus. The event allowed our members and alumni to get informed on all the activities that the organisation undertook in 2021 and on the upcoming plans for 2022. The event also acted as a platform for members to share feedback with the National Committee. Finally, during the AGM the elections for members of the National Committee of 2022 also took place.

#WE CLEAN FROM HOME To celebrate World Earth Day on the 22nd of April, EYP Cyprus has launched its first-ever environmental campaign! The #WeCleanFromHome campaign took place between the 19-25th of April 2021, and its purpose was to fight against waste and garbage in public spaces. As part of the campaign, any individual taking part was urged to clean an area of their choice within the span of one week and promote their good deed by forwarding a picture of their results - this campaign was conducted under the regulations imposed by the national authorities of each country regarding the coronavirus pandemic. With this event being unrestrained from geographical borders, we had partners and participants from all across the EYP network take part, with 2.5 bags of trash being collected per person and areas in all cities of Cyprus as well as cities abroad having been cleaned! The event was supported by the Cyprus Youth Council and took place under the auspices of the Commissioner for the Environment and the Commissioner of Volunteerism. Partners included the Bank of Cyprus, Support CY, Let’s Do it Cyprus, CYMEPA, EYP Austria and EYP Slovenia.

THINK TANK ON ENERGY This year for the first time, EYP Cyprus organised a Think Tank that included 16 members and revolved around the issue of Energy and Climate Change. The Think Tank ran from September to November 2021 with the aim to provide young Cypriots with the opportunity to dive deep into the complex and multi-faceted issue of Energy and Decarbonisation and discuss their views on it with other young people to put forth a set of policy recommendations on how Cyprus should tackle the issue. The issue of energy was discussed based on the National Strategy Plan on Energy and Climate. With this, the recommendations developed by the Think Tank were extensively disseminated by EYP Cyprus to relevant policymakers. The team worked through analysing scientific reports, through online discussions, and also through discussions with experts and policymakers. During the 3+ months of activity, EYP Cyprus organised various open discussions that invited members of the Think Tank and the general public to discuss the issue with experts. These included: A discussion with Environmental Engineer at the Cyprus Energy Agency, Ms Myrto Skouroupathi, on the 12th September, A discussion with the youth ambassadors to COP-26, on the 10th October. A panel discussion with policy makers was also organised where the Think Tank presented and discussed its ideas with relevant stakeholders. The event was open to the public and the speakers included: Mr Charalampos Theopemptou - Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment, Ms Klelia Vasiliou - Environment Commissioner of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Isaris - Deputy Head of Representation, European Commission Office in Cyprus. The Think Tank engaged with over 40 participants and produced policy proposals that were then shared with stakeholders including the Minister of Energy.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM The Mentorship Programme of EYP Cyprus is one of our newest initiatives established in 2020. The main objective of this programme is to support new alumni in their journey through EYP by matching them with more experienced alumni who take on the role of mentors. Each mentor is allocated a group of new EYP alumni - their mentees. The Mentorship Programme lasts for a year, and through that, mentors can provide mentees with all the necessary tools to help them navigate through the first stages of being EYP alumni. Concurrently, the programme acts as a social platform because it encourages alumni engagement and cooperation, ultimately allowing EYP to become a community based on solidarity and mutual support. This year, over 35 alumni are involved in the mentorship scheme which will run until August 2022.

Discord Server During Covid-19, it has been increasingly hard for young people to engage with each other. With the aim of supporting our alumni in engaging with each other during a time of isolation, the EYP Cyprus Alumni Discord server was set up in early February 2022. The Discord Server aims to act as a platform of informal communication between all alumni, especially given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. By joining, our alumni were able to connect with other EYP Cyprus alumni, take part in training and workshops as well as collaborate on other issues including their academic and professional work.
