IDOLS for DESTRUCTION

The Most Condemned Sin Throughout the Bible commandments and warnings against idolatry are the most repeated of all. There are more denunciations of idolatry than any other sin in the Bible. "You shall not make for yourself a carved image… you shall not bow down to them nor serve them." Exodus 20:4-6 "Do not turn to idols, nor make for yourselves moulded gods; I am the Lord your God." Leviticus 19:4 "Thus says the Lord God:

'Repent, turn away from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations. For anyone… who sets up his idols in his heart… I the Lord will answer him by Myself.'" Ezekiel 14:6-7

Slavery in Mauritania In fact, Mauritania, bordering Senegal, has over half a million slaves amongst their country's population of just over 3 million. Samuel Cotton, the African American author of Silent Terror, A Journey into Contemporary African Slavery, reports that Mauritanian Arabs and Berbers bring their black slaves with them to work in Dakar, even within sight of Goree Island! Yet Obama had not one word to say about this ongoing scandal.

Deafening Silence President Obama hypocritically stated that his visit to Goree Island, a World Heritage Site, "gives me even greater motivation in terms of human rights around the world!" Africans find that statement hard to take seriously, considering that Obama had not a word to say about the ongoing 1,400 years of Arab slave trade. slavery activists were sentenced to six months in jail for protesting the enslavement of a 10-year-old girl. No punishment was ever handed out to the slave owner and the slave girl disappeared.

in visiting Zanzibar, the most notorious slave island in history, on the East Coast of Africa. Zero Interest in Zanzibar Although Obama's second state visit in Africa was Tanzania, he never ventured near the island of Zanzibar, through which 20,000 African slaves were processed every year. Cowardice Perhaps he was concerned not to embarrass his Muslim friends, who are still involved in the slave trade today.

Embarrassing Facts in Stone Town Also, a visit to Stone Town on Zanzibar would have been even more embarrassing as the former slaves, after having been liberated by the British Royal Navy, built a magnificent church over the old slave market. Christ Church The Anglican Cathedral, Christ Church, in Mkunazini Road, in the centre of the old town occupies the area where the largest slave market of Zanzibar used to be situated. The construction of the Cathedral was intended to celebrate the end of the Arab slave trade on Zanzibar. The altar and pulpit were designed to be in the exact place where the main whipping post and slave auction block had been. Construction on Christ Church began in 1873, the year of the death of Missionary Explorer Dr. David Livingstone. The Cathedral was completed and consecrated in 1903. Inside the church there is a cross made from the wood of the tree under which Dr. David Livingstone's heart was buried in Chitambo, Northern Zambia. Monumental Near this church, a striking monument has been constructed above the 15 underground cells, where slaves in transit were incarcerated until their sale

to their Arab masters. The monument in Stone Town consists of 5 stone figures in a pit, representing the captured slaves who appear to be rising out of the earth. The shackles around their necks and the chains between them testify to their plight. They look tired and sad, but strong. Awkward Questions Africans are asking why Barack Obama, an African American president, continues to be so supportive of radical Muslim regimes who are still engaged in slavery today? Why is he so silent about the largest and longest slave trade in history? One that has not yet come to an end. Contrasts in Captivity The comparisons and contrasts between Goree Island and Zanzibar Island are striking: While the European involvement in the transAtlantic slave trade to the Americas, lasted for just over three centuries, the Arab involvement in the slave trade has lasted fourteen centuries, and in some parts of the Muslim world, is still continuing to this day. While two out of three slaves shipped across the Atlantic were men, the proportions were reversed in the Islamic slave trade in East Africa, the Indian Ocean and across the -

were castrated, and most of the children born to the women were killed at birth, either by drowning, or by having their throats slit, to maintain Arab numerical superiority. Transatlantic Victims It is estimated that possibly as many as 11 million Africans were transported across the Atlantic (95% went to South and Central America, mainly to Portuguese, Spanish and French possessions.) Less than 5% of the slaves went to the United States.

Sahara. Two women for every man were enslaved by the Muslims. Mortality Rates While the mortality rate for slaves being transported across the Atlantic was as high as 10%, the percentage of slaves dying in transit in the trans-Sahara and East African slave trade, was between 80% and 90%. Exploitation While almost all the slaves shipped across the Atlantic were for agriculture work, most of the slaves destined for the Muslim Middle East were for sexual exploitation as concubines, in harems and for military service. Descendants While many children are born to slaves in America and millions of their descendants are citizens in Brazil, Jamaica, Haiti and the USA to this day, very few descendants of the slaves that ended up in the Middle East survived. Slaughtered While most slaves who went to the Americas could marry and have families, most of the male slaves destined for the Middle East slave bazaars

140 Million Victims However, at least 28 million Africans were enslaved by the Muslims. As at least 80% of those captured by the Muslim slave traders were calculated to have died before reaching the slave markets, it is believed that the death toll from the 14 centuries of Muslim slave raids into Africa could have been well over 112 million. When added to the number of those sold in the slave markets, the total number of African victims of the transSahara and East African slave trade would be significantly higher than 140 million people. Setting the Captives Free While Christian Reformers spear-headed the anti-slavery abolitionist movements in North America, with great Britain mobilising a Navy, throughout the 19th century to intercept slave ships and set the captives free, there was no comparable opposition to slavery within the Muslim world. While Britain outlawed the slave trade in 1807, and the 8 main powers of Europe outlawed the slave trade at the Congress of Vienna, 1815, Saudi Arabia and Yemen only outlawed the slave trade in 1962, and Mauritania in 1980.

Idols for Destruction from page 1

The Apostle John beseeches us: "... keep yourselves from idols." 1 John 5:21 Prohibiting Polytheism Of course, the second commandment prohibits the idolatry of polytheistic religions such as Hinduism. Idols of Kali before whom devotees used to offer human sacrifices. Shiva, Krishna, and Vishnu are all obviously idols forbidden by the second commandment. The Apostle Paul taught: "That the things which the gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s Table and of the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?" 1 Corinthians 10:20-22

Destruction When many of the Israelites turned to the sin of idolatry, God sent the Assyrians to destroy the Northern Kingdom of Israel and lead His people into captivity. The Southern Kingdom of Judah was later conquered under Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. It took the furnace of affliction and slavery in Babylon to purge the dregs of idolatry from the hearts of God’s people. First under the ministry of great prophets such as Ezekiel and Daniel, and then after the return from Exile under Ezra and Nehemiah, the people resolved to never again compromise with idolatry. Multi-Cultural Pluralism Christianity cannot worship before the idolatrous altar of pluralism, multiculturalism and the interfaith movement. Jesus Christ is "the way, the

Lenin's corpse - a focus of idolatry.

Moses wrote: "They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods; with abominations they provoked Him to anger. They sacrificed to demons, not to God…" Deut 32:16-20 Provoking the Wrath of God The Prophet Jeremiah wrote: "'The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire... do they provoke Me to anger?' asks the Lord. 'Do they not provoke themselves, to the shame of their own faces?' Therefore thus says the Lord God: 'Behold, My anger and My fury will be poured out on this place… and it will burn and not be quenched.'" Jeremiah 7:18-20

Communists line up to see their god - Vladimir Lenin - in Moscow.

Second Commandment still applies to us today. Popular vocabulary identifies "sports idols", "Hollywood idols", "sex idols", and musicians who are described as "idols". There is also no doubt that people make idols of their favourite political party. The Soviet Union made a god of "The Party" and instituted idolatrous pilgrimages to Lenin's tomb.

incensed that the president of South Africa had been referred to by his bare surname. "THAT'S PRESIDENT THABO MBEKI TO YOU!" he shouted. Shortly after that this same individual cursed and blasphemed opening himself up to the response: "That’s the Lord Jesus Christ to you!" My God What comes into our minds when we think of God, is the most important thing about us. All too often people betray the idolatry within their minds in how they speak of God. Bishop Desmond Tutu was quoted on the front page of daily newspapers in South Africa as declaring that "my God isn't homophobic", that "I could never worship a God who is against homosexuals." Tutu even declared that if homosexuals don't go to Heaven, then he didn't want to go there! condemn anyone to hell, because his god does not exist. It is a figment of his imagination. What people have done when they speak like this is to invent a god to suit their own purposes. This is the essence of idolatry. The One True God The fact is that the God of the Bible is not only a God of love, but a God of light. God is not only gracious and merciful, but He is holy and just. God is not only a Saviour, but He is the Eternal Judge. The God of the Bible, the one true God who made Heaven and Earth, gave us His Ten Commandments. He sent plagues upon Egypt. He destroyed the pursuing Egyptian army in the Red Sea. He sent fire and sulphur upon the wicked inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah. Appointment with God The Day will come when each one of us will have to stand before His Judgment Seat and

give an account of our lives. "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the Judgment." Hebrews 9:27

held in high honour‌ in this way the Word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power." Acts 19:17-20

Your Highest Priority What is most important to you? Anything more important to us than God is an idol. To many people the idol in their life is fame, fortune, success, their fancy car, or home, their computer, smartphone, prestige, or a certain relationship. Nothing must be more important in our lives than God.

Boycott Hell - Repent! We need to repent of idolatry in our hearts, minds and lives. Where there is a physical idol, we should break, burn or bury it.

"Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls. Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." James 1:21-22 Dr. Peter Hammond

"For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the Truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the Creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse..." Rom 1:18-21 Destroying Idols It is noteworthy throughout the Bible that whenever God's Word is proclaimed, the response of repentant people has been to destroy their idols. When the Apostle Paul proclaimed the Gospel in Ephesus, people brought their occultic materials and burned them. "They were all seized with fear, and the Name of the Lord Jesus was

MANDELA DAY and the MAKING of a NEW RELIGION United Nations Resolution In November 2009 the United Nations General Assembly declared 18 July, "Nelson Mandela International Day"! This they said was "in recognition of the former South African president's contribution to the culture of peace and freedom." The General Assembly Resolution: "recognises Nelson Mandela's values and his dedication to the service of humanity, in the fields of conflict resolution, race relations, the promotion and protection of human rights, reconciliation, gender equality, and the rights of children and other vulnerable groups, as well as the upliftment of poor and undeveloped communities. It acknowledges his contribution to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world."

Personality Cults With songs of praise and hymns glorifying Nelson Mandela being sung by choirs and taught to school children, we seem to be seeing the beginning of a new religion. The ancient pharaohs were worshipped as gods. The chairmen of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union, were elevated to cult status, particularly in the case of Vladimir Lenin, whose tomb continues to be a site of pilgrimage. When Joseph Stalin was dictator of the Soviet Union, the cult of the chairman reached new heights, or rather depths.

6

Emperor Worship In Romania, Communist Party General Secretary, Nikolai Ceausescu, became the focal point of emperor worship, such as the world had not seen since the days of the caesars. Over 8,000 hymns of praise were composed, honouring the communist dictator, Ceausescu. Literally millions of his pictures adorned homes, offices, schools and government buildings.

Celebrity Cults Hollywood certainly has produced many celebrity cults. However, the extravagant praise and idolising of Nelson Mandela as a hero/martyr and ideal example, has exceeded all bounds. The mythology and idolatry surrounding the Mandela cult is startling.

Indoctrination Choirs have sung songs and hymns in praise of Nelson Mandela. Concerts and events have been organised in his honour. Massive posters have been erected on Civic Centres.

The Department of Education has apparently replaced education – teaching children how to think, with indoctrination – teaching children what to think. In order to enable Nelson Mandela to be entered into the Guinness Book of Records, various publicity stunts have been promoted, including requiring children of all ages in the classroom to write birthday cards to Nelson Mandela and sing Happy Birthday to him on 18 July, to create new records. Now school children are being required to write Tributes and

Dedications, praising Nelson Mandela and no dissent permitted. This was a directive to all schools, even independent schools, from the Ministry of Education! Mandela's Abortion Legacy This is deeply disturbing on many levels. For example: Are pro-life Christians expected to put their values to one side and deify the man who rammed through parliament, against all opposition, his bill legalising abortion in South Africa? Over one million babies have been killed, officially, legally, in South Africa, with tax-payers' money, since Nelson Mandela signed the Termination of Pregnancy Bill, 1 February 1997. Life

begins at conception. Abortion is murder. Pornography is Propaganda for a Rape Culture The UN General Assembly may speak of Nelson Mandela's "promotion of the rights of children, and other vulnerable groups", but under his presidency pornography was legalised. The South African Police Services, Child Protection Unit reported that child rape increased over 400% as a result. Supporting Dictators The General Assembly may claim that Nelson Mandela "contributed to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world", yet he closed down South Africa's Embassy in the Republic of China on the island of Taiwan, and opened up South Africa's Embassy in Communist China, a one party dictatorship with a brutal human rights record. Nelson Mandela welcomed to South Africa the longest reigning dictator in the world, Fidel Castro, and gave him the highest award this country can offer. Mandela also assembled both Houses of Parliament for Fidel Castro to address. A rare privilege. As president, Nelson Mandela uncritically supported some of the worst dictatorships on the planet such as Castro's Cuba, Mugabe's Zimbabwe, Communist China, Gaddafi's Libya, Saddam Hussein's Iraq, and numerous other states notorious for their human rights abuses.

-

Web: www.christianaction.org.za

Pornography is the Theory - Rape is the Practise The General Assembly Resolution may speak of Nelson Mandela's "dedication to the service of humanity‌ gender equality‌" yet under him, pornography was legalised and prostitution effectively decriminalised, human trafficking exploded in South Africa. Incidents of rape exploded exponentially in the country as sex shops and pornography were, for the first time, allowed in South Africa. Do Not Let Facts Get in the Way of a Good Story! The UN Declaration describes Nelson Mandela as "a prisoner of conscience." However the fact is that even Amnesty International refused to take on Nelson Mandela's case, because they asserted that he was not a political prisoner, but had committed numerous violent crimes and had had a fair trial and a reasonable sentence. Unanswered Reason Why The most radical newspapers of the day, such as The Star and Rand Daily Mail praised the leniency of the Court in giving the lightest possible sentence for such violent crimes. In 1964, anyone in America, or Britain, or France, who committed such crimes would have been executed. Just and Fair Even the Rand Daily Mail, the most outspoken, liberal newspaper at the time in South Africa and, in many

ways, a supporter of Mandela and the ANC, wrote about the sentences passed by the judge: "The sentences pronounced by Judge De Wet at the close of the Rivonia trial are both wise and just. The law is best served when there is firmness tinged with

them. He owed his life to them.

MK terrorists. President Obama, when condemning the Boston bombings declared: "Any time bombs are used to target innocent civilians it is an act of terror." Obama denounced the Boston bombings as "cruel", "savage" and "malevolent", yet he still seems to honour a man responsible for many such terror attacks! Obama praises Mandela as his "role model".

Terror Bombing Campaign Nelson Mandela was the head of UmKhonto we Sizwe (MK), the terrorist wing of the ANC and South African Communist Party. He had pleaded guilty to 156 acts of public violence including mobilizing terrorist

mercy, and this was the case yesterday. The sentences could not have been less severe than those imposed. The men found guilty had planned sabotage on a wide scale and had conspired for armed revolution. As the judge pointed out yesterday, the crime of which they were found guilty was really high treason. The death penalty would have been justified."

Controversial Many people may highly respect and idolise Nelson Mandela because of the Invictus film, and the very positive image portrayed through most of the mass media. However, there are many South Africans who would disagree. Nelson Mandela remains a controversial figure.

Crime Wave Under Nelson Mandela's presidency an average of 25,000 people were murdered each year. Yet, to celebrate his birthdays, Nelson Mandela would regularly open prison doors and set many convicted criminals, including armed robbers, murderers and rapists, free. Some of these were murdering and raping within 24 hours of being released. Well over 100,000 people were murdered under Mandela's term as president. Economic Deterioration In the 1970s, even while facing terrorism, riots and a border war with the Cubans in Angola, the South African Rand was stronger than the US Dollar. However, after years of international sanctions, the South African Rand had fallen to R2 to the Dollar. In Mandela's first four years as president, the Rand lost 80% of its value and more than 2.8 million man-days were lost to strikes. The national debt also doubled under Nelson Mandela's presidency. Under Nelson Mandela, even with no war, no sanctions, no riots, no conscription, and with massive international aid and investment, the Rand plummeted to R8 to the Dollar and even to R10 to the Dollar. Even publications such as The Economist described Nelson Mandela's presidency at the time as "a failure". Economic deterioration and skyrocketing crime marred his presidency. Idolising a Mythical Figure

10

Christian Action

-

However, we are meant to forget all these facts, and shelve our pro-life, pro-family, moral convictions and bow before this new idol, sing a politician's praises and effectively burn incense before the image of a new Caesar! Refusal to Compromise Historically, Christians have refused to bow before any idol, or give the worship due to the Creator alone to anyone else. Daniel ended up in the Lion's Den, Shadrack, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into the fiery furnace, and countless Christians were thrown to the lions in the arena for refusing to engage in the statism of their day. An Abuse of Education It would appear to be an abuse of education to require students to write a positive tribute, or dedication, to any political figure, whom they and their family may have serious reservations about. Education is teaching one how to think. Indoctrination is teaching one what to think. Freedom of Conscience In any civilised and free society there needs to be room for dissent. Medical personnel who do not want to be part of an abortion should not be forced against their conscience to participate. A teacher who believes in traditional family values should not be required to teach what they see as immorality and perversion. Nor should any student be required to idolise, whether

through an assignment, or through singing the praises of a politician. Divisive and Offensive Neither is it reasonable to railroad school children in South Africa into a celebrity cult of any past president of South Africa. Politics is frequently divisive. We would be wiser seeking to focus our children's attention on that which is uplifting and edifying to all.

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of slavery‌ For you, my brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." OBAMA faces OPPOSITION in AFRICA

Most Expensive in History Obama's visit to Africa was described as "the most expensive presidential tour ever!" (The cost to the US taxpayer is over US$100 million. This is not counting the cost to the host governments in Africa.) Military cargo planes air lifted in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bulletproof glass to cover the windows of any locations where the first family will stay. Protests Against Obama Protests followed Obama's visit to South Africa. At the University of Johannesburg on 29 June, police fired rubber bullets and a stun grenade into a crowd of hundreds of protesters who were chanting "NObama! NObama!" Demonstrators have brandished posters declaring: "No More Drone Wars!"; "Obama – Mass Murderer!"; "Away with USA"; "Obama Zionist Uncle Tom!"; and "Stop WW3 – Remove Obama". Academic Criticism Steven Friedman, the Director of Rhodes and Johannesburg Universities, has declared: "I

Failed Promises Numerous protesters described Obama as a "liar!" because he had failed to fulfil any of his election pledges of 2008. Abortion and Perversion Pro-life and pro-family groups in Africa express disgust with Obama's administration as the most radical pro-abortion and pro-homosexual in history. "He talks about gay rights, but gays have always had the same rights as anyone else. What Obama

Saint Mandela by Dorothea Scarborough

Since 8 June, former President Nelson Mandela has been in hospital, where he is being treated for a recurring lung infection. The sympathy of the whole country is with him, and the hospital has become a place of pilgrimage, resounding with hymns and prayers, and featuring a shrine of flowers, candles, gifts and messages. The 18th of July, his birthday, is a UN-ordained “Nelson Mandela International Day.” It was his 95th - a day of utter veneration. He was lauded as the “founding father of South Africa,” the creator of “a culture of peace and freedom.” School children had to write him birthday cards, and adults were urged to spend “67 minute” acts of goodwill in his honour. Not since the days of the Pharaohs, the Caesars, or even Lenin and Stalin, has such religious enthusiasm been focussed on one man. Dr Peter Hammond, leader of Frontline Fellowship, comments: “The extravagant praise and idolising of Nelson Mandela as a hero/martyr and ideal example has exceeded all bounds. The mythology and idolatry surrounding the Mandela cult is startling.” And Rev Shaun Willcock of Bible Based Ministries reflects: “In a secular humanist world men hunger for a saviour. They long to fill the spiritual void in their lives. But they have no desire to turn to Christ… So they set up a substitute saviour, and for millions this substitute saviour is Nelson Mandela.” 1) The Cold War The “Madiba Magic” has indeed had a great effect not only on South Africa, but on the world. However, Mandela was not always a man of peace. In 1960, when the African National Congress 12

(ANC) had come under communist control, he set up its “military wing,” Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation), to commit sabotage in the land. He was also involved in “Operation Mayibuye,”- “a comprehensive plan, worked out in the most minute detail, for seizing control of the country by means of sabotage and destruction, coupled with guerilla warfare waged by the masses, who would be supplied with sufficient arms and ammunition to sow terror thoughout the length and breadth of the land.” Operation Mayibuye (=“return”) read: “Our target is that on arrival the external forces should find at least 7000 men in the four main areas ready to join the guerilla army in the initial onslaught. These will be allocated as follows: Eastern Cape – Transkei 2000; Natal – Zululand 2000; North Western Transvaal 2000; North Western Cape 1000…. The preparation for equipping the initial force will take place in three stages, thus: By importation of military supply at two levels: l. build up of fire arms, ammunition and explosives by maintaining a regular flow over a period of time; 2. by landing additional supplies simultaneously with the arrival of our external forces…” 2)

Africa, led by the South African Communist Party, will destroy capitalist society and build in its place socialism. The transition from capitalism to socialism and the liberation of the working class… cannot be effected by slow changes or by reforms… but by revolution. One therefore must be a revolutionary and not a reformist.” 3) - The Rivonia trial was the most famous in the history of South Africa. In the end, Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment. World wide this was regarded as a fair ruling and an act of mercy. For the Rivonia trial was not a political trial. Mandela was not a political prisoner. He was convicted of violence and treason, which at that time might have merited execution.

The revolutionaries’ hide-out at the farm Lilliesleaf, Rivonia was, however, raided and 13 men were indicted. Nelson Mandela was the chief accused, together with Walter Sisulu, Ahmed Kathrada, Govan Mbeki, and others. A confiscated paper written in Mandela’s own hand indicates his thinking at the time: “Under communist rule,” he had written, “South Africa will become a land of milk and honey… The people of South

Mandela likened to Jesus South Africa became the chief target in the Cold War between the superpowers USA and USSR. The Soviets declared that they wanted “to capture the strategically important mineral wealth of South Africa as well as the strategically dominant position of the Cape as a choke point for military purposes.” They wanted to “cut the Western imperialists off from their crucial sources of raw material which would

lead to their final breakdown.” 4) These atheist forces, however, encountered in South Africa a strong Christian bulwark. In order to neutralise this powerful spiritual force, they introduced into the Churches the marxist “liberation theology,” which distorts the teaching of the Bible and presents Jesus as a liberator/terrorist. With the help of the national and international Ecumenical Movements (notably the World and South African Councils of Churches) they made much of the Church into a “site of struggle.” 5) Bishop Tutu declared Mandela to be his leader, and Mandela was increasingly compared with and pictured as a suffering saving Jesus. The ANC set up its own Department of Religious Affairs which kept contact with the Churches. Though they pledged to “liberate the oppressed,” they actually liberated South Africa from Biblical Christianity and God’s moral Law. While still in prison, Nelson Mandela had been offered his freedom again and again, but he refused to forswear violence and commit himself to peace. When he was finally released in 1990, the rate of crime and violence rose -

steeply. One of the most outrageous crimes during the transitional period was the attack on the St James Church of England in Kenilworth, Cape Town, on Sunday, 25 July 1993, terrorists entered the evening Service with grenades and machine guns, killing 11 people and wounding 50. Had it not been for a courageous young worshipper who fired back, who knows how many more people would have lost their lives. Nelson Mandela was released on 1 February 1990. He expressed his thanks to the SA Communist Party and pledged to intensify the armed struggle and the demands for sanctions. Though he appears to be mild, to this day he has not repudiated violence, nor spoken out against the genocide of food-producing farmers, or against the threats associated with his death. Though he was called “a gift of God,” a “Christ-like person who had come to power through suffering,” whose “stone had been rolled away,” and whose “return” had taken place, he did not publicly discourage such accolades. 6) During his time of office from 1994-1999 God’s sovereignty over the nation was abolished. Submission to the Almighty was ended. Prayer in Parliament and in schools was terminated, and the Bible was declared irrelevant. Anti-Christian laws were passed. Gambling, abortion, pornography, prostitution, perversion all

became acceptable. Blasphemy is now tolerated, and the Sabbath has become a shopping day. Archbishop emeritus, Desmond Tutu, a liberation theologian greatly honoured throughout the world, openly defends sin and questions the Bible. He declares: ”Just because something is in the Bible, it is not necessarily true! Gays are precious to God. I cannot serve a homophobic God, and I refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. I would rather go to the other place." 7) Fall of the Soviet Empire But by 1990 the communist danger had passed. The USSR colossus had fallen, the Berlin Wall broken down. A recent book, “How the Soviets and Cubans Lost the War in Southern Africa,” describes how the South African Defence Force (fighting against overpowering numbers of Cubans, Russians and East Germans) saved not only South Africa, but the whole world, from Soviet dominance. This war was fought so skilfully, and the defeat of the communists was so thorough, that the Russians had to leave Angola in haste. Because of his losses, Cuba’s Fidel Castro executed by firing squad his decorated General Arnaldo Ochoa Sanchez. The Soviet Colonel Igor Zhdarkin in Angola wrote, that not even in Afghanistan had they encountered such a foe, and an East German analyst added that South Africa’s success

had significantly contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union, leading to the neutralisation of communism as a viable ideology, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the liberation of the Eastern Bloc countries… The fact is that the SADF bled the Cubans and Soviets dry, to the point that they could no longer afford to continue with their efforts. Their global strategy of controlling Africa, and specifically South Africa, had been a total failure. The SADF was the primary cause of the eventual collapse of the Soviet MiG shot down in Angola. CORRUPTION UNDERMINES RHINO CONSERVATION Why is it Increasing? During a recent Mission to Mpumalanga, I spoke with police and game rangers involved in the war against rhino poaching. They were frustrated. In the year 2000, 7 rhinos were poached. In 2005, 13. In 2008, 83. In 2009, despite widespread outrage and pledges of decisive action by the government, 122 rhino were poached. In 2010, the number of rhinos poached shot up to 333. By 2011 it was 448. 2012 was the worst year in living memory for rhino conservation, 668 rhino were poached. By 5 September 2013, already 618 rhinos have been killed by poachers in South Africa. Rising Rage For the game rangers and police on the ground who have been energetically implementing every measure possible for the protection of rhino, these escalating rhino poaching statistics are disastrous. They are convinced that there is corruption at a high level, enabling the poachers to loot our wildlife heritage. Rhinos at Risk In 1900, there were over 500,000 white rhino in Africa. Today there are less than 20,000 (barely 5%) left. The 18,800 white rhino left in South Africa represent 95% of Africa's total white rhino. Catastrophic The situation for the black rhino is even more catastrophic. In 1960, there were 100,000 black rhino in Africa. Today there are barely 4,000, of which 40% are in

South Africa. The World Wildlife Fund reports that South Africa's "superlative conservation record of more than a century is under threat." On the Frontline The frontline of this battle for the survival of the rhino is being fought in the Kruger National Park, home to half of South Africa rhino population. Game rangers and police are involved in a deadly battle in that 20,000km² (7,722 mile²) wildlife sanctuary. There have been an increasing number of shoot-outs between Kruger National Park security forces and the poachers. In almost every one of these encounters, the poachers, although very heavily armed, are killed, wounded, or captured. Bringing Poachers to Justice There are now 267 people facing charges related to rhino crimes in South Africa. In November a Thai citizen, Chumlong Lemtongthai, was sentenced to 40 years in prison, for his involvement in rhino poaching. Dismantled Border Fence Major General Johan Jooste, a military veteran from the Border War, heads up the Kruger National Park combined security forces. He reports that the worst problem has been that of poachers, swarming across the park's 375km (233 mile) border with Mozambique. Against the advice of many wildlife specialists, the Parks Board dismantled most of the border fence in order to amalgamate

with the newly proclaimed Trans Limpopo Conservation area, which was meant to give Kruger National Parks wildlife more roaming territory. However, all it has succeeded in doing was increasing the killing field of the poachers in Mozambique. Mozambique Connection All the 314 rhino located into the Mozambique section of this park have already been killed by poachers. Now the poachers, funded by international crime syndicates, are mobilizing their poaching operations from Mozambique into the Kruger National Park. They are using the Maputo harbour and airport to smuggle the rhino horn to Vietnam and China. Hot Pursuit General Jooste has reported on the pattern of poachers fleeing across the border to Mozambique, some actually waving mockingly at their pursuers once on Mozambique soil. The wildlife conservation agencies are urging the South African and Mozambique governments to agree to the principle of "hot pursuit", which will allow National Parks Security personnel to pursue poachers into Mozambique. Corruption Runs Deep However, the World Wildlife Fund points out that "corruption

runs deep on both sides." of the border. TRAFFIC, an international wildlife trade monitoring network, reports that "the complicity of South African national and provincial officials undertaking, or enabling, illegal trade has been documented. In terms of killing rhinos, four government rangers were arrested in the Kruger National Park in 2012, and at the Atherstone Nature Reserve in Limpopo, the reserve manager committed suicide after allegedly being implicated in five rhino deaths. Provincial administrators have repeatedly turned a blind eye to pseudo hunting, especially in the North West and Limpopo Provinces and allowed rhino hunts that violate TOPS (Threatened Or Protected Species) regulations." Pervasive and Persistent Wildlife specialists maintain: "Corruption among government senior officials, escalating down to rangers, remains a persistent problem." Conservation scientists are reporting that "Corrupt game industry insiders are now poaching rhino alongside other criminal groups – all wellorganised, well-financed and highly mobile." "How long will the land lie parched and the grass in every field be withered? Because those who live in it are wicked, the animals and birds have perished." Jeremiah 12:4

Failure of Justice System Wildlife personnel that I have spoken to have expressed their frustration with the failure of the criminal justice system to effectively prosecute the violent and ruthless criminals involved in this industry of poaching rhino horn. On numerous occasions, prosecutors have failed to do their duty, on other occasions, judges have let the culprits off lightly.
