About AFLV Vision: All fraternity/sorority members exemplify ethical values.

Mission: The Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values (AFLV) provides exceptional experiences that challenge and encourage fraternity & sorority members to live ethical values and implement best practices. AFLV stimulates the growth and development of fraternity/sorority council and chapter leaders by promoting leadership, educational, and values based experiences and resources for student leaders, their advisors, and the larger fraternal market. AFLV is the showcase for cutting-edge fraternity & sorority programming, technology, thinking, and concepts. The annual conferences are the premier programs of AFLV. The conferences offer comprehensive coverage of issues for both men and women and members of all councils and chapters including IFC, NPHC, NPC, NALFO, and MGC. The annual leadership conferences provide educational sessions, outstanding nationally recognized keynote speakers, and several featured speakers to meet the diverse needs of over 4,000 students. Additionally, AFLV provides training and professional development opportunities for campus advisors, house directors, fraternity/sorority headquarters staff, and volunteers through our various programs and services. 1

Leadership Introducing A New Executive Director On June 30, 2016, AFLV announced the new promotion of Ryan O’Rourke to serve in the position of Executive Director, succeeding the organization’s founding Executive Director, Mark Koepsell. Ryan joined AFLV in 2012 after 7 years as a higher education/student affairs professional. Most recently, Ryan served as the Assistant Executive Director within AFLV. Ryan shared, “I am humbled to be given this opportunity, and I am excited to continue collaboratively building a leadership and values experience that focuses on the development of fraternity and sorority members at all levels across the country.” “AFLV is in the right place within its evolution to see new leadership, and there is no doubt Ryan is the right person to lead AFLV now and into the future. The impact he has had within the organization is already well-established, but the sky is the limit moving forward. We should all be enthusiastic to see what lies ahead for AFLV under his leadership,” stated Mark Koepsell, who will serve in an emeritus role within AFLV for the next year in celebration of his 10 years of service to AFLV, and formerly MGCA, as Executive Director. AFLV Board Chair, Parice Bowser, shared her thoughts about Mark, “We thank Mark and others for their leadership in creating AFLV and taking it from a simple idea to a national organization that has impacted so many members of fraternity & sorority. As Mark continues his work with other organizations, I can only hope they gain as much from him as we have.” Mark remains the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Synergos, Association Management Company, which is co-owned by AFLV. Koepsell states, “While I will always look back at my time with AFLV with great fondness, the outcome of this transition builds more capacity for me to focus on the evergrowing AMC and the other clients we serve. This is a win-win across the board.” Ryan O’Rourke assumed the role of Executive Director on July 1, 2016. 3

On campuses, there are fraternity & sorority members who want to strengthen the values conversation within their communities, but they aren’t sure how to begin. FVS serves as a catalyst for that conversation, and seeks to ensure values are deeply integrated into the contemporary fraternity and sorority experience. 11

The AFLV Awards & Assessment Program is designed specifically to assist councils in achieving the highest level of excellence possible in their programming and council management. The program outlines the actions and policies of an ideal council. As such, if councils utilize the program for goal setting and as a guide for action and visionary accomplishment, they will be well on the road to achieving excellence. Participating councils receive a full assessment report measuring both their own longitudinal progress as well as benchmarking them against peer councils. 12
