Helpful Tips

1. You have your Fair Guide – great start!

2. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

3. While keeping your options open,

As you walk around, make notes about the galleries or works of art you liked.

Speaking to exhibitors is a great way to gain exclusive insight, and they are always happy to talk about the artists they represent.

try to envision where in your home or office you may want to place an artwork. Choosing to buy a piece of art is a personal decision and often made because a work "speaks" to you. However, it is also okay to take into consideration practical matters such as the size of the wall in your living room!

Sofia Pomar Lighting 2011 Mixed media 8 x 8 in $280 Consorcio de Arte, Booth F-5

Norman Lerner New York Grand Central Station Waiting Room 1952 photograph 1 9 x 13 in $1,500 Zatista.com, Booth A-10

Aurora Hernando Senoritas (detail) 2011 Serigraphy on ceramic 11 x 11 x 5 in $440 STANDARTE, Booth A-3

4. While what constitutes "affordable" is subjective, there is almost certainly work available to suit most budgets. Many galleries offer installment plans, take credit cards, or have perhaps an unframed work or smaller print that may just be more in your budget!

Emilio Jimenez Paisaje (detail) 2007 Mixed media on wood panel 39 x 20 in $1,499 Art Angler, Booth E-12

5. After you walk around the Fair, take a few moments to reflect on what you like and consider your top choices. If you decide to wait and come back tomorrow, don’t be surprised if your favorite work has been sold!

Patricia Barrowman Kweit 2010 Paper and metal structure 17 x 22 x 11 in $1,500 galerie MX, Booth B-6

6. Enjoy the Fair! The Affordable Art Fair NYC is a fun event, so have a good time. Join in a program, meet an artist, or take a break in our café.

Ian Trask Fuzzy Interstices 2011 Elastic and linen 32 x 33 in In affiliation with The Invisible Dog Art Center, Booth A-A

Ian Trask is a sculptor who explores the inherent aesthetics of material waste. 1-900-PAN-TONE and Fuzzy Interstices were created by combining objects from the modern-day fine arts and design industries with older materials salvaged from a textile factory in Brooklyn. All material donations were courtesy of The Invisible Dog, Axelle Fine Arts, and Project 13.

10 Installations

Steven and William Ladd Gma, Gma 2, 2010 Archival board, fiber, metal 33.5 x 33.5 x 10.5 in In affiliation with The Invisible Dog Art Center, Booth A-A William: W e worked in our Gma's gigantic rose garden. Steven: 250 rose bushes. It was beautiful. William: W hen we moved away, she implemented "You work for me, you fly for free." Steven: Recently we came across a bunch of buckles and trinkets in a defunct factory, now The Invisible Dog Art Center, and made this work. William: Our industrial rose garden.

Kelly Zelen Interior 2, 2008 Steel wool and wire 84 in Courtesy of Lilybranch, Booth F-10 Kelly’s work explores our delicate nature, our leakage. The slight wrinkle on our face or the smallest muscle contraction tells a sensitive secret. The steel wool flesh is as strong as our own skin and as temporary as our lives.

Trey Speegle THE FIVE BOXING WIZARDS JUMP QUICKLY, 2011 Mixed media 16 x 20 in (each) Courtesy of LittleCollector.com, Annex 7 Trey Speegle uses vintage paint-bynumbers as reference and inspiration for this work. The multi-media collage series uses paint, pencil, ephemera and elements from vintage paint-by-numbers

kits as raw material to create unique initial collages. The phrase uses every single letter in the alphabet at least once, and when combined, conjures up a mental picture that could be a childhood wish or fantasy. Claudia Ferrari Parallel Realities, Anatomy of a Landscape, 2011 Enamel on polished clear vinyl 59 x 98 in Courtesy of Buenos Aires Open Art, Booth C-8 Parallel Realities, Anatomy of a Landscape is about a Kabbalistic principle that what surrounds us is but a mirror of the upper worlds. In Kabbalah, "Tiferet" means beauty, and this is what the artist tries to convey in this work. Sometimes our lives go through dark passages but there is always a light, a way out. We can affect what surrounds us with our actions, and this will ultimately have an effect on others and in our everyday life. The Invisible Dog Art Center’s Open Artist Studio, Booth A-A New York artists, the Ladd brothers, Steven and William, will move their studio to the Fair. The Invisible Dog Art Center invites you to get a peek behind the curtain as they make glass bead panels on the loom, paper grenades, and anything else that strikes their fancy. MakerBot Industries, 2011 Courtesy of ArtStar.com, Booth A-2 MakerBot is an affordable, open source 3D printer you build yourself. It makes almost anything up to 5 x 5 x 5 in and prints with ABS and PLA (biodegradable) plastic. www.makerbot.com

Katie Allen Frozen Lake, 2011 Acrylic on board 48 x 48 in Courtesy of Cube Gallery, Booth B-9 Katie draws inspiration from art traditions and movements of the past and present for her paintings. Basing her work on the Welsh landscape and paying particular attention to color and design, Katie aims to create unique paintings that are beautiful and well crafted. Emma Hack Wallpaper Wallflowers, 2011 Paint on skin Courtesy of Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, Booth C-2 Acclaimed Australian body illustrator Emma Hack creates her famed Wallpaper Wallflowers. Emma seamlessly blends one of her models into a gorgeous Florence Broadhurst wallpaper design. Emma has won many awards for her photographic illusion works featuring a strong sense of feminine spirit within the female form holding birds and animals, at one with their surroundings. An emerging artist to watch, this is Emma's first opportunity to show her work in the U.S.
