Full season security against vine weevil Make your plants safe this season with ICL Comprehensive yearround bio-control plan for vine weevil New innovative products including Pitcher Top of the range Seeka nematodes powered by BASF technology

Support sustainable growing

Times are changing and the move from chemical to biological control is here. This means growers will need to plan the season ahead using other methods of control against vine weevil. ICL have developed a coordinated approach to control vine weevil using new growing technologies which can be incorporated in to a comprehensive IPM plan to combat the prevalent pest.

Plant Protection Pitcher - the biorational pesticide designed to suppress vine weevil eggs and early stage instar larvae Seeka - beneficial nematodes specifically created to target vine weevil

Enhance the efficacy with Transporter - a revolutionary penetrant formulation which aids nematode dispersion Sp0tless - a highly formulated cleaning agent for removing residues harmful to biological controls The new Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programme from ICL will future-proof your business and deliver all-round full season control. It’s also been designed to meet current and forthcoming regulatory requirements. ICL will support growers through this period of change providing world class advice and planning tools to make sure that the implementation of new measures is put in place. This will help protect plants throughout the growing season and help increase return on investment.

Pitcher GR. The new biorational pesticide for the suppression of vine weevil eggs and early stage instar larvae. It is approved through an Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use (EAMU) in containerised ornamental plants, both protected and outdoors. • Granular biorational insecticide • Part of an IPM solution to the problem of vine weevil • No resistance or re-entry periods • Low impact on non-target organisms How does it work? The active ingredient in Pitcher is garlic extract. Contained within the active ingredient are a unique range of Diallyl polysulfides (DAS). It is these compounds that provide the lethal biochemistry. When a vine weevil egg or early stage instar encounters Diallyl polysulfide (DAS) molecules they penetrate through the skin

Rate of passage through the cuticle is dependent on sulphur chain length

Once the DAS dissolve through the cuticle of the organism the lethal biochemistry starts

The action of DAS is initiated following a reaction with intracellular low molecular weight thiols (LMT's) and protein thiols in the organism

This leads to a cascade chain reaction within the organism which it can't regulate causing it to die due to overwhelming oxidative stress

The oxidative stress affects many cellular processes so it is very unlikely that resistance could ever evolve to the chemistry

How is it created?

When garlic is subject to mechanical stress, it releases two sulphur compounds which creates a range of DAS

Application Pitcher is a granular biorational insecticide which is applied as a topdress over containerised ornamentals. Application can be via gloved hand (not a preferred method of application) or a suitable handheld application device.

When to apply It is important to know when to apply Pitcher for maximum efficacy and therefore understanding the vine weevil life cycle is a key part of utilising this product.

Important information

It is important to note that all stages of the lifecycle can be present throughout the year in protected crops. It is important that you check your plants in these situations for the pest.

• A minimum period of six weeks should be observed after initial application before any subsequent treatments of Pitcher or beneficial parasitic nematodes can be applied. • Pitcher is not affected by temperature fluctuations unlike some other biological products.

Year Round Plan Incorporating all products against vine weevil in the ICL protect range. This year round plan offers control against both egg and larval stages of vine weevil. Seeka works when growing media temperatures are >12-30°C and Seeka CT works in temperatures from > 5-30°C. ICL’s biorational ‘Pitcher GR’ (which is not temperature dependent); a granular insecticide, offers control of the egg and early instar larval stages on vine weevil. This plan is intended to control two of the life cycle stages of vine weevil (egg and larval and the timing of application has been designed to coincide with when these stages are most likely to appear. Spring/Summer Plan The Spring/Summer plan starts with applications of Seeka CT which works from growing media temps between > 5-30°C. This will help control any larval populations of vine weevil that may have overwintered from the following season. This is then followed up by applications of Pitcher GR which will help control the egg stage of vine weevil with the application timing designed to coincide with when adults have emerged and are actively laying eggs. Prior to sale, an application of Seeka nematodes will help control any surviving larval populations. Autumn/Winter Plan The Autumn/Winter plan starts with an application of Seeka to help control any vine weevil larvae that may be present from eggs laid from adults during the summer. This is then followed up with applications of Seeka CT which offers extended control late in the season as it works in temperatures down to 5°C in the growing media which is ideal for Autumn and Christmas sales.

Sp0tless Nursery is a highly formulated cleaning agent for the cleaning and decontamination of spraying equipment. It is especially effective at clearing sticky formulations. Sp0tless is ideal for cleaning out tanks pre and post-nematode application which will help increase efficacy and decrease the chances of cross contamination. Benefits • Maintains the effectiveness of spray equipment • Decontaminates sprayer after use • It is especially effective at clearing sticky formulations (sulfonylurea (Group B) and carfentrazone-ethyl (Group G) herbicides)

Directions for use 1. Immediately after spraying and completely emptying tank, hoses and booms. Wash any contamination on the outside of spraying equipment with Sp0tless (25–50 ml in 10 L water) 2. Rinse inside of tank with clean water and flush through hoses and booms using 10% of tank spray volume. Drain tank completely. 3. Half fill the tank with clean water and add Sp0tless Tank Cleaner at the selected rate. Agitate and briefly flush the hoses, boom, and nozzles. Then completely fill tank with water and agitate for 15 minutes. Flush the hoses and spray all the contents out through the boom. Drain the tank completely. 4. Nozzles, screens, and filters should be cleaned with a fresh solution of Tank Cleaner and water (50 ml in 10L of water). 5. Rinse the tank with clean water and flush through the hoses and boom. Drain the tank completely. Adhering to best practice in terms of waste disposal. 6. Sample of final rinse may be applied to a susceptible plant to ensure total decontamination. 7. Can be used with all spray applications. Recommended period of use Year-round NOTE: If it is not possible to drain the tank completely, repeat step 3 before going on to step 4. For large sprayers with internal sprinklers, it is not necessary to completely fill the tank. With agitation and sprinklers running ensure contact time between the cleaning solution and all internal tank surfaces of 15 to 30 minutes.

Spray tank cleaning agent

For extra resistant combinations, allow the cleaning solution to ‘sit’ for 24 hours to increase residue removal. If it is suspected hoses and spray lines are contaminated increase cleaning solution contact time to 48 hours.
