Dominicana abrió con triunfo sobre Surinam LA HABANA, Cuba, 21 de mayo, 2014.- LA SELECCIÓN DOMINICANA abrió con victoria sobre Surinam 3-0 en la apertura del Torneo Clasificatorio NORCECA Grupo P del Campeonato Mundial Masculino de Voleibol de la FIVB con sede en Polonia en septiembre próximo. En la Ciudad Deportiva, los dominicanos ganaron con parciales de 25-15, 25-19 y 25-21, el último más reñidos al bajar el nivel y los surinameses llegar delante en ambos tiempos técnicos (4-8 y 13-16), pero lograron un rally de saques para cerrar con éxito. José Miguel Cáceres con 16 puntos fue el máximo anotador, escoltado por Elvi Contreras y Germán Recio, ambos con 10 , mientras por los adversarios Roberto Joval y Keven Sporkslede solo llegaron a siete tantos cada uno. Jose Ángel Cutiño, entrenador de Dominicana, explicó que todavía su equipo no ha engranado su máquina, "pero reconozco que ya en estos últimos días con ellos hemos logrado más unidad, ya se ven los resultados, pero todavía falta". Por su parte, el capitán Wilfrido Hernández reconoció que no estuvieron muy bien porque ahora es que se acoplan, "en el tercero nos confiamos y tuvimos esa baja, pero nosotros tenemos más de lo que demostramos hoy".
