Learning BDMAS ●

By Juliette & $arah

After reading this media text, you will be able to do BDMAS. You will be able to do the steps, and know the order of operations. Hope this helps!

What does BDMAS mean? BDMAS is the order of operations. The order is: Brackets Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction This is the “proper” way of completing equations.

Example Of A Bracket Equation ●

An example of a bracket equation would be... ●

● ●

8+(4x3)=?

How you figure it out...

First you follow the order of operations and do brackets first. Everything else stays the same. ● ●

8+12 (4x3 is 12.)

Then you add 12 and 8, and the answer is............

Example Of A Division Equation ●

An example of a division equation: 3-20

5 ●

What you do.....

Division comes first, so you do 20 divided by 5. 5-

20

=5–4 =

5

Example Of A Multiplication Equation An example of a multiplicatoin equation: 5+6x2

How you figure it out... You do multiplication first, so 6x2=... 5+ =

Example Of An Addition Equation â—?

An example of an addition equation: 2x5+6

How you figure it out... Since multiplication comes first you do 2x5. It equals 10. 22x5 x5+6 =10 + 6 =16

Example Of A Subtraction Equation An example of a subtractoin equation: 16

4-3

How you figure it out... You do division first then subtract. 16

4-3

=4–3 =

Hope This Helped! Now that you learned all the steps, try completing this question using the order of operations! (5 + 6) x 2 + 3

1–6

Now try figuring it out on a piece of paper.

Did you figure it out? This is how WE did it: (5 + 6) x 2 + 3 = 11 x 2 + 3 = 22 + 3 =22 + 3 - 6 = 25 – 6 =
