Costs and Expenses Missouri State University is an affordable choice and an unbeatable value. We provide a comprehensive program of scholarships and financial aid assistance. This assistance – along with costs that are lower than those at most private colleges and some Missouri public institutions – makes Missouri State a great value!

This guide describes sources of aid available to entering freshmen and transfer students on the Springfield campus. While it attempts to answer common financial aid questions, we encourage you to call or visit our office for additional information.

More than 17,800 of our students annually receive in excess of $130 million in financial aid. We encourage all students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for all available types of financial aid.

Required student fees include basic fees (charge per credit hour) and student services fees ($389 per semester). These fees are commonly referred to as tuition. The fees listed above are based on 15 credit hours per semester. The basic fee is $200.48 per credit hour for Missouri residents.

Scholarships The first step in receiving scholarships at Missouri State is being admitted to the University. Applying for scholarships Our top three competitive scholarships, the Presidential, Multicultural Leadership, and Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders, require a specific application that must be submitted by December 1. Application deadlines for other scholarship opportunities will vary. See the summary of freshman scholarships on the following page for information regarding these scholarships and how to apply. For our automatic scholarships, you need only to submit an application for admission to the University by

January 15 if you are entering for the fall semester, or by October 1 if entering for the spring semester. GED students and students admitted as exceptions to the high school core curriculum requirement will not receive scholarships unless approved by the Scholarship Committee. Formal appeals for special scholarship consideration should be directed to the assistant director of scholarships, Office of Student Financial Aid.

General information The following general information applies to all of the scholarships listed in the following pages. ■■

Grade point averages (gpas) are based on a 4.00 scale. In determining scholarship eligibility, grade point averages will be rounded to the nearest 0.01.

If your high school provides both a weighted and an unweighted gpa, we will use the higher of the two to determine your eligibility for scholarships.

■■

Unless otherwise noted, class percentile and gpa are based on the sixth or seventh semester transcript, whichever is higher.

■■

Students must have a diploma from a high school accredited by the state education agency, a regional accrediting association or a home-school diploma with the core curriculum requirement established by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education.

■■

Students who are provisionally accepted to the University may not be considered for scholarships. Scores from the December act/sat are the last to be accepted for most freshman scholarships (with the exception of the Presidential, the Multicultural Leadership and the Centennial Leaders scholarships, which use an earlier date). Missouri State sat requirements are based on a sum of the Critical Reading and Mathematics sub scores. The Writing score is not included in evaluation.

Freshman scholarships are limited to students who enter Missouri State the calendar year they graduate from high school. Students who graduate early from high school and attend Missouri State may be considered for freshman scholarships on an individual basis. Scholarship requirements and deadlines will still apply.

Transfer scholarships are limited to students who will enter the University having completed the required number of transferable college credit subsequent to graduation from high school.

Current students are not eligible to apply for entering student scholarships.

Students may accept or decline scholarship offers until May 1 for the fall semester or Jan. 1 for the spring semester.

Unless otherwise noted, scholarships cannot be combined and are only renewable for up to three additional years (eight semesters total).

Courses taken at other colleges or universities or credit by examination will not be included in scholarship renewal calculations.

Students who are invited to interview for the Presidential Scholarship will be considered.

Top 20 percent of class (or 3.70 gpa on a 4.00 scale) after the sixth or seventh semester and minimum act of 26 (or sat of 1170*). Students who rank first or second in their class after the sixth or seventh semester are also eligible.

Successfully complete 30 Missouri State credit hours each year with a minimum 3.40 Missouri State grade point average.

Top 20 percent of class (or 3.70 gpa on a 4.00 scale) after the sixth or seventh semester and act score of 24 or 25 (or sat of 1090*).

Successfully complete 30 Missouri State credit hours each year with a minimum 3.30 Missouri State grade point average.

Entering freshmen must either rank in the top onehalf of their class or have a 3.00 gpa on a 4.00 scale after the sixth semester, combined with a composite act of 20 (or sat of 950*). Interviews will be conducted on Saturday, February 23, 2013.

Renewable for one year for students who successfully complete 24 Missouri State hours with a 2.75 Missouri State cumulative grade point average and participate in the Centennial Leaders Program.

Complete the online scholarship application at www.missouristate.edu/centennialapp/. Deadline: Complete application and apply for admission by Dec. 1. Applicants are encouraged to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (fafsa).

Entering freshmen must rank either in the upper one-half of their class or have a 3.00 gpa on a 4.00 scale after the sixth semester and have demonstrated leadership in multicultural school or community activities or organizations. Interviews will be conducted on Saturday, February 09, 2013.

The Multicultural Leadership Scholarship will require successful completion of 24 Missouri State credit hours each year with a 2.75 Missouri State cumulative grade point average and participation in the Inclusive Excellence Program.

Complete the Multicultural Leadership Application (available in hard copy and online at www.missouristate.edu/multiculturalapp) and return to the Multicultural Services office. Deadline: Complete application and apply for admission by Dec. 1.

Students who are invited to interview for the Multicultural Leadership Scholarship will be considered.

Southwest Missouri high schools may recommend one student for every 100 graduates. The southwest district includes schools in the following counties: Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Douglas, Greene, Howell, Jasper, Laclede, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Oregon, Ozark, Polk, Shannon, Stone, Taney, Texas, Vernon, Webster and Wright.

Students must be classified as nonresidents for fee purposes and must have a parent or grandparent who is a Missouri State graduate.

Financial Aid Applying for financial aid 1. In order to be considered for all possible financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (fafsa). a. Online To submit your fafsa online, visit www.fafsa.gov/. Complete the fafsa in time for it to be received by the processor prior to March 31. Applications will be accepted after this date, but funds may be limited. To make sure your fafsa is sent to Missouri State, you must list Missouri State as one of the schools to receive your results. The Missouri State federal school code is 002503. b. In Person The fafsa is available from the Office of Student Financial Aid or your high school or community college in January of each year. 2. After you submit your application for financial aid, you will be notified that your fafsa was received. This acknowledgement will include your Student Aid Report (sar). Read this information carefully to make sure it is accurate. If it is not, make the necessary corrections and return it to the processor. You may contact the processing center at 800-4fed-aid (800-433-3243) for assistance. 3. Federal regulations require Missouri State to verify information reported on the FAFSA for randomly selected students. For this reason, some applicants will be required to submit photocopies of their income tax returns to the Office of Student Financial Aid. Using a formula established by Congress, the fafsa determines how much you and your family are expected to provide toward the cost of your education each year. This formula takes into consideration family income and assets, family size, the number of children in college and many other factors to determine your annual Expected Family Contribution (efc). If you feel the information reported on the fafsa does not reflect your family’s true financial situation, contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for a special circumstances form. 4. After determining your efc, we will calculate your financial aid award. In April, eligible first-time students will receive notice that an online award letter has been created for them. This online award letter will list the types and amount of assistance that can be offered from Missouri State. You must access this award letter via the “My Missouri State” system at Missouri State and either accept or decline the aid offered before your funds will be released. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to remain eligible for aid.

Need-based programs Many federal aid programs are available on the basis of financial need (defined as the difference between the amount of money you and your family can contribute toward financing your education and the total cost of attendance). Eligibility for these programs can be determined only after evaluation of your family’s financial status as determined by the results of the fafsa. All need-based aid is awarded according to a formula established by the federal government. The formula evaluates income, assets and other measures of financial strength. The following sources of financial aid require students to qualify according to the formula.

This program allows students the opportunity to earn while they learn, integrating academic study with career-related employment. Hundreds of Missouri State students participate in co-op and departmental internships with local, regional and national organizations. Missouri State co-op students often go to work full-time for their co-op employers following graduation.

Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)

A program of the United States Army designed to recruit and educate commissioned officers. ROTC is an elective part of the college curriculum and interested students earn college credit while they participate. Students are later absorbed into the United States Army. rotc scholarships may include up to $17,000 toward required student fees per year, a $600 book allowance and a $250 stipend per month. Room and board is not included.

To enroll, obtain an application from your high school counselor and submit it to the U.S. Army Cadet Command before the specified deadline.

Student Employment Services

Employment on campus or in the community is available to many Missouri State students.

The University maintains a Student Employment Service to assist enrolled students in locating jobs. Students may register with this office and be referred to jobs that are compatible with their schedules and work experience. Employment on campus or in the community is available to many Missouri State students. Approximately 2,000 students work part-time on campus and more than 6,000 hold part-time jobs off campus. This pre-screening and referral service is free and available throughout the year. The Student Employment Service Office is located in Blair-Shannon House, Room 113, at 417-836-5627.

Study-Away Programs

Long-term and short-term loan programs to allow students the opportunity to study abroad. Students enrolled in study-away programs that are approved for credit by Missouri State may be eligible to apply federal, state and institutional financial aid toward program costs.

Privately donated funds are given each year to Missouri State University students who demonstrate qualifications such as, but not limited to, outstanding academic achievement, leadership involvement and financial need. The funds come from private gifts to the University by individuals, groups or companies. Scholarship values and availability reflect current market activity and are subject to change without notice. These scholarships can be combined with our institutionally funded scholarships. Application: To apply for these scholarships, you must first be admitted to the University. Bernice Gabriel Memorial Scholarship When awarded to an entering freshman from a Missouri high school, consideration is given to those who rank in the upper 3 percent of their class and have a minimum act of 28.

B. Frank and Ora Dale (Ryan) Gillette Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from Ash Grove High School with financial need. Bill and Virginia Ralls Darr Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from southern Reynolds County r-ii high school, Ellington, Mo. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and to leadership qualities. Bowler Family Memorial Scholarship Student must be a graduate from a Springfield, Mo., high school. First preference will be given to graduates of Glendale High School, second to graduates of Kickapoo High School and third to graduates of Central High School. Preference will be given to an individual who works to provide supplemental income for schooling throughout his/her college career. Carol D. Jones Endowed Scholarship Fund Consideration will be given to a student who demonstrates high school performance, college potential, leadership qualities and evidence of strong motivation. Central High School Academic Scholarship Award Student must be an entering freshman from Springfield Central High School in top 20 percent of graduating class. Dannyale Denise Gaines Alpha Kappa Alpha Memorial Scholarship Student must be an African-American woman graduating from a Springfield, Mo., high school or Blue Springs High School in Kansas City. Dollie Jones Bittenbender Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from Pleasant Hope High School. Consideration will be given to students who are valedictorian, salutatorian or graduate in the upper 10 percent of the graduating class. Student must be enrolled full-time. Duane G. and â&#x20AC;&#x2122;Lyn Meyer Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman who demonstrates outstanding academic performance as indicated by class rank and test scores. Financial need is considered when the selection cannot be completed because of equal academic records. Elsie L. Plaster Endowed Scholarship Fund First preference will be given to graduates of Neosho High School in Neosho, Mo., second to graduates of other Newton County high schools and third to graduates statewide. Consideration will be given to high school leadership and citizenship qualities as well as participation in any and all extracurricular activities. Recipient must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester. E.R. Smith Scholarship Award Student must be a graduate of Dadeville High School, Dade County, Mo. Evans and Aleene McReynolds Memorial Scholarship Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. Financial need is considered. Evelyn A. Fran and Cliff Whipple Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to any student in good academic standing at any level. Preference will be given for a nontraditional female student and/or a female student of American Indian ancestry. Financial need is considered. Gene Edwards Memorial Scholarship Student must be a graduate of Webster Groves High School and must be in the top 50 percent of the high school graduating class, or have a 3.20 gpa or above, or an act composite score of 24 or more. Recipient must also be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester. Hardy and Betty Baker Scholarship Student must be a graduate of either Neosho or Crane High School who is majoring in education.

IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Scholarship (Two scholarships in honor of Ray Edwards and Jack Moore, respectively). Student must be an incoming freshman who is the child of a member of the 11th ibew District (which includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri). Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. I.W. Buster and Emogene Fuge Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from Hartville High School. Consideration will be given to high school performance and leadership qualities. Financial need is also considered. James E. Bane Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman with financial need. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. Jean Freeman Scholarship Fund Student must be an entering freshman with a minimum cumulative 2.0 gpa in high school. This scholarship is available to all qualified graduating students from the Ozarks region with preference being given to minority students. Consideration will be given to character, citizenship, potential and financial need. Jerry Fortner Memorial Scholarship Student must be in good standing and have demonstrated financial need. Jessie M. Ross Memorial Scholarship Student whose academic record will not qualify them for other scholarships are eligible. Recipients must be enrolled at least 12 hours each semester. Jim Ferguson Diversity Enhancement Scholarship Student must be an entering African-American. First preference will be given to graduates of Springfield (Mo.) high schools; followed by Greene and Christian counties high schools; then the remainder of 24-county area of southwest Missouri and finally statewide. If students are not available in the above-mentioned areas, then applicants from outside the state of Missouri will be considered. Financial need is a consideration. John Parker and Mildred Coats Parker Scholarship Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. Preference to be given to Mountain Grove High School graduates. Mahala Denney Scholarship Two sets of criteria to be followed: Full Incidental Fee Scholarship â&#x20AC;&#x201D; Student must be an entering freshman from Seymour High School or traditional 24-county area of southwest Missouri who has achieved a minimum 2.5 high school gpa. Full Educational Expense â&#x20AC;&#x201D; Student must be an entering freshman from traditional 24-county area of southwest Missouri who has achieved a minimum 3.0 high school gpa. Martin Luther King Memorial Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from a Springfield high school who has demonstrated scholarship and leadership through contribution to the black community. Mary Jean (Price) Walls Multicultural Leadership Scholarship This scholarship will be awarded to two students annually. One student must be an incoming freshman with a high school gpa of at least a 3.0 who exhibits a multicultural background. Missouri State Alumni/St. Louis Leadership Scholarship Student must be from the St. Louis area, including residents of St. Louis, St. Charles and Jefferson counties. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential, leadership qualities and evidence of strong motivation. When awarded to a transfer student, the student must have achieved an overall 2.75 gpa. Rosemary Frankenberger Scholarship Student must have an overall gpa of 3.0. Roy Ellis Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from a southwest Missouri high school with financial need. Sports Shake/Lake Country Soccer Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from a Springfield high school who participated in varsity soccer. Students who have participated in more than two years of Springfield high school soccer will be given first priority in consideration regardless of gpa. The recipient may not participate in any intercollegiate athletic sport at Missouri State while receiving the scholarship because it is a violation of NCAA rules. Terry Lynn Washam Memorial Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from a Lawrence County, Mo., high school. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. Recipients must be enrolled full-time. Financial need is considered. Thomas and Betty O’Sullivan/Tandy Corporation Scholarship Student must be an undergraduate who is a child or grandchild of a current employee of O’Sullivan Industries. Financial need and academic performance are considered.

Robert and Patricia Schmidt Foundation Scholarship Preference will be given to students who identify themselves as children or grandchildren of Eagle companies’ employees (Eagle Communications, Inc. and Eagle Farm and Ranch, llc). Student must also be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester and otherwise satisfy the college’s standard policies.

Tom Chaney Memorial Scholarship (for graduates of Clever High School) Student must be an entering freshman from Clever High School.

Robert B. Noble Scholarship Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. Preference will be given to a dependent of a current employee of Noble Communications Company. All other criteria being equal, financial need is considered to select a recipient.

Vi Pollard Memorial Missouri State Dames Scholarship Student must have financial need and satisfactory scholarship. Preference will be given to an upper-class single parent returning after an absence.

Robert M. and Edith Garst Endowed Fund Student must be a graduate of Marshfield High School. Roma and Edna Durington Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from Buffalo High School. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and to leadership qualities. Recipients must be enrolled in full-time (12 hours). Financial need also considered.

Rosalie Covert Scholarship Student must be a graduate of Lockwood (Mo.) High School and seeking a major within the College of Education in preparation for becoming a teacher. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities.

Traveling Men’s Booster Club Scholarship Student must demonstrate financial need and satisfactory scholarship.

Warren C. (Pete) Rauch Memorial Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from Monett High School and enroll for 12 credit hours or more for the fall semester after the graduation. The recipient will be selected based on scholarship, financial need and personal character.

Washington D.C. Area Alumni Chapter Scholarship First preference will be given to incoming freshman from a high school in the Washington D.C. Area Alumni Chapter service area including Washington, D.C.; Virginia and Maryland, second to children or grandchildren of Missouri State alumni who reside in the Washington D.C. Alumni Chapter Scholarship service area and third, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by the aptitude test, leadership qualities and recommendations made by the scholarship search committee. William Duke Hiett Memorial Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from Houston High School in Missouri. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities (either academically or athletically). Financial need also is considered.

Wayne Allee Memorial Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman from Camden County R-II High School in Stoutland, Mo. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities.

William Elmer Ryan Scholarship Fund Student must be an entering freshman from a public high school in Springfield, Mo., ranking in the top 15 percent of his/her class. Consideration will be given to character and financial need.

Wayne and Melba Miller Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman with first preference given to graduates of Fair Play High School in Polk County and second preference given to students who are graduates of a Polk County (Mo.) high school. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential, leadership qualities and financial need. Recipients must be enrolled full-time (12 hours).

William K. Berry Strafford High School Scholarship Student must be an incoming freshman from Strafford (Mo.) High School. Consideration will be given to high school performance and leadership qualities. Recipient must have maintained a minimum overall gpa of 3.0 and be enrolled full-time. Minor consideration will be given to financial need.

Wilbur Bridges Scholarship for International Students Recipient will be an international, undergraduate student. Preference will be for freshman or sophomore student with financial need. Student must have scored a 22 or higher on the act.

English Dr. Katherine Lederer Scholarship Student must be an English major enrolled in at least 12 hours per semester. Preference will be given to an African-American or other minority student. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. Elda E. Robins Memorial Scholarship Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. Financial need is considered. Art and Design Edgar A. Albin Scholarship Consideration is given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. Excellence in Photography Award This award is given to a student who has the best portfolio in photography. Recipients must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester.

Robert Henigan Literature Scholarship Student must be a freshman enrolled full-time and maintain a cumulative gpa more than 2.49 and a gpa in English more than 2.99. In the event of eligible multiple applicants, financial need will be the deciding factor. William Bedford Memorial Scholarship Student must be an entering freshman with a preference being given to students from Howell County, Mo. Consideration given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities.

Jim Bremer Design Scholarship Consideration will be given to high school performance and interview by scholarship committee representative.

Media, Journalism and Film

Lane Elkins Ceramics Scholarship Student must be a declared ceramics major and be in good standing with the University. Recipients must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours each semester.

Darr Family Broadcast Journalism Scholarship Student must be a broadcast journalism major. Preference given to incoming freshmen. Consideration given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities.

The department of music will select five or more finalists and a scholarship recipient is selected based on the performance in a concert. Checklist Admission

o Complete the undergraduate application for admission. You may complete the paper application or apply online at www.missouristate.edu/apply/. All students must be admitted to the University before being considered for financial aid and scholarships.

o Request that your official academic transcripts and act or sat scores be sent to the Missouri State Office of Admissions. To be official, transcripts must be sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the high school and colleges that you have attended.

o Send your completed application along with the nonrefundable $35 application fee (if you are a first-time Missouri State student) to the address indicated on the application.

o Expect a reply within two weeks of the date the University receives all necessary items (application, fee, act or sat scores and transcripts). You may check your admission status online at www.missouristate.edu/admstatus/. o Call 417-836-5517 or 800-492-7900 or email Info@ missouristate.edu if you have admission questions, or to schedule a campus visit.

Financial Aid o C omplete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (fafsa). The Missouri State federal school code is 002503. You may apply online at www.fafsa.gov beginning Jan. 1. Missouri State University’s priority deadline is March 31.
