Philippines Thảo Linh This time, it's Asia again! So, this week, we'll talk about ​ Philippines​ .​ Philippines​ is famous for it culture. As a colony of Spain and The USA a for a long time, its culture is the combination of those. Its main language is English so, in my opinion, its easy for the Philippine to connect with the world. Their festival are fascinating with full of Spanish identity such as beauty festival, dancing (maybe they'll wear some colorful clothes and dancing in a large fair), cockfighting and a fireworks competition. Their greeting culture is also important, too! The young must keep their head down, hold the elderly's hand high. I think it's quite complicated for just an action.

As small as it is, this nation of nearly 100 million people has made its impact felt throughout history, from being the first democracy in Asia to fighting side by side with the US against the Japanese in World War II. ●Your social media will explode! After spending time with Filipinos, your social media following will just explode. The Filipinos are so enthusiastic about their Instagram and Facebook that they were ranked as THE highest selfie takers in the world by Time Magazine in early 2014. ●The Filipino flag is the only one in the world, which can determine whether the country is at peace or at war, depending on how it is flown. It has a white triangle with


a sun surrounded by 3 golden stars representing the 3 island groups (Luzon in the North, the Visayas in the centre and Mindanao in the South). Then it has a strip of red and blue: When the country is at peace, the flag is flown with blue on top. When at war, it is reversed with red on top ●Sadly, one of the most democratic places in the world also happens to be one of the most dangerous for journalists. In its 2013 report, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) ranked the Philippines third on its Impunity Index, which is the number of unsolved journalist murders per population. ●The world's largest Christmas lantern was illuminated in San Fernando, Pampanga on Dec. 24, 2002. Jahnvi Kumar​ Since this week we're into ​ Philippines​ , let's talk about its wildlife. Because nature matters a lot in all of ours lives. The wildlife of ​ Philippines​ includes a significant number of endemic plant and animal species. The country's surrounding waters reportedly have the highest level of marine biodiversity in the world. The ​ Philippines​ is considered as one of the seventeen megadiverse countries as well as global biodiversity hotspot. And to not make it too monotonous to read, I have some pictures of some of the animals that can only be found in and around ​ Philippines​ !

I read some of Philippines culture and i have concise. The Philippines was first settled by Melanesian; today, although few in numbers, they preserve a very traditional way of life and culture. After them, the Austronesian or more specifically, Malayo­Polynesians, arrived on the islands. Today the Austronesian culture is very evident in the ethnicity, language, food, dance and


almost every aspect of the culture. These Austronesian engaged in trading with China, India, Palau, Malay, USA, Malaysia, Papua, west Pacific Islander, Indonesian Islands, the Middle East, Borneo, and other places. This is one of the most famous dance form of ​ Philippines​ . Tinikling is a traditional Philippine dance which originated during the Spanish colonial era. The dance involves two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance.

Philippines​ is a wonderful country and i am sharing some facts about sports in ​ Philippines​ : Sports in the ​ Philippines​ is an important part of the country's culture. There are 6 major sports in the ​ Philippines​ . These are basketball, boxing, football, billiards, tennis and volleyball. Despite being a tropical nation, ice skating is a popular sport in the ​ Philippines​ . Sports such as athletics, weightlifting, aerobics, and martial arts are also popular recreations. With the sport of cockfighting being wildly popular in the ​ Philippines​ , attracting large crowds who bet on the outcome of fights between the


birds, and the sport itself a popular form of fertility worship among almost all Southeast Asians.

Rachelle Skip​ Philippines is an archipelago of 7,107 islands with a total land area, including inland bodies of water located in the western Pacific Ocean. The prominent ethnic groups of Philippines like Tagalog, Visayan, Bicolano and Moro have genuienly preserved a very traditional way of life and culture and even today they live with their folk heritage and traditional sport. In the traditional folk heritage of Philippines, the most spectacular feature is the traditional dress of the Philippines. I want to share the national dress of my beloved country, Philippines. Barong Tagalog is an upper garment and known as the formal men's wear of the Philippines. The baro't saya is a traditional Filipino blouse and skirt ensemble. It is the national costume of the Philippines for women.
