Dr. Richard L. Irwin Associate Dean University College

ACSS: What do you love most about your role as Associate Dean? Irwin: I love that I get to do innovative and creative things. I get to design programs that are student friendly, and appeal to the adult student. One program that I am excited about is our competency based programs for the adult student. You earn your degree through demonstration of skills and knowledge in required subject areas through a series of carefully designed assessments. You’ll take tests, write papers, and complete assignments. ACSS: What advice can you give adult and commuter students? Irwin: Adult students have a lot on their plate. Pride, enthusiasm and being a little selfish is important. It’s a roller coaster and we understand that, but it is important that students follow their passion and are persistent.
