Message from the President of the Board Giving to ACS has been a growing point of pride over the years and we are honored to be thanking more alumni, community contributors, school friends and families who have helped ACS reach a record $1,000,000 for the first time in our Annual Fund history. Whether you have given ACS your time, financial support or both, your vote of confidence represents a tremendous commitment to each and every one of our students - a commitment that supports every aspect of an ACS education by funding our faculty and staff, our field trips, our athletic teams and our school-wide campus initiatives. The number of names listed in the pages of this report is a great reminder to us all that we are not alone in this mission. We have a remarkable number of people to thank for making ACS the exemplary school it has become and continues to be. This fall, ACS will be recommended for reaccreditation to the Middle States, and we will also be the first school to be recommended for Gold Credentials for both our Arabic and Early Years Programs in this region. This is but another example of the commendable education that ACS offers, thanks to your commitment to its development. Thank you,

Thank you, Nina Joukowsky Köprülü '79 President Board of Trustees

2013 2014

Message From the Head of School This last year was a whirlwind for me as I had so much to learn, but I am delighted to be leading ACS and getting to know so many of our community members. ACS is a terrific school with wonderfully talented and dedicated teachers and administrators who genuinely care about our students. ACS students continue to excel on a number of fronts. We hosted the 11th Annual Lebanon MUN conference and our students orchestrated the event beautifully. We had excellent leadership from an outstanding senior class, who will represent ACS at exceptional universities all over the world. We had five well performed school productions on the ACS stage, and our outstanding musicians entertained us at multiple school functions. Our athletes represented us well both at home and at a number of tournaments across the region; and we now have new opportunities as rugby and tennis have been added to our athletic program. Every high school student performed at least 25 hours of community service, making a difference for various groups and organizations, most notably the Syrian refugees. On the academic front, we continue to advocate for global and experiential learning and to push students outside their comfort zone. As part of our Week Without Walls program, our MS and HS students travelled to Armenia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Turkey and South Africa. ACS alumni gathered in Beirut, Boston, New York, and Dubai last year, and we hope to add more cities to that list. With the graduating class of 2014, our alumni population is now over 4,800 scattered all around the world. Thanks to your generosity, ACS was able to break another Annual Fund record as we passed the $1,000,000 mark for the first time. We have a new initiative at school to enroll outstanding students of limited means to enjoy the benefits of an ACS education. Generous donors have already funded seven scholarships for new students joining the school in the sixth grade this year, and will fund these students until they graduate. If all goes as planned, these seven years at ACS will change the scholarship recipients’ lives forever. Most of the funds we have raised are for general purposes or are to assist us with our annual fund raising project. In 2013-14 we raised funds to renovate and expand the cafeteria, which recently opened its doors to HS, MS and ES students and now has much improved light, room and sound. Another successfully completed project was 2012-13’s initiative to improve the sound and lighting systems in our two auditoriums as well as the Rabbit Field. The work was completed this summer, and we are looking forward to enhanced technical support for all our performances. In addition to our annual fund raising, last year we also started raising capital funds to help us pay for our new building. The building will be completed this spring and will provide us with much needed class room space, faculty and Head of School apartments. It is the first building ACS has constructed in 60 years and we hope that many of you will want to assist us with this first major effort to upgrade our school facilities. It will be a beautiful 14 story building complete with some magnificent views of the Mediterranean. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this historic school at such a pivotal time in its history. I am glad to have had the chance to meet so many of you in the past year, and hope that I can continue to count on your support as we move forward. We have had a great year, and with your help, there will be many, many more for ACS.

Hamilton Clark Head of School
