UNDERGRADUATE PROFILE

MEET 2017 DEAC

Outstanding Graduate of the Year STEPHANIE WEBB “I realized I was passionate about this and decided to take it a step further by making a career out of it,” Webb says. “I am married to an Air Force pilot, and we are stationed in a small town in New Mexico. Due to the lack of local universities offering programs in nutrition, I knew I would need to find a good online option. […] ACHS met all of my needs in distance learning, and it was a privilege to learn with their highly qualified professors.” Stephanie Webb, MS MS in Holistic Nutrition Graduate San Antonio, TX 2016

Webb earned her Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition from ACHS in 2017, and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. She also concurrently completed a Graduate Certificate in Holistic Nutrition. Webb holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Brigham Young University. After having her three children, she realized how crucial nutrition is for living your best life, and studied diet and nutrition as a serious hobby before returning to school. Webb is also an Eating Psychology coach and owner of Eat Happy Nutrition, a private health coaching practice that focuses on helping women to take the guilt out of good nutrition and to learn that eating healthy can be simple and fun. “My contributions to the field of nutrition have largely been in education. I work with women all over the country to help make lasting, positive change toward health in the areas of nutrition as well as overall lifestyle,” Webb says. Learn more about Stephanie and her holistic health practice online at www.eathappynutrition.com. Watch her nomination video online at www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNc0dDsM4TM.

Each year ACHS chooses a graduate to represent the College in the DEAC Annual Outstanding Graduate program. Selection criteria includes review of the graduate’s academic record as well as the level and quality of their contribution to society and to their chosen profession.

Personal or family health challenges or a new role as a family caregiver can also lead us to seek additional training in the healthcare field.

“Thus far it has been an impressive experience! I am filled with gratitude for having the opportunity to study at ACHS. I have gained valuable knowledge and skills that I will use to continue my studies in the field of Complementary Alternative Medicine. It was an honor to receive the support of the amazingly helpful staff, knowledgeable instructors, and encouraging classmates at ACHS.” Atalia Manzano Millan Certificate in Aromatherapy & Certificate in Herbal Retail Management Graduate Waco, TX 2017

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN COMPLEMENTARY ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE ™

Consumer use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) continues to increase, fueled by a number of factors, including increasing research of efficacy, dissatisfaction with allopathic models (particularly for chronic health problems), and an aging population. The challenge to the industry will be to integrate CAM to most benefit the consumer, focusing on the complementary rather than the alternative nature of the wide variety of modalities available and leading the way forward to a wellness-based concept of healthcare. Those who would play a part in leading the industry to successful integration must be able to facilitate change in a holistic and encompassing manner in the context of rapid change in the healthcare industry.

“Embarking upon my studies brought me into ACHS has developed a unique and innovative approach to the degree of Master of areas I didn’t even know Science in CAM, with a clear mission to educate outstanding men and women to existed. Teas Many herbs can be easily prepared as teas.

RECIPES

Basic Recipe Herb: 1 teaspoon Purified or filtered water: 1 cup Directions Place your herbs into a ceramic or glass teapot. Bring the water to a boil. Do not use an aluminum pot. Turn off the heat and pour the water over the herb. Cover the pot and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain the tea in a non-aluminum strainer and then drink. Use immediately. Do not store. Honey, lemon, or milk can be added, although milk tends to mask the delicate flavors. Do not use honey with infants younger than one year as there have been reports of botulism spores in honey and this can be fatal in infants. Keep all herbal preparations out of the reach of children. GRADUATE DEGREES

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN HOLISTIC NUTRITION

The mission of the MS in Holistic Nutrition degree program is to provide professional holistic nutrition and physical health recommendations from which community programming and client education can be based. This in turn will help people to live healthier lives, prevent illness or injury, and reduce the risk of chronic disease while promoting wellness. Holistic nutrition is the foundation to any holistic health lifestyle plan for optimal health. The United States healthcare system has shifted its emphasis to prevention in an effort to reduce healthcare costs and service a society that is both growing and living longer. With the passing of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in late 2010 by the U.S. Government, there is even more focus on prevention and wellness. The National Prevention Strategy (NPS) was released June 16, 2011, as part of the ACA. The NPS launched a comprehensive plan that will help increase the number of Americans who are healthy at every stage of life.

Strain the tea in a non-aluminum strainer and then drink. Store for no more than 24 hours in the refrigerator. Keep all herbal preparations out of the reach of children. Relaxing Bath

Ingredients Clary sage Salvia sclarea oil: 3 drops

RECIPES Ylang ylang Cananga odorata oil: 2 drops

Directions Mix the two essential oils together. Note, hot water will enhance dermal absorption, so always start with just a few drops of the blend and add more if needed. If you are a highly sensitive person (HSP), have any skin issues, or suffer from allergies, add the essential oil blend to a dispersant (such as whole milk or a base oil), and then add the entire mixture to the bath water. Give the water a good swish around before lowering your body into it. Breathe deeply, relax, and rejuvenate.
