Dr. Gregory E. Berg, PhD, earned his Bachelor's in Art in Anthropology from the University of Arizona in 1993 and his Masters in Arts from the Bioarchaeology program from Arizona State University in 1999. He completed his PhD at the University of Tennessee in 2008. He is currently a Forensic Anthropologist and laboratory manager at the JPACCentral Identification Laboratory in Hawaii where he works on the recovery and identification of missing U.S. service

Dr. Berg has over seventeen years of field experience in Archaeology and Physical Anthropology and has presented at various meetings and has published numerous articles and papers in the Journal of Forensic Sciences, Journal of Archaeological Science, Military Medicine, and Journal of Forensic Identification. His recent research has concentrated on trauma analysis, aging techniques, human identification from eyewear, and intra- and inter-observer error studies, which have been particularly focused on aging and population determination methods used in human identification. Dr. D. Robert Pannone, OD, CMI-V, is a Behavioral Optometrist who has been practicing in Norwich, Connecticut since 1960. He received his Bachelors of Science from University of Rhode Island in 1953, a Bachelors of Science BS/OD from Massachusetts College of Optometry in 1958 (Beta Sigma Kappa). He studied at Gesell Institute of Child Development in 1969 and today deals with children's vision and learning problems. Dr. Pannone is a member of American Optometric Association, and for 35 years Optometric Extension Program. He established the vision care and health section for the Haitian Health Foundation, Jeremie, Haiti in 1989 and still serves as its' consultant. In 1990 he became a Connecticut State Police Surgeon and today is an adjunct lecturer at the Connecticut Police Academy on Vision, Drugs and Alcohol and their effects on driving.

international Perspective Study and Identification of Human Remains Dr. Horacio Solla, PhD The article presents an update of a quantitative analysis of the forensic anthropology cases that occurred in Uruguay from 1950 to 2013. The number of forensic anthropology cases has rapidly increased in Uruguay. Over 50 years this number had rose from only one case in 1950 to 91 cases in 2013.This article studies 1391 forensic anthropology cases processed between 1950 and 2013 at the Judicial Morgue of Montevideo created in 1992, as a response to the need to address the backlog of cases. The study is divided into two parts: the first representing 225 cases from 1950 to the end of 1991, and the second involving 1166 cases from 1992 to 2013. In each case, the remains were analyzed to determine the identity of the deceased person, sex, stature and age at the time of death. In cases where a positive identification was

"After Ruby Ridge and Waco, authorities keep a low profile in Oregon" Our very own Dr. Greg Vecchi was recently interviewed regarding the tense situation in Oregon's Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. His history as former chief of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit and FBI commander affords him special insight into the occupation of the wildlife refuge headquarters. Dr. Vecchi assures us that even though law enforcement has taken a low-key approach to handling the situation, they are planning ways to resolve the situation. At the top of their list, however, is to de-escalate and resolve the matter without the need for force.

About the Member Dr. Gregory M. Vecchi, PhD, CFC, FACFEI, CHS-V, CI, is the former unit chief of the Behavioral Science Unit, Federal Bureau of Investigation and current chair of ACFEI. Dr. Vecchi was assigned to the Behavioral Science Unit (BSU) in January 2006, where he conducted research, training, and consultation activities in behavioral-based conflict analysis and resolution, crisis management, crisis communication, and global hostagetaking. Dr. Vecchi began his service with the FBI in Miami, Florida, in 1996, where he worked a variety of organized crime and drug matters, both domestically and internationally. Dr. Vecchi became an auxiliary crisis (hostage) negotiator in 1998 and was formally certified by the FBI in 2002 and later by the London Metropolitan Police Department in 2005. In his capacity as a field negotiator, Dr. Vecchi responded to numerous warrant and barricade situations; helped manage the Miami Crisis Negotiation Team; and trained local, state, and federal law enforcement officers on a variety of crisis management and negotiation topics. In 2003, Dr. Vecchi was promoted and transferred to the FBI's Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG), where he was assigned to the Rapid Deployment/Logistics Unit (RDLU) and subsequently to the Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU) as a Program Manager. During his time at RDLU, Dr. Vecchi was deployed to Iraq in support of counter-terrorism operations. While assigned to CNU, he responded to and conducted research on international kidnapping matters. Prior to joining the FBI, Dr. Vecchi was a Special Agent/Criminal Investigator with the U.S. Department of Justice-Office of the Inspector General (OIG), U.S. Department of Agriculture-OIG, and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID). Dr. Vecchi earned a PhD in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2006; a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1999 and a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management from Park College, Parkville, Missouri, in 1991. Dr. Vecchi conducted extensive research and is published in the area of conflict and crisis management and communication. He teaches, trains, and consults executive law enforcement officers on the topic.

CE Credits for ACFEI Members ACFEI Members Eligible to Receive Continuing Education Credits Through DUI Seminars with Dave Cox Dave Cox is the owner and operator of Your DUI Pro, which is located in Middleton, Idaho. Mr. Cox investigates criminal cases and is an Expert DUI Defense Analyst and Consultant. Mr. Cox is a decorated former police officer and he devoted most of his time as a police officer to DUI enforcement. He has performed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests on thousands of people. Mr. Cox arrested over 1,000 people for DUI throughout his career, with over 200 arrests for DUI - Drugs. He was named the 2003 State DUI Enforcement Officer of the Year. Mr. Cox learned, from his experience as a police officer, that DUI enforcement is not an exact science. Because DUI enforcement is not an exact science, Mr. Cox discovered that, after further investigation, it was sometimes determined that drivers arrested for DUI were not actually under the influence. Knowing this information, Mr. Cox decided to leave law enforcement so he could teach attorneys across the United States how to identify drivers who are not guilty of DUI and teach attorneys how to effectively win these cases. Mr. Cox was trained as a certified Drug Recognition Expert. He was certified in the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and was also trained as a certified operator of both the Intoxilyzer 5000 and the Intoxilyzer 8000. Mr. Cox has also received training, from a breath testing expert, on each of the commonly used breath testing machines. Mr. Cox was a regular speaker at Victim Impact Panels and taught DUI Detection classes at the Citizen's Police Academy. Mr. Cox testified in hundreds of DUI trials and hearings as an officer and has testified many times as a DUI Defense Expert. Mr. Cox is the author of How to Fight a DUI Arrest and he now consults with and assists attorneys across the United States in effectively and efficiently investigating, preparing, and defending DUI cases. Mr. Cox has personally trained thousands of attorneys across the United States. This includes Defense Attorneys, Prosecutors, Judges, and Police Officers. Mr. Cox's DUI Continuing Legal Education Courses have consistently been rated by attending attorneys as one of the best DUI seminars in the country.

CBS Reaches out to ACFEI! Earlier this month CBS reached out to ACFEI and requested our members submit resumes to be considered for its new upcoming show, "Hunted." Many members submitted their resumes and bios some have already been contacted by CBS for auditions. This was a great indicator of the quality of members that ACFEI has in the

association. The show will simulate "fugitives" on-camera that are looking to avoid capture as investigators, intelligence analysts, and computer forensic experts work with ground teams to capture the fugitive. The show will require a 5 week commitment in Los Angeles for the analysts and forensic team and 5-weeks on a location in the southeast part of the country for investigating and conducting the manhunt. The ACFEI team was excited to partner with CBS and looks forward to continue to provide these types of unique opportunities to our members.
