For those of you who have ever played basketball with our outgoing President, Dave McCurdy, you know he can be a tough guy to guard, let alone to try to fill his shoes. During his term in office we were able to successfully open the Booth, continue to increase our service to our members and develop a 3 year capital plan for future investment in the club. We look forward to being able to draw on his knowledge this next year as our immediate past President. Andy Smith has left the Board as immediate Past President in February. During Andy’s term on the Board, we have revised our By-laws, outsourced our Accounting function, completed large capital projects including the sidewalk repair, the Spa and the Booth, and returned the ACC to positive financial results for the past 3 fiscal years. Join me in welcoming Ken Cookson as our newest Director. Ken has been a very active member of the club many years. Most recently he has served as one of our representatives on the ACC/CCC LLC board and he was very instrumental in the ACC building being included on the National Historical Register. We look forward to his continued contributions as we move forward with these endeavors. I look forward to serving as your President over the course of this next year. We will continue to strive to provide the best member experience regardless of how you participate in the club. Earlier this year we asked for your input on helping us to improve our food operations. We will analyze this data, make changes to improve our service and will continually ask for your ongoing input on how we are doing. We are in the early stages of revising the Facilities Master Plan that will guide further updates to the clubhouse. We believe we can make significant improvements in key areas that will enhance both the member and guest experience.

CLUB NEWS

W. Michael Fritz President

When I was a young partner at my firm, I can remember the National managing partner addressing us and asking, “Do you know how good you are? Do you know how good you can be?” I believe those two questions are just as applicable to all of us as members of the ACC. Look around at all of the positive momentum that we have at the club. This past month we added 28 new members. We have new cardio equipment on the fourth floor and have plans to replace additional equipment later this year. Two years from now, Carla Sokol will become the second female president of the club. Dana and his athletic team continue to develop new individual and group fitness activities. Our chef and dining room staff continue to improve our member dining experience. We continue to have positive financial results which will allow us to re-invest in our club. If each of us helped to retain a member, recruited a new member, or utilized one additional aspect of our club, just think of how good this club could be! ACCent Magazine • 3

CLUB NEWS

The Club certainly had a high-energy winter season. Both general membership and our ‘Clubs-withintheClub’ have swelled in numbers. Starting with the buzz of the renovated Booth Bowling Lounge in November, the Club’s momentum just keeps rolling in all areas. In Basketball, Commissioner Chris Conley and Athletic Director Dana Johnson brought back The Legends League after an 8 year hiatous. The Legends League boasts members over the age of 50 playing honestto- goodness, below-the-rim basketball. The Legends wrapped up play earlier this month and welcomed back players such as Tom Morgan, Pat Brobeck, Mark Jordan, Sam Koon, Charlie Smith and newer members such as Bill Cirocco, Andy Campbell and Ron Lucki.

House Rules Reminder: Children’s Privileges As stated in the House Rules in Article XII, Sections 4 & 5: Children under the age of sixteen must be directly supervised by a member at all times while in the Club House. A member shall be responsible for his/her family and guests at all time while on the premises, as well as their financial obligations and any damage caused by them. Keeping in mind the safety of children and the consideration of all members at the Club, it is important to be reminded of these abovementioned policies. Please adhere to the House Rules as stated. Any questions or comments may be directed to the House Committee and/or General Manager.

In the Squash Club world, Commissioner Andy Effler has reached into his collegiate and club squash background to grow features and members to a thriving ‘Club-within-the-Club.’ In his first year as commissioner, Andy has introduced more opportunities for competition through 'Challenge Mondays' which is a setting for anyone on the squash ladder to challenge or be challenged. He's vetted and introduced high quality Squash Pro services for lessons, and upgraded the already thriving social scene with an advanced 'beer delivery system’ – a kegerator on the squash floor! Scott McComb and Heartland Bank gets the assist for sponsoring the kegorator. The ACC Rod & Gun Club’s annual Wild Game Dinner was again an enormous success. The event that features exotic meats, wild boar, jackalope, traditional passed perch (Chef John Wolfe insited on on skinning all 70lbs to allow for better quality breading). In the old days of the 1990’s, the dinner featured game that members bagged in the months leading up to the dinner. As attendance grew, it became impossible to feed a crowd that grew to what is now 275 attendees with 6 rabbits and random venison. To the great fortune of the club, Chef John has been able to shine at these dinners. This year's main course of elk chop and pheasant roulade was some of the best yet! With the spring season upon us, energy around the clubhouse will continue to grow as members new and old enjoy the competition, camaraderie and community that is the ACC.

Blue Wings Update The ACC’s Blue Wing program continues to thrive as new members make connections and get involved. Thank you to all of our “Blue Wings” for supporting membership retention at your Club! The purpose of the Blue Wing Program: Aid in retention efforts by involving current members who are active in the Club to engage new members through activity, conversation or simply being a sounding board for the ACC. The program’s success is evident through increased member involvement at events, Clubs within the Club, and in our committee system. In February, with the start of the 2015 committee year, 6 new members were offered positions on Women’s, Associate’s, and Membership committees. Since The Booth opening in November, membership has also seen a significant decrease in resignations. As we enter 2015, membership continues to trend strongly in a positive direction. The Club has come a long way from a net -88 members in 2009 to a current +45. Thank you, once again, to the ACC Blue Wings. We are excited to see what the future holds!

Learn more about ways to enhance your ACC membership to include more access at Columbus Country Club! Membership options for Full Golf, Social Golf and Social Activity are available.
