The classical concept of the existence of basic elements — water, fire, air, and earth — has been embraced almost universally by philosophers and cultures throughout history. Beginning with Babylonian mythology in the 18th century BC, through the cultures of ancient Greece and Egypt and even in modern times, these elements affect our perception of the world around us. In addition to being the foundation of science and our modern existence, the elements have greatly influenced the work of artists, poets, and musicians who express human thought and emotion. Many prominent musical composers have been fascinated and inspired by those forces of nature.
Fire is associated with warmth, love, celebration, and illumination. For thousands of years the magnetic power of fire has been a subject of enchantment and allure. I hope our concerts this season will reflect the spirit and attributes of fire and will conjure a magical and enlightened artistic experience.

2013 2016
During this season, ASO continues exploring the connections between music and three basic elements. Following Water in the previous year, we will focus now on Fire and will continue with Earth in 2015/16. Our repertoire will feature musical masterpieces in many different musical styles that reflect the fascinating connection between sound and the elements of our world.

WELCOME TO THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT SEASON OF YOUR ACADIANA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. It’s time to light the candles and celebrate! Your Acadiana Symphony Orchestra is embarking on its 30th anniversary season and I could not think of a better theme for this special occasion than Fire. Musical fireworks will celebrate the best of music and the best of our artistic community.

Our celebratory season will be magnificent, highlighted by voluminous sounds of our symphony orchestra and grand choruses, spectacular photography and enchanting dance, displays of virtuosity and intimate chamber music. Throughout this anniversary year we will continue our mission of sharing the gift of live music and telling the musical story of our universal human experience. During my ten years at the artistic helm of this orchestra I have collected and shared
priceless memories of performances when hearts were touched, spirits were inspired and faces were lit with smiles. Thanks to all the members of our musical family who have supported our endeavors, Acadiana has become a better place to live and learn over the last 30 years. May you continue to enjoy the music of your Acadiana Symphony Orchestra for decades to come!
