t was pan in yuh pwephm on Sunday 1st February at the Queen’s Park Savannah. The largest annual pan event in the country drew even larger crowds than in previous years with the North Stand being almost filled to capacity as it was in years gone by. The Northern Greens drew the expected large crowds who enjoyed various forms of entertainment and product sampling throughout. However, while the lime was memorable for many, there was still an actual competition taking place. The semifinals saw a conglomeration of bands from all corners of Trinidad and Tobago duke it out for medium and large band Supremacy (or at least a place in the finals on Carnival Saturday). The bands were allotted 8 minutes in which to present their selections and the arrangers did well to keep their compositions concise. The event kicked off slightly after noon and ran until near midnight with a brief afternoon rain disruption. When it was all said and done, 15 large and 14 medium bands had given their all with 10 of each being selected for the finals. Massy Trinidad All Stars was the large band that won over the judges the most as they topped the

semifinal scores with their rendition of Clive Telemaque’s “Unquestionable.” The Leon ‘Smooth’ Edwards arrangement was enough to pip reigning champs Phase II Pan Groove into second place. The champs played “Happiness” a song written and composed by Len ‘Boogsie’ Sharpe. The Duvone Stewart led bp Renegades rendition of “Jam Dem Hard” found itself into third place with Republic Bank Exodus following in fourth. They played “De Puna Band” composed and arranged by Pelham Goddard. NLCB Fonclare (a crowd favourite on the day), Tropical Angel Harps, PCS Nitrogen Silver Stars, CAL Invaders Steel Orchestra and Skiffle Bunch also made it into the

finals with the legendary WITCO Desperadoes doing just enough to get in the last slot. In the Medium Band category Pan Elders continued their run of good form following preliminary success by coming out on top in the semis. Tobago bands, NGC Steel Xplosion and NLCB Buccooneers copped the other two top-three spots. Here is a full list of the finalists who will be on hand for the Valentine’s Day finals showdown. LOCAL NEWS

BUNJI STILL BREAKING BARRIERS Bunji Garlin

“M

y mission is to continue playing my part with the movement of Soca music and the culture of Trinidad and Tobago being exposed to a wider audience. We have a lot of attention of now and we should be taking of advantage of it.” This says our Viking of Soca, Mr. Ian Alvarez aka Bunji Garlin. Thus far his mission has taken him to many parts of the world including the Antilliaanse Festeen in Belgium and the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas. He has also participated in Major Lazer’s Mad Decent 22 city Block Party tour as well as Mad Decent’s four day Boat Party from Texas to Nassau amongst many other events in new and old territories. While he acknowledges that veteran calypsonians have taken our music to European markets in the past he notes that Soca has been extending its boundaries and there are different entities including producers, DJs, Festivals and new lands which have jumped on the Soca train. He even recalls performing at an event in Denmark where hip hop and dancehall were more common place and creating such an impression via performance that the DJ was compelled to quickly find soca music on youtube to play at the party based on the response to the music. This he says is the bold, confident approach which must be taken when taking Soca abroad, “we went with the mentality that either you like it or you don’t like it!” Garlin laments that some artistes are intimidated by new audiences and often appear somewhat apologetic about who they are and the musical style which they represent, “good night I just trying a thing… allyuh just bear with me…” Instead, he insists that artistes should “just go brave and done.. say hey this is what I do this is where I come from... at the end of the day they may not like it but I don’t care …if you don’t like it shift to the side.. You don’t use those words 2

but that is the attitude that you have to develop.” Bunji acknowledges that the increased international exposure has affected him in small ways. For instance he is more keen on the need for music to be approached in a less complicated way and at the same time his belief with regard to the marriage between music and lyrics has been cemented “... when you move the musical ‘bed’ away, the lyrics must be able to stand on their own.” While he has always had a keen fashion sense he notes that he wears more suits and ties and acknowledges the role which fashion now plays in the Soca industry “... so where u might have worn a suit in a wedding alone you might find an artiste in a party wearing that and still make it look swag and not necessarily over formal and corny …” This year the Viking has released close to 15 songs including ‘Bad Mind’, ‘Mard’, ‘Cosmopolitan’, ‘Our Time’, ‘Exodous’ and ‘Renegade Soca’. One in particular captures a universal response to celebration and having

ET&T • FEBRUARY, 2015 • www.amgtt.com

a good time that is outside of the normal wine and jam response of Trinidadians and has become an instant hit across classes and ages… This is the cheerful, groovy song ‘Cheers’, “We shot pieces of a music video so far and we got footage of people from all around the world doing the cheers… the objective is not just to capture people doing cheers but to also show the different places that Soca has taken root already.” With a hectic season in full swing the Viking credits rest, vitamins, his wife, family support and country origins for his ability to manage and balance a short Carnival season and family at the same time. Recalling missing a Fire Fete performance in the past because he went home to change and blacked out Garlin says that he has grown disciplined enough to seize rest opportunities when they present themselves and make the most of them. In terms of rising stars, this season he is particularly impressed by younger artistes, namely Ricardo Drue, Sekon Sta and Flipo due to their relentless drive to force themselves into an

industry which he claims seems to push younger artistes to give up unless they have “paid their dues” or “waited a five years” regardless of their talent. On a related note he bemoans the failure amongst Trinidadians to understand that all artistes do not have the same style, “The world operates on variety... you will never go to a restaurant and see the same food in the food court, you see variations of food... some people go for curry, stew provision, bread… Music is the same way, it is impossible for any industry to work, for any music to advance with every artiste sounding the exact way, having the same style, singing the same thing.” For the rest of the year he and the Vikings have major bookings and tours. Additionally he is set to work with a range of international producers on products for the international market. Some of these include DJ G Kilogram from India, Dj Griot 99 Jamz, Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. Such post Carnival activities have become a natural part of his approach given his international acclaim and status, “We are so dedicated to Trinidad and Carnival so we steer all our energies into that but the question that I always ask is what happens after that? … we depend on going from Carnival to Carnival which is nothing bad because we facilitate the Carnivals but there is a whole wide world that wants to hear us … wants to be a part of what we create, so how do we find that medium which allows them to be a part of it without them feeling strange about it and without us feeling strange about what we do as well...” Ultimately Bunji admits that there was not a particular mission for this Carnival more than to continue a work that had already been started, “We have achieved one part of the mission already… which is to bring more attention to the music from a worldwide audience… now it’s just to maintain it.” Now to that we can toast with one of our finest Soca ambassadors, Mr. Alvarez! Cheers!!

C2K15 STYLE TRENDS REVEALED

EXPERT WALKS US THROUGH THE HOTTEST LOOKS THIS SEASON

s whole yearrrr, ah live for de Carnival!” Its feteing season again and we all want to look our hottest and turn heads for CK15. Trendsetter, Fashionista and Owner of Simply Runway in Grand Bazaar Candice Baccus gives us Carnival enthusiasts some solid fashion advice. She begins by saying that Carnival styling is governed by 2 things-Body Type and Fete Type. It’s important to understand your body type or gain access to a personal stylist so that your style can be simplified to make sure you look your best. Also, paying attention to the type of fete you're going to is crucial- this will allow you to pair the perfect outfit with maximum comfort. For instance, Cooler fetes, Daytime (Pan) or Night are usually casual. She says, “Sandals, shorts and a top is all you need! For the Divas you can sub the sandals for wedges.” All-Inclusives are dressier than Cooler fetes and styling can significantly vary depending on if it’s high, mid or low end. The price of your ticket is usually a good guide. The cheaper the ticket the more casual you can go and vice versa. Dresses are popular at these events followed by long jumpers then embellished tops and shorts. The brave venture in heels but the majority prefers wedges for added comfort without compromising your posture. Then there are the Sunrise fetes that start at 2am. Candice emphasizes that these are the “MOST casual-casual tops (Chiffon being the most popular) crop tops or bikini tops, shorts and sandals are recommended. At these parties it's common for outfits to be ruined by colored powder, paint and water, so you definitely don't want to over spend on that outfit.” Concert type events like Machel Monday and Soca Monarch are usually over crowded. She advises, “Flats on the feet, 4

cool garments to avoid excess sweating and simple accessories.” So what are the most popular trends for CK15? Candice tells all.

Brightly Colored Tops, Plunging Necklines and Open Back Styles: Pastels have made way for neons. Solid brights, as well as boldly printed tops are popular as well. For the Divas plunging necklines and open back tops are must-haves for added sex appeal.

Shoes: Wedges and sandals are the most popular for needed comfort during long nights of partying. From the basics in black and nude to embellished and colored styles these have been must haves for Carnival ever since. Shock absorbing styles, cushioned soles and light weight heels are most popular.

Rompers: These are short Jumpers. A one and done outfit. Basic romper styles are trending with "popping accessories." Neons and chunky colored beaded styles are most popular. Printed, Colored and High-waist Shorts: Denim in subtle prints has been most popular because of its versatility. These can be used with any color and are flattering on all body types. High-waist shorts have been overwhelmingly popular as well. For those who want to wear a romper but don't want the hassle of having to undress totally when

going to the bathroom, pairing a cute top with a pair of high-waist shorts, tucked in and belted gives you the same look without the bathroom trouble as you can just slip the shorts off. Those who don't want "short shorts” can try Bermuda shorts that hit around mid-thigh; these are most popular among mature women.

appeal. Shift dresses with detailed necklines for e.g., beading, gold toned rimming, geometric cut outs and mesh paneling have been most popular with Curvy or Plus Size Women. Fitted styles with cut-outs continue to trend.

Crop Tops-from Bralets to Beaded Styles: These have been mostly paired with shorts and most popular among the young fetters and fit shoppers. They work well with skirts with just a 1/2 - 1 inch of skin showing between the top and skirt.

Dresses: Sequin dresses with plunging necklines have been a hit, especially in A-Line cuts or Skater Styles, complete with a plunging neckline for added sex

Accessories: The latest in accessories is body jewelry, used for Monday Wear or just to add that extra pop to an otherwise simple outfit. Other than that, bold colors, chunky styles and layered styles are most popular.

Wristlets: These are essential to tote your necessities and replace clutches and handbags for convenience while feteing. These come with a wrist strap and have enough space for your makeup, phone and money.

LOCAL THE MASSY FOUNDATION NEWS UNVEILS “SOULS OF STEEL”

P

OS, Trinidad (Sonique Solutions) – This past week, the philanthropic arm of the Massy Group, the Massy Foundation delighted steel pan enthusiasts and Carnival culture aficionados with the premiere of the film “Souls of Steel: A Documentary about Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra”. The launch event and screening took place at the iconic Little Carib Theatre in Woodbrook, Port-Of-Spain and attracted a unique mix of past and present Massy Trinidad All Stars players, supporters of the band, T&T cultural stakeholders and members of the local film, entertainment and media fraternity. On hand at the event was Beresford Hunte, Manager, Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra who thanked all attendees for their presence on the momentous occasion and expressed his gratitude to the Massy Foundation for its steadfast support of the band throughout

the years. Echoing Hunte’s excitement about the film was Gaston Aguilera, Chairman, Massy Foundation who shared his and the Foundation’s enthusiasm to be associated with ‘Souls of Steel’. Souls of Steel which was directed by regional film director and producer, Dave Cropper of Cropper Media Limited, was commissioned in 2013 by the Massy Group (then Neal & Massy) in honour of its 25th anniversary as the Corporate Sponsor of the Massy Trinidad All Stars. Cropper artfully wove together a mix of perspectives about Trinidad All Stars, its history, its achievements, its culture and values and its journey in the 2014 Panorama competition, offering a multi-faceted look at the famed steel band. During the screening the appreciative audience at Little Carib Theatre enjoyed many interesting on-screen anecdotes from players who reminisced on the bands evolution over the last 3 decades,

inspiring interviews with past and current members such as Leon ‘Smooth’ Edwards, Arranger, Dane Gulston, long-standing member, Jason ‘Stumps’ Lewis, Operations Manager, Neville Jules, Founder, as well as classic clips of the Massy Trinidad All Stars’ past performances. The film’s content also includes footage from the band’s Panorama performance in 2014 - a contentious year for the band in which they placed second to Phase II Pan Groove in the Panorama Finals, missing the championship by only one point. This production was timely as 2015 also marks the 80th Anniversary of Massy Trinidad All Stars. The recent launch event not only provided invited guests with a platform for networking over delightful local delicacies and discussing the recent 2015 Panorama Semi-Finals which saw the Massy Trinidad All Stars triumphantly topping all the competition, but

(From L-R)Film-maker Michael Mooleedhar, Massy Group Corporate Communications Officer Candace Ali and Media and Entertainment Consultant Damian Sogren

it also gave a first look at what can be deemed a true ‘piece of history’ about the 8 time National Panorama champions. The launch and screening at Little Carib Theatre was one of several activities planned by the band to commemorate its 80th Anniversary throughout the year. About The Massy Foundation Established in 1979 The Massy Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Massy Group which reaches out and works alongside external community partners with a focus on poverty alleviation, contributing to the arts and culture, youth and education, community development and other areas of social development.

etish Jouvert presents Fifty Shades of J’ouvert for Trinidad Carnival 2015. A collaboration between Euphoria Mas Promotions and Provocative Entertainment, Fetish Jouvert is the band for masqueraders who want to express the more adventurous side of their sensuality in a safe, fun environment. Call it daring; call it kinky, it definitely looks like it will be one of the sexiest j’ouvert experiences ever! The Fifty Shades of Grey novel and soon-to-be-released blockbuster movie have created quite a buzz here in T&T, with women especially being more open and willing to explore their own sexual fantasies. And as we all know, for Carnival woman is boss so the fetish concept has certainly gotten female masqueraders excited. We are not too sure how our male patrons feel about being outnumbered and 6

dominated, but it is unlikely that there'll be complaints. The band will provide the necessary accessories – masks, ticklers, handcuffs, pasties etc – for masqueraders to create and live out their fantasies. They also promise to provide body paint for masqueraders to fully indulge in the art of seduction as they smear it on each other’s bodies. Also, the band is an all-inclusive one with a wide range of premium drinks and other beverages, plus a breakfast buffet to cap off the morning. Security will be tight

inside and outside the band, and secure parking will also be made available for masqueraders. Fetish team members stressed the importance of safety saying “Our masqueraders’ safety is of utmost importance, which is one reason the exact route is not publicised in advance. Masqueraders will be advised of the route upon payment and given updates during the course of the actual j’ouvert (for the latecomers who leave home late, get caught up in traffic from roadblocks, and miss not just the 3.00 am pre-party but the music truck when it pulls out at 4.00 am.)” Speaking of music trucks, the band will have a music truck with a 40 foot trailer, backed by the music of super DJ Kurt ‘KW’ Williams of Vibe CT 105 FM, and a live band. The Fetish costume consists of t-shirts or vests for guys, and t-shirts and booty shorts for the girls. The

package will also include merchandise and vouchers from sponsors as well as the all-important accessories to complete the look and feel. Fetish Jouvert is produced by Euphoria Mas Promotions and Provocative Entertainment, the performing arm of the well-known Provocative Fitness group. MODEL MANIA

Name: Brittany Stewart Age: 24 Hometown: St. Joseph Hobbies: Sports, Travel, Pan, Piano, Socializing. This former National Sprint Swimmer and student-athlete at UTT is an absolute fitness freak who loves both competitive and

recreational sport. Yet, while she possesses beautiful physical assets, her brain capacity stands out just as much. Stewart is currently engaged in a career in maritime navigation for a well-known offshore company. She believes this has set a platform for her goal of becoming a female marine pilot (which is extremely rare in the region). With so much going for her, one would wonder why she would choose to endure the rigours of modeling. However, it would be a shame to see Brittany’s obvious natural beauty go to waste. She clearly agrees as she has done ex-

tensive work as a promo girl over the last year. Brittany details that while her look is generally down to genes and a mesomorphic body type, she does put in a lot of work to maximize results. She pampers herself with monthly massages and facials as well as weekly masks. Plus, she carries her water bottle with her everywhere she goes to ensure she stays hydrated. Her workout regimen includes hitting the gym 5 days per week with intermittent spin, body pump, kickboxing and plyometric sessions combined with regular weight and circuit training. The model also says a healthy diet

is paramount to her results. As far as her favourite designers, forget Versace, Gucci and Michael Kors. She thinks God is the ultimate designer. When it comes to dislikes, her list is not as short. Her peeves include: disrespect, spinelessness and indetermination, repetitive mistakes, silly questions and men who “awaken a woman’s love without fully knowing what to do with it” (Riiiight). So far she hasn’t been in any ads, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we see her gracing a billboard or TV screen in the near future. Look out for more from this young lady.

HAVE SMOOTH SKIN THIS CARNIVAL

BEAUTY

T

he old saying that the mirror never lies does not comfort you on the evening of that big date when you’re staring at the fullsized zit that just popped up on your forehead. Unfortunately not all of us leave our acne problems behind with our teenaged years. They follow us through to young adulthood, wreaking havoc in our social lives, and our ability to sing “I’m too sexy for my shirt.” An effective skin care regime for acne prone skin can be elusive, but the good news is that acne can be controlled. The best way to begin treating your acne is to be informed. Most acne is caused by dirt, grime, gunk, or a number of other skin pollutants that clog your pores on a daily basis. Knowing this, the first logical step is, of course to keep your skin clean. Use a mild cleanser, preferably one that carries acne-busting ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid in the morning and before bedtime. Remember, you’re not scrubbing your mossy bathroom tiles, so be gentle with your face. Washing too harshly may actually strip the skin of its natural oils and irritate already present acne. You may also want to avoid oil-based cleansers if you have oily skin. They make your skin even oilier, hence exacerbating the problem. After you cleanse, it may feel like you can use your face to smoothen the rough edges of your coffee table. This is because some cleansers not only clean, but they dry out your face. To put an end to this, begin to moisturize using a light oil free product that says nonacnegenic or non-comedogenic on the label. For those of you poor sobs who use soap to wash your face, please stop! There are a number of topical treatments available on today’s market that promise to zap those zits away. Before you use any of these, choose an inconspicuous test spot to assess your sensitivity to it. If redness, swelling or peeling occurs, choose a lower strength product and use it less often. We know that it’s tempting to bring out the tweezers to an-

nihilate every pimple that dares to interfere with the skin you love to hate, but doing that may just be adding insult to an already injured face. While a pimple, hideous as it may seem only has a short time to dance across your cheek, the scar that it would leave if you squeeze it would remain on a more permanent basis. Avoid popping every pimple you see, or your complexion may move from dark brown to polka dot!

Quick Tips • Remember to use clean towels and wash your sheets and pillowcases regularly. • Don’t try to cover your pimples with your hair. We know that we’ve taken away your camouflage here but there are hair products that actually irritate skin and may cause breakouts. • Use medicated oil free cosmetics. – Who would have known? There are actually concealers

available that can cover up the pimples and treat them at the same time. Two birds, one stone! • Use scrubs cautiously! Unfortunately, they do wonders for exfoliating, dead skin cells, but not acne. In fact they irritate the acne even further • Be sure to cleanse your face after rigorous exercise. You don’t want all that sweat and those germs drying on your face.

es the Band (KTB) is as much a staple to Trinidad and Tobago’s musical landscape as anyone at the moment. The A-List talents have made significant strides in moving from cover band to true game changers in their decade as a unit. Their unique Pop/soca blend has been adopted by many, but it is clear there will never be another KTB. We caught up with them for a chit chat on the decade gone. ET&T: What was the game plan when you started and how much of it has been achieved? KES: The game plan initially was to find our own space and our own sound and to just contribute to the musical landscape. Before we were more or less a cover band, but we realized that in order to get our own original music out we would need a more hands on approach. Also, it provided piece of mind and the ability to explore ourselves musically. I think we definitely contributed to the landscape. We changed the vibes in certain areas and initiated certain movements and now we’re known for a sound. After ten years people can say “Hey! That’s Kes.” Even if a song is not ours they would say it sounds like Kes the Band so they can identify our particular sound. That along with traveling and making the world a smaller place is part of why we started. Now, we’re part of yet another era for Trinbagonian music – which is being on the international front. ET&T: Any regrets or things you would have done differently during those ten years? KES: I don’t think we have any regrets. I think we’ve learnt a lot. Ten years brings maturity as well. While things may have gotten us frustrated at times, these things were all necessary. Sometimes we can get ahead of ourselves, but we learned that every step was

bigger and better and we have opposing views, but there’s still a common goal. So who’s right or wrong in the end normally doesn’t matter. We stop stressing the small things. In addition I think it works because it’s three brothers. I can understand if it were seven individuals but we have a core that understands each other and even if it boils over its still family at the end of the day.

preparing us for the next step. We view situations as adventures or challenges. So far nothing has overwhelmed us. For instance the success of 2011… I don’t think we would have been able to handle it if we received it instantly. The years prior to that prepared us to be able to deal with the worldwide status of Kes the Band from that point onwards. ET&T:

usually face internal turmoil that threatens to derail what you have put together? KES: Like brothers arguing there’s the usual cuss out or whatever and then next minute we’re cool. I think we always had that level of focus to overcome these things when the pressure is on. Most of the time when we argue it’s because we’re trying to get the product to something

ET&T: What is the best quality you have garnered during your journey? Kees: Patience. Many times we think so far ahead of our industry and where we are currently at, but we realize that hen it is time to get something it will happen. It’s only when you finally get what you were searching for that you realize it couldn’t have come any earlier or we may not have been able to handle it. We have to keep telling ourselves that. Everything didn’t happen for us instantly. It was a slow process. We didn’t get a Lamborghini off the bat. We started with a B11 and moved to a B12, then a Corolla and so on.

BOI JOOCIE ET&T TRINI UK ROAD MARCH KING TALKS MUSIC AND MORE!!

SEAT

5 year old Arima born soca star Trini Boi Joocie has been a staple on the UK music scene for the last five years, making serious inroads when it comes to making soca globally renown. Among his many accolades are Best Music Video and Best Song of the Year 2012 at the UK Soca Music Awards; Best Soca Artist for the Year 2013 at the same awards show as well as UK Power & Groovy Soca Monarch 2013, and Notting Hill Carnival Road March King 2014. In addition, Joocie was a finalist at Open Mic UK 2013 (Open Mic UK is a nationwide unsigned artist music competition which saw over 9,000 acts audition last year). Suffice it to say, Joocie is no slouch. He regularly visits schools in the UK spreading the genre to new audiences. He was in fact honoured for his contributions to West Indian culture and his accomplishments to date by the London Notting Hill Carnival Enterprise Trust. However, despite his success at flying the flag overseas, he is yet to truly make his musical mark in T&T. ET&T caught up with charismatic star for an interview. ET&T: Anyone who would have visited the UK for Notting Hill Carnival over the past few years would be familiar with you, but what are your plans and expectation in T&T? TBJ: To make myself relevant. I made it to the International Power Soca Monarch Semi’s last year and I am just trying to build on every little thing that I do here. I want to show people that I bring a lot to the industry. I am putting forward different themes and doing what I can to take the culture up. ET&T: Locals seldom take to new talent despite

their quality unless they reach stratospheric levels of success globally. How do you find the reception is at the moment? TBJ: It is true, but everything takes time. It’s a process and right now people are getting more familiar with me every day. Thank God for interviews. This year I’ve done so many and I have been able to build relationships with presenters and DJ’s. I made huge inroads and I have been to a lot of the stations where I was able to perform and give people a taste of Joocie. ET&T: Where do you see yourself five years from now? TBJ: I just want to continue to push boundaries in Europe and be a lot more recognized in Trinbago as well. ET&T: Thus far, what do you think has been your biggest achievement thus far? TBJ: I was invited by Jazz legend Courtney Pine to perform with the headline acts at the Love Supreme Festival along with Soul 2 Soul, De La Soul and Pine himself. Performing for over 40,000 white people who don’t really know

much about soca and getting them to move was unbelievable.

platform I am going to take Joocie and Soca further.

ET&T: You live in the UK, but sing authentic soca while a lot of the local artistes perform music with a strong EDM influence. As someone who knows both worlds, which one do you prefer? TBJ: That’s the cliché. All across Europe, in places like Sweden etcetera they really love real soca for what it is. The local artistes would have seen a couple people experience success with the EDM music and everyone else got caught up in it. I am influenced by a lot of House, Afro Beat music as well, but It is important to me that we do not lose our sound. We have a culture of our own.

ET&T: Who are your musical mentors? TBJ: I really love Shadow. I’m a big fan of Sparrow… the lyrical content is crazy. I’ve done work with Kernal Roberts and Bunji and I’ve learned so much from them… my boy Lyrikal as well. Oh and DJ Stephen has also aided me a lot. I’ve studied with Tunji in London and we’ve learnt a lot from each other.

ET&T: Plans to collaborate with any of the established artistes locally? TBJ: Well I’ve done work with a lot of the artistes here… Machel and more. Every now and again Bunji would hit me up online to tell me he likes what I’m doing. All of the artistes would be familiar with me from their visits to London to perform at Carnivals etcetera, but yeah, I don’t mind collaborating. Once I have the

ET&T: What else should our readers know about Trini Boi Joocie? TBJ: There are artistes doing it beyond the Caribbean Sea. Soca does not die at Carnival. I perform at 11-12 Carnivals and Festivals throughout the year and these are huge. What you hear for the three months or so is not a true reflection of what the culture is achieving. Everytime I perform I bring that Soca Monarch type of production forward. It’s a huge production at every show. Look out for a lot more from Trini Boi Joocie in future ET&T articles as he continues to fly the Red, White and Black high. Look for Trini Boi Joocie on Facebook for updates, new music and more!

WORKING OVERTIME T

he Fashion Police have been working assiduously during the festive period to engage culprits, make arrests and reform where possible. However, the job is still very difficult despite our extra efforts as Carnival sees offences occur on such a grand scale. In any event, we shall not be daunted. We will round up the bad guys by the hook or the crook.

Somebody’s grandpa decided to photobomb these two ladies in the worst way. Maybe he should have mooned us so we would know it was all in jest. However, his “urban” couture choice had us baffled. Dude, the time for costumes hasn’t arrived yet.

Why in God’s name are we working overtime dealing with issues such as “Powder pon neck”? Maybe the people in the Gaza don’t have access to our PSAs. We will continue to work hard to rid the world of this scourge. This young lady was made an example of for her recklessness.

GUNS GORE & MORE!! E

very now and again we want to get away from all of the sappy romance flicks and dreary dramas and just enjoy some all-out wild Hollywood violence. As sick as that may sound, here are two movies that may fill that void in us.

Everly Salma Hayek stars in an action/thriller centered on a woman who faces down assassins sent by her ex, a mob boss, while holed up in her apartment. It is a bit of actionpacked B-movie brilliance. The Joe Lynch directed film was written by Yale Hannon. It Follows This film has been heralded by early viewers as one of the scariest horror movies in recent time. After a strange sexual encounter, a teenager finds herself haunted by nightmarish visions and the inescapable sense that something is after her. iency. While he has been singing since his early teens he truly began his ascendency in 2012 after a strong performance at Reggae Sumfest. In 2013, his tracks "Smile Jamaica" and "Here Comes Trouble" catapulted him to new heights of fame and he has since been one of the region’s most consistent entertainers with a string of charting releases.
